Nostalgia Critic vs Nostalgia Chick

Post by DisneyFan09 »

Which reviews do you prefer? The one’s of Nostalgia Chick or the one’s of Nostalgia Critic?

Personally I prefer Nostalgia Chick. Her reviews are a nice balance of humor, factuality and impartiality. She's good at conveying her points in an infomative and entertaining way. Although she doesn’t always have her fact straight and she’s often constantly stating her hatred for certain movies in a repetive manner, I think her reviews are enjoyable.

Doug’s reviews can be entertaining, but at times he can be too energetic and obnoxious and his humor is quite juvenile. Not to mention that he conveys his points in a not particularly nuanced nor interesting way and doesn't even bother to look if his facts are accurate or not. So therefore, Lindsay is my winner (if you’ll exclude the fact that she’s hotter than Doug, lol).

The Nostalgia Chick wins for me. I think that she has the benefit of actually having a background in film studies, which gives her reviews a certain edge other than just that of a admirer of film and TV. Equally, she's probably not as bombastic and random as the Nostalgia Critic. Plus, who doesn't love Nella? :D

I don't. I can't stand her friends, personally.

I think Doug is much funnier, while Lindsay is considerably more articulate, which makes her more serious videos stronger than Doug's.

I prefer The Nostalgia Critic. I crack up at his reviews.

His latest review of Jurassic Park was hilarious. His best one since he came back

Personally, I find that Doug's voice can be quite grating at times. He sort of reminds of Gilbert Gottfried in that respect, there's times where he sounds fine, but if he gets loud, then out comes the mute button.

Nostalgia Chick easily. Her fifty shades of green project is hilarious.

Doug is a one trick pony.

This aired on 20/20 last night. It actually features Doug Walker and his previous job

While Doug's screaming can get irritating at times, I still enjoy watching his videos.

I haven't seen many of Nostalgia Chick's videos to make a comment on her (what happened to her anyway?).

To be honest, I think both are equally flawed and equally good. What do I mean by this? Well, both focus on one thing: analyzing movies and TV shows. Chick did start out as the female equivalent of Critic, but later evolved into what she is today, and now with Critic not just being all about the nostalgia, they are almost on the same level.

The Chick's main strenght is that with her background in film, her film reviews and analysis tends to be deeper and more rooted, often mentioning why the thing works or doesn't work. Doug's reviews, at times, feel like the reviews you would read on Amazon's consumer reviews page due to constant redudancy (the plot is great, the characters are great, the settings are great) and at times two sets of mentality (OMG THIS IS FANTASTIC, or "Nyeeeeehhhh I'm not sure"). That being said, he at times makes some really good points and some solid analytical points of view, especially in his editorials where he is developing an idea rather than being funny.

The Chick's flaw, on the other hand, is when she tries to force humor into her reviews with sketches starring her friends. She doesn't seem to have the silly comedic nature Critic has, so when she tries to do a whole skit with her friends, it comes off as being awkward and annoying. Her whole "Dark Nella" saga was pitiful and too long. Then there's the fact that she tends to generalize people and ideas in her reviews. I get that her persona is that of a sardonic film critic, but at times her generalizations are so broad it ruins a really great analysis (like the whole gay themes in Return of the King thing).

So yeah, Chick is the better film critic, while Critic is the better comedic critic, though both are flawed in their execution. It depends on personal preferences.

Lindsay, her The Lorax video is the best thing on the site. But I do miss when she actually used to review the movie a little, not just pull out all the film history and social theory. I was super excited for her Disney & the gay community video, but was underwhelming because they were just re-hashing basic theory, they didn't really add their person take on it.

Doug's Nostalgia Critic videos are normally great too though, but the angry bits do nothing for me though, so... I like stuff like when he was making fun of the dance in from that Little Nemo movie? The first time I saw that I laughed for ten minutes.

I consider Lindsay to be funny as well and she's better at conveying humor than Doug is. However, I do agree that her friends are annoying. I liked Nella at first, but now I consider both her and the redhead chick to be annyoing. And what's the thing with Todd? He's just bland and boring.

Todd's great! If anything, I think he contains both Doug's ease at irreverent humor and Lindsay's analytical side. Mostly for pop songs, but this works very well for what he takes.

But yeah, he and Lindsay are dating.

Pap64 and Avaitor pretty much sum my answer correctly, especially pap's on Nella and Lindsay's friends. God, they're fucking annoying. But If I had to choose, i'd pick Cinema Snob. I just like watching his reviews and the type of movies he does/chooses.

Also, Lindsay look way too much like my older sister that it's kinda creepy and watching her review make me think i'm watching my sister on the internet....

....yeah......

I like both about equally. I watch Critic for entertainment, and Chick for intellectual stimulation.
