Alan Menken has written a song titled "Someone Wrote That Song" with lyrics by Craig Carnelia to combat illegal downloading of sheet music. The project was sponsored by The Dramatists Guild. For more information about this project go here and here.

Here's the music video for the song in question.

I actually ask for help. Two years ago, I found a music video on Youtube. It was a medley from Alan Menken and Hans Zimmer songs from The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King and Pocahontas. There was a link to the blog site of the user where you could download the complete medley. The medley was about 50-60 minutes long and it was a video with scenes from all those films. The music was instrumental only. You were able to download the full music video from that blog.

I moved in with my friend a few months ago, and I've lost the video. I can't find it anywhere at my computer. I don't remember the name of the user and I can't find the fragment anymore at Youtube.

So I was hoping that one of you guys know the video, or even someone has it. Because it really was amazing.

All help appreciated :)

On April 16, Harvey Fierstein said on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live that he's working on a new musical with Alan Menken and Jack Feldman!

I love Newsies. The fleshed out songs and score for Broadway were so much better than the movie. So why break up a winning team? This is great news.

There better be some professional registration of that. This is too awesome to only resurface in poor quality on YouTube.

I think what you're referring to (minus Pocahontas?) is this soundtrack of medleys "Magical Music of Disney" http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B000003D0K

I was able to find it not too long ago on a torrent! You might be able to as well :P

If they turn this into a copy of the film I'm gonna be disappointed. Esmeralda's death is essential to the story. A happy ending would be weird.

Les Mis works and so did Aida. Most musicals have unhappy endings. West Side Story, Sweeney Todd and Little Shop of Horrors come to mind. If they want to create something in line with the great Broadway musicals they shouldn't go for a cutesy family production.

If you are going against the story, that is one thing, but you definitely don't need to have an unhappy ending to have a successful musical, that's for sure.

There are many different types of musicals just as there are as many different types of stories to be told, and just because one story works in one medium, doesn't necessarily mean that other translations have to be exact duplicates.

Menken is working on a brand new stage musical where he'll be writing both the music and lyrics. Menken said in a recent interview that this marks the first time in 23 years he's writing lyrics for a musical. He didn't mention anything else about the project other than it's "style-driven".

He also mentioned that he's working on another stage musical with Glenn Slater which is going to be based on a book.

I'm hoping we'll get a cast recording released on CD! Disney did release a CD for the Paris version of The Lion King.

It can't be the "Erich Kunzel - The Magical Music of Disney: Lion King, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast" CD then, since it does not feature music from Pocahontas and because it's not instrumental music only but also features singing.

Alan Menken has received his first Emmy nomination for his song "More Or Less The Kind Of Thing You May Or May Not Possibly See On Broadway" from The Neighbours.
"There are two wolves and they are always fighting. One is darkness and despair. The other is light and hope. Which wolf wins? Whichever one you feed." - Casey Newton, Tomorrowland

Big congratulations to him, but am surprised that this is the first nomination for him !

Would love to see him win an Academy award again at some point ....
