Re: Disney Animation on Blu-ray in 2013
Judging from comparisons... Robin Hood has been scrubbed from all grain but I'd say it looks pretty good for a less high-profiled Disney Classic... I'm still shocked how dreadful The Sword in The Stone looks though...

Thank you for the comparisons
. Much like The Aristocats; Robin Hood and Oliver & Company look great for titles that aren't platinum/diamond status. The only problem I have with these releases is that they've been cropped too much, Robin Hood and The Sword in the Stone especially

Thanks for the screen shots Lnds500. I'll be upgrading Oliver & Company, but sticking with my DVDs of SitS and Gold Classic Collection Robin Hood. Even though the DVDs have a little bit cropped on the sides, it's nothing compared to how much visual is lost on the widescreen versions.
Re: Disney Animation on Blu-ray in 2013
I've never owned Sword in the Stone or Robin Hood....so I don't care what they look like.
(I HAVE seen them though.)

And that's the start
He follows his dream
With mind and heart
And when it becomes a reality
It's a dream come true
For you and me!

Re: Disney Animation on Blu-ray in 2013
I'm really pleased with how Oliver and Company turned out. Considering how poor the DVD's quality was, I wasn't expecting much, but I can't imagine it looking much better without severe tampering. Robin Hood is also good, though not on par with Dalmatians or Winnie the Pooh (the "Diamond" quality xerox restorations).
Sword in the Stone, though, is a major disapointment. The backgrounds don't even look like they're painted with brushes anymore, and while the characters retain their line art the image has a Photoshop sharpness quality to it.

Re: Disney Animation on Blu-ray in 2013
What the HELL is going on with Sword in the Stone!? Oliver, Sword and Robin all have a similar weird filter-y Photosop quality to them but Sword is specifically terrible. I get Disney wanting to minimize brush strokes and the scratchy animation style.. but is that the only way they can do it?

Yeah that is bad. It's part of the featured title at Disney Movie Club with Robin Hood and it's the final 3D Card. Figures they bundle it with Sword in the Stone, I wonder why
I'll get the featured title and maybe by some amazing miracle they'll offer a replacement though my hopes on that aren't that high

I know I should ask this in the other forum but I guess anyone could answer here as well.
I´m in Spain and bought the movie today.
As you know, in Spain it wasn´t labeled as Diamond and and even got released earlier.
And, although restored is not the same version as US.
For once, the extras aren´t the same. We have: The Making Of: You Can Fly, In Walt´s words why I made Peter Pan, Tinker Bell: A Fairy´s tale, The Peter Pan that almost was, deleted song: the pirate song, Nerver Land: the lost song, sing along, music video with Page O´Hara and "music video" The Second Star to the Right by T-Squad (not only do they destroy the song but also you can´t count something that lasts seconds as a music video.
But, the one true thing missing is the Disney View. And I miss that.
So, why make 2 versions of the same movie?
Also, just checked 101 Dalmatians. Disney View wasn´t included either. I wonder if when it is released in the US will include it.

Re: Disney Animation on Blu-ray in 2013
I´m glad I included the extras because I didn´t mention it was Peter Pan
.
So, when I went to the Disney Store to buy it the cashier told me it was discontinued.
That took me by surprise since, as said, the movie wasn´t labeled Diamond and it is not the same edition anyways. So, why would it be going to the Vault?
So, one of three things:
1. She´s right.
2. She´s wrong thinking this release counts as Diamond.
3. She had NO IDEA and was actually thinking when the movie was first released on DVD as Platinum.

I checked with TNBC page on Disney, and I think I can confirm the 20th AE is indeed a repackage of the 2008 CE:

At least they're acknowledging the film's 20th anniversary. That counts for something.

They never know anything... (at least the Spanish ones)

I slightly interrupt this topic for an important announcement regarding on Ye Olden Days on the Robin Hood 40th Anniversary Blu-ray; the original United Artists titles for the short (which is in HD) have been restored and intact!!!:

Very happy with Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. The picture is beautiful. As far as the widescreen presentation, I suspect the original shorts were animated with a theatrical framing in mind because I'm not finding the image feeling cramped or awkward.
Correction. Comparing to the previous full-screen presentations, there's actually more info on the sides rather than loosing anything on the top and bottom. XD

BTW, the bottom pic is my portable blu-ray player on the bottom showing the widescreen image vs the full frame on the sd tv behind it.zackisthewalrus wrote:Do you have pics of the packaging?ianwahlers wrote:Very happy with Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.
