I might forget or get a few details wrong (you can probably Google and find things out easy): Harold was supposedly a friend of Ariel's who had went to Ursula at some earlier time before the movie. I can't remember what he went for, but regardless he obviously didn't meet the requirements Ursula had for him (or she sabotaged him, which she probably does with all her deals) and is a polyp in her garden when Ariel goes to Ursula. He was supposedly transformed back into himself at the end with the other polyps, before they got to the movie the way it is now. I can see he why he was cut, but it would've been nice to have a young merman character in the original film.UmbrellaFish wrote: Care to expand? I've never heard of Harold, I first assumed he was some early progenitor of Urchin from the TV series but that seems to not be the case.

Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
... Sorry to go off-topic, but I have to argue in defense of Louis's role in his movie. If you pay attention, he's more than just comic relief to the film. Louis does help Tiana and Naveen find Mama Odie (despite getting them lost) AND hitching a ride back to New Orleans. And despite getting a shot at his dream of playing jazz with the big boys, he sacrificed all that to help his pals when he noticed they were in trouble.Disney's Divinity wrote:Harold actually reminds me of the plot they had in mind for Louis in The Princess and the Frog; although I'm glad Harold was cut instead of kept solely as comic relief with the interesting plot excised, like in Louis' case.
Oh, and he even helped Tiana get her dream goal by scaring the Fenners out of their pants.
Beg pardon, it just really irritates me when people pass Louis off as just a comic relief.

That would be the first time that they carry over a "Disney Channel star" music video!
I'm very glad to see that!

Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
But.... Didn't Pat herself make mention of recording something for the 3D version of The Little Mermaid next year involving Ursula, Flotsam and Jetsam at a movie house or something and having the patrons sign a contract like she had Ariel did?The new deleted scene "Harold The Merman" is very short at just a few minutes, but includes the newly recorded audio with Pat Caroll reprising the voice of Ursula. So that's that mystery solved.
Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
Yes, she did indeed. Some guys here said it sounded like a promo for something, rather than something actually connected to the movie. Maybe this is something additional? How does he know Pat Carroll came back to record dialogue for it, could it not be from the original time of recording?
Jolly lovely that the the reviewer likes the picture so much, and is so similar to the original cell set up .

Good-looking blu-ray, but I wish the lineart was better resolved. It looks a touch soft.

One of the things Pat said at her convention appearance was that she recorded new dialogue for a deleted scene that was intended to be in the 1989 release, so this makes perfect sense as to what she was talking about.atlanticaunderthesea wrote:How does he know Pat Carroll came back to record dialogue for it, could it not be from the original time of recording?

Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
She did record a bit with Ursula talking to the blu-ray viewers about making a deal with their ipads, but that is something else...Most likely Disney Intermission or a menu feature. She also mentioned the deleted scene being rerecorded (though she was under the impression it was being put back in the movie)
Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
Ah okDancingCrab, that could be where I have gotten confused then. I wonder if it is a fully done scene ? I guess Pat must be under the impression that it was, if she thought it was going back into the movie.
I wonder if Jodi came back for any voicework ?

The stills look gorgeous. I like that the scenes have that darkness to them; the Platinum felt ultra-bright (though not as bad as Cinderella/B&tB, of course). The picture of the castle, the title, and the Ursula pictures especially have made me more excited. And I'm glad the feature about Harold will have some Pat Carroll voice work.

Not sure how I feel about this one. I prefer the standard one, but it's cool they are doing original art elsewhere.

Some 7 year old made this on DeviantArt right? Not an actual designer?
