Mickey's Christmas Carol is too short to be released as a standalone feature. They should have included The Prince and the Pauper or The Small One as well.
Here are larger versions of the covers.

Re: Mickey's Christmas Carol/A Very Merry Pooh Year Blu-ray
I can see The Small One being included, as it's been paired up with Mickey Christmas Carol on two compilation DVDs in R1 ("Classic Cartoon Favorites" and "Animation Collection"). Since The Prince and the Pauper is set during winter, that could be enough to consider it holiday-themed. Altogether, the three shorts would run 76 minutes, leaving about 20 minutes for classic cartoons. I predict Disney will choose "The Night Before Christmas," "Toy Tinkers," and "Pluto's Christmas Tree."
If The Prince and the Pauper isn't included, I could see "Mickey's Orphans," "Santa's Workshop," and "Mickey's Good Deed" taking its place. Those three, and the earlier three, are holiday-themed, and with The Small One would add up to nearly 70 minutes, bringing the total running time up to the listed 95 minutes (Mickey's Christmas Carol + Bonus Shorts).
Granted, we don't really know what the bonus shorts will be, so I made a list, based on what shorts were featured in Classic Cartoon Favorites' "Holiday Celebration with Mickey & Pals" and "Classic Holiday Stories," along with Animation Collection's Mickey's Christmas Carol, as well as UD's article. I bolded my predictions.
*Mickey Mouse: "Mickey's Orphans" (7:08, 1931)
*Silly Symphonies: "Santa's Workshop" (6:38, 1932)
*Mickey Mouse: "Mickey's Good Deed" (7:31, 1932)
*Silly Symphonies: "The Night Before Christmas" (8:28, 1933)
*Silly Symphonies: "Peculiar Penguins" (9:22, 1934)
*Mickey Mouse: "On Ice" (7:44, 1935)
*Mickey Mouse: "Alpine Climbers" (9:09, 1936)
*Mickey Mouse: "The Hockey Champ" (7:08, 1939)
*Goofy: "The Art of Skiing" (7:32, 1941)
*Mickey Mouse: "Lend a Paw" (8:07, 1941)
*Donald Duck: "Donald's Snow Fight" (6:55, 1942)
*Donald Duck: "The Clock Watcher" (7:32, 1945)
*Pluto: "Rescue Dog" (6:48, 1947)
*Melody Time: "Once Upon a Wintertime" (8:02, 1948 )
*Donald Duck: "Toy Tinkers" (7:37, 1949)
*Donald Duck: "Winter Storage" (6:36, 1949)
*Donald Duck: "Corn Chips" (6:55, 1951)
*Mickey Mouse: "Pluto's Christmas Tree" (6:53, 1952)
*Mini-Classic: The Small One (25:25, 1978 )
*Mini-Classic: The Prince and the Pauper (25:24, 1990)
In addition, I hope the 1983 making-of special (24:14) is included.

Re: Mickey's Christmas Carol/A Very Merry Pooh Year Blu-ray
Scaps - I'm automatically assuming:
"The Art of Skiing"
"Donald's Snow Fight"
"Pluto's Christmas Tree"
But that's based on one specific television airing I'd taped of Mickey's Christmas Carol, probably from around 1986. I'll always associate all these cartoons together and I'd be disappointed to see any of them not included. But of course, I'd love to see more additions!
I don't think I ever even knew about the making of special? Would really love to see that included but given Disney's track record lately, I'm not really counting on it. Off I go to check out youtube . . .

This is what bonus shorts I'm expecting:
-Pluto's Christmas Tree
-Donald's Snow Fight (a must for me)
I wouldn't be surprised though if the bonus shorts are the ones from the overseas Donald's Christmas Favorites Blu-ray.

The only thing I could find online is the segment openings.

I still don't know if I have my old VHS, the box of tapes is stashed away somewhere (and me without a VCR, lol). The credits are better than nothing.

I'm hoping they keep it in its original theatrical aspect ratio. I'd love to see several bonus features added including the making of television special mentioned above, but also the ad campaign. Just the trailer evokes warmth and nostalgia. And why not sit Burny Mattinson down for an interview or audio commentary. He actually knew Walt Disney, you know, and there's only a few of those people left.

Re: Mickey's Christmas Carol/A Very Merry Pooh Year Blu-ray
I'll definitely be adding both to my collection. Mickey's Christmas Carol is my personal favorite Christmas Carol adaptation and instantly transports me back to when I was three years old. The current release of the short on DVD runs 64 minutes and includes it, The Small One, Pluto's Christmas Tree, and Santa's Workshop. I'm wondering if they threw in the "making of" TV special as part of the running time to make the disc look more robust. If so, that means there's only room for one additional short, and I'd be willing to bet it's Toy Tinkers.
A Very Pooh Year is an interesting one because half of it's the Winnie the Pooh and Christmas, Too TV special from 1991, and the other half of it's a direct-to-video story from 2002 (Happy Pooh Year). I'm sure the latter half will look great, but I'm curious to see how they handle the first half since The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh series has yet to be seen in HD (the HD broadcasts of it are just upconversions).

As much as I like Mickeys Xmas carol, Im surprised how many releases this movie is getting, while some of the full length classics barely got a decent one (hercules!).
Oh well... Hope the special features for this one are good

I prefer Disney complete their catalogue before resorting to short films and such. Saludos Amigos through Ichabod and Mr. Toad deserve decent Blu-ray releases and I will be incredibly disappointed if they do not get them.

Hercules was at least still on the shelves. Haven't really seen a proper release of Mickey's myself.Marce82 wrote:As much as I like Mickeys Xmas carol, Im surprised how many releases this movie is getting, while some of the full length classics barely got a decent one (hercules!).

Are you joking?
Mickeys' xmas had two dvd releases: in the treasures line (w great speacial features!) and then as a standalone dvd a couple of yrs ago.
Hercules had ONE dvd release in 2002 (a rehash of the limited issue), with a poor transfer and almost no special features...

Useless bit or trivia here, Siskel and Ebert both gave Mickey's Christmas Carol a thumbs DOWN. Why? Because they got coal in their stockings.
(but seriously, they did. Thought it was too litteral an adaption).

It's June right now, Summer just got started and- wait a minute, what's all these Christmas Blu-ray's announced? ... It's not even July, Disney!
Anyway, mainly getting the Mickey Christmas Carol Blu-ray release. One wonders what the others shorts included would be... Maybe "The Small One"? (here's hoping!)

Considering I once saw the Hallmark Store selling Christmas ornaments in July, it's come to the point where I don't bat an eye about Christmas products being announced and sold this early in the year.disneyftw1 wrote:It's June right now, Summer just got started and- wait a minute, what's all these Christmas Blu-ray's announced? ... Oh Lord, then SitS wasn't a mistake. They know what they're doing, and they continue to do it.
God knows what the 1940s package features are going to look like on Blu-ray by the time they get here. I think I'd rather they just snub them outright than spoil them.

I just hope this isn't what Disney restoration is heading to. If it is, then something has to be done.
