It's nice that at least a few people will be able to get Gargoyles and Talespin through a club, but it still does me no good since I'm not going to spend hundreds of bucks on movies I don't really want just to get a couple that I do want. The ebay prices look pretty high right now. I wish these would have been made available through the Disney Generation program at the very least, so everybody would have a shot at them.

Apparently The Disney Generations Collection was called off which is a shame since the DVD Mod on demand would be a perfect thing to use for these titles.

I just bought TaleSpin volume 3 and Goof Troop volumes 1 & 2 on eBay for about $70 for all 3 sets. I'd rather do it that way instead of joining the club...I hate clubs...but that's another story in itself.

I'll probably pick up Gargoyles s2v2 later this month.

I can't wait for the next wave announcement. Hopefully it'll be DuckTales volume 4 or Gummi Bears volume 2!

I don't necessarily disagree with you. When I was told about these releases by my old contact, I brought this very issue up and was never given a straight answer back. Just that this is how the powers that be are willing to finish releasing these titles.

However, that said, joining the DMC isn't THAT bad. Are there no mainstream Disney films that you don't own yet that you'd like to? Any up-coming? You could easily fill a DMC commitment with titles like that and then gain access to the Disney Afternoon titles. And yes, I do believe there will be more coming to make it worth it. It doesn't cost "hundreds" of dollars to join the DMC, and only gets to that point depending on how many films you buy from them in total. To join and fulfill the basic commitment is easily under $100, if not less. Buying these titles on eBay by the way does nothing for helping to get more Disney Afternoon titles released as well as it feeds into the pockets of greedy second hand sellers.

As for the Generations Collection, sadly it's dead. I brought up the idea to my contact (who's main job WAS the Generations Collection) about releasing tv shows via DVD-on-Demand. For a moment, right before the last wave of GC titles a year ago, I thought it might happen. Then suddenly (still not sure why) it died off. The explanation I got was that the powers that be changed their minds.

I for one firmly am of the believe that to get serious unreleased Disney titles on DVD, Disney NEEDS to make a huge come back with a DVD-on-Demand program that feels closer to the Warner Archive Collection. For whatever reason, they don't seem to care about the idea and over at Open Vault Disney, I've heard far more Disney fans say they don't like the idea than ones that do and are willing to back me on it. This is one of those moment frankly that I don't feel most Disney fans understand the full complexities of the Home Entertainment market place or exactly where Disney Home Entertainment's head is in this game.

My feeling is that at least major Disney tv Animated shows should get pressed DVD releases (even if it is just from the DMC), but that everything else, old Disney Channel shows, lesser Disney tv Animation, unreleased Walt-era titles, would be PERFECT for DVD-on-Demand.

I just purchased the Goof Troop and Talespin volumes off eBay for $50. I used to be a member of the DMC but cancelled the membership about 4 mos ago. I had been a member since 2007, and met the commitment really early on, but after awhile the deals weren't that great compared to Amazon or brick and mortar stores the week of release. I would have stuck w/them had the exclusives been better and the Disney Afternoon relaunch come sooner.

Woah! People are spending a lot of money to get some of these sets. I am surprised to read that.

Now, I know that Walmart is a shady corporation with questionable treatment of its employees -- but it is truly the only brick & mortar store within 40 minutes of me with movies. The local Kmart is clearing out all of its DVDs and plans to stop selling them --- and besides for that, I go to Goodwill to find DVDs.

So Walmart is really my only choice and they carry a shat ton near me.

The Walmart near me has many of the Disney Afternoon sets:

Darkwing Duck vols 1 & 2
Talespin vols. 1 & 2
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers vols. 1 & 2
DuckTales vols 1. 2, & 3

... all of these sets sell for $9.96 a piece

Goof Troop (the 3-episode volume 1)
Quack Pack (the 3 episode volume 1)

... these two sets are $4.96 each

So I was able to build my Disney Afternoon DVD collection easily and inexpensively. Best of all, buying these from Walmart rather than second-hand at ebay or Amazon means Disney will know that new copies of these DVDs are still selling so there is interest in them!

Thanks for the link to the Disney Store. Unfortunately they didn't have the two Goof Troop sets but I was able to pick them up off of Ebay for $38 tonight. I'm also sad they don't have either of the Weekenders sets or Doug's Big Movie so I still need to find those somewhere. I'm still planning on picking up TaleSpin vol. 3 and debating Gargoyles.

I've never seen an episode of Gargoyles. Is it worth picking up and what should I expect to pay for Season 1 and the first part of season 2?

I'm a "Gargoyles" fan, so I'll try not to be biased.

"Gargoyles" is very different from any of the other Disney Afternoon shows-- in fact, it's very different from anything in the Disney canon. It's a mashup of police drama, science fiction, action, and fantasy genres into one show. It's not particularly comedic. That said, I would recommend it to anyone, it's an incredible show. I think it's something you can enjoy as an adult without nostalgia. It's highly mature and very literate, more so than any modern action blockbuster. But it's very different from "TailSpin," "Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers," "Duck Tales," etc.

I would recommend watching at least an episode of the show on Disney's official YouTube channel (username: disneyshows) where they have all the episodes of "Gargoyles." I say start at the beginning with "Awakening, Part One," and if you like that, maybe finish out all parts of "Awakening" (there are five). If you like it then, you'll know.

And last I checked on Amazon you can buy Season 1 and Season 2, Vol. 1 for just under twenty dollars. The MSRP is only $23.99, so should you decide to make the purchase, you should be able to pick it up somewhere without breaking the bank.
