Which Companies should Disney purchase next?

Post by danielshooley »

Hi everyone.

As many of you are aware, over the last decade, Disney has bought at least 4 Major Motion Picture companies, including The Muppets (February 2004), Pixar (2006), Marvel Comics (August 2009), and LucasFilm (October 2012).

With this in mind, I have a partial list of companies I believe should be bought by Disney in the coming years and decades, and here they are.

1. The Jim Henson Company
2. Columbia Pictures
3. MGM
4. Warner Bros. Pictures

I say MGM. They would need to though buy Time Warner to get the rights to MGM's pre-1986 films.

Columbia is owned by Sony so I'm not sure if that would even be possible. Besides, I think Sony has done rather well with the Columbia back catalog. It's thanks to them we have the complete Three Stooges shorts collection on DVD.

Jim Henson Company seems like a given and I wouldn't doubt if eventually that one happened.

Doesn't 20th Century Fox already OWN MGM? :?

Though I would like to see Disney actually purchase MGM next, just for the sake of Disney having a legit excuse to distribute Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, a film that Dick Van Dyke said would out-Disney Disney. It's irony defined! Irony defined! :P

NO MORE. JUST NO ****ING MORE. I am not against anyone thinking of the idea, but honestly, I had enough of this... or at least, let there be a long break between each other.
Wait, MGM? ... I'm guessing some are thinking this because of the fact that at one point, before becoming "Disney's Hollywood Studios", it was Disney/MGM Studios. Yeah well, to actually own it as a means of distributing the films may become impossible. Plus, Fox's taking care of it nicely so far.

Here's another one: The Secret of Nimh. Under United Artists currently distributed by MGM. Made by the director that was a former Disney animator and left the studio in the late 70's to make his own films with his freedom. His films in the 80's untill Mermaid came out (which All Dogs, again by the same director, sadly didn't do as well as Disney's groundbreaking film) stole Disney's fame. If they actually buy it (which I highly doubt), that... would be the biggest irony in Disney history.

Nintendo's been dropping in value at a. steady rate, though I highly doubt they'd want to take on all that their business entails just to get their valuable IP.

Disney never will be buying out any Japanese company. I can guarantee you that. Especially a big name Japanese company like Nintendo.

Comcast! My, how the tables will have turned in the space of a decade... ;)

Anyway, I don't think Disney should simply buy stuff that they don't really need...

Good one. That would be hilarious. They should buy it just because they can.

I hope this trend is over, they control too much! But as long as Iger stays in charge, you never can say...

I don't know about that. It was just a year or two ago I was reading that Sony was considering selling off the film studio. Sony has more years then not been at the bottom of the barel each year of the major film studios. If Disney were to buy off one of the other studios, I'd say Sony would the best bet.

Besides, that would the most direct approach to getting Spider-Man back into the hands of Marvel! :D

I'd love to see them buy a hand-drawn animation company. I'd *really* love to see them get into hand drawn animation.

Did you not read my post? Disney is never going to buy out a Japanese company, especially a mega huge Japanese company. I just won't happen.

And Sony isn't a studio only company, you know. Can't buy a part of the company and not anything else. Either buy the whole company or you don't.

Nothing. They own pretty much everything a media company would want. The only department they are terrible at is the videogame department but they show no interest in that and they have no idea how to work it.

I could see them eventually taking the final step and buying Studio Ghibli. They already co-fund the films and distribute a majority of them.
