Visually, will they keep this in line with the Classic, or put a different spin on it? Also, is it a straight up adaption of the Disney film, or is it just Disney doing a Cinderella live action ?

You know, I don't believe in the recent Disney live remakes, but this actually sounds very interesting with a promising cast. Looking forward to it. :)

Helena Bonham Carter Cast in Disney’s Cinderella

Walt Disney Studios has announced that Helena Bonham Carter has been cast as the fairy godmother in Disney’s upcoming live-action feature Cinderella, directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh. Previously announced casting includes Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother, Lily James in the title role and Richard Madden as the prince.

Woah, whaaaaaat? Now, I can see this working if they're going for a off-kilter type of fairy godmother, one that's frumpy and not all together there. I can see that working well. What really shocks me about this is that Kenneth Branagh's Carter's ex-husband. I never in a million years thought they'd work together again. I wonder if it was Disney that pushed for this since they've used her in Alice in Wonderland and The Lone Ranger. I was rooting for Emma Thompson in the role, but I'm very curious to see how this pans out.

Fabulous casting !! I wonder if it will be awkward for her to work with her ex ??

So fabulous that Disney are loving her at the moment!

What an interesting casting choice! I love how they took Blanchette and HBC and cast them in opposite roles that they would usually play. This could turn out really well!

I agree really awesome! I love Cate and Helena! Can't wait to see them in action. A really awesome cast. I am much more excited for this than Maleficent haha.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this yet!:

From Broadway World:
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bonham will be filling a larger role than in previous interpretations. The godmother will be "disguised as an old beggar who watches over Cinderella before revealing herself as the magical being she truly is."
That means she'll be like the one in Broadway's Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella...I wish it was more original but I don't mind the similarity.

I like Cinderella adaptations better when she knows her fairy godmother, so I'm glad to hear that.

However, I'm just not crazy about everything else I've been hearing. I think Cinderella works best when kept simple. But of course I'm a sucker for any Cinderella adaptation, anyway.

This is going to be an awesome movie! Sounds like Ever After, but with magic, which I aint mad at! Although, I'm kinda getting tired of the whole Beggar Woman/Fairy Godmother thing. This is probably the 5th Cinderella adaptation that has used this idea. I'm excited nonetheless. Cinderella's childhood and how she became a servant has always interested me. Disney only spent 2 minutes on it, Ever After spent 15 minutes, but it seems this movie will delve deeper into it.

By the way, I wonder what century this movie will take place in? I just came back from London, and it is such a modern city that I don't know how they will make it look like it takes place "once upon a time."

I don't think they would film it directly in London; period films rarely get filmed right in the heart of London. I think they will probably go to the countryside and Pinewood studios. Winchester also gets used quite a lot. (The old capital of England).

I heard that people go to London to film a lot because its cheaper and they have big sound stages.

I don't think it is cheaper, but we are known for our massive and convenient sound stages.

And I still think it might be a little awkward Helena being in a Branagh movie....

Maybe they're adults and have no resentment toward each other? Who says they aren't capable of working together?

I'm excited about HBC's casting... it will be interesting to see her in this role, instead of her recent stream of type-casting.

I don't know, this is still typecasting to me. She's done the loving, caring, sweet woman act before in Sweeney Todd and The King's Speech. I expect no surprises out of her performance to be honest.
