Classic Disney shows at Midnight starting Wednesday!
I think Disney has pulled a "90's Are All That":
http://www.nickandmore.com/2013/04/16/d ... ay-nights/
"Disney Channel is pulling a surprising, and sudden, schedule change to Wednesday nights starting this week. For the next three weeks, Disney has scheduled three different classic original series to air at midnight (ET/PT).
This Wednesday night (April 17), a single episode of Even Stevens will air: “Influenza: The Musical”.
Next Wednesday (April 24) at midnight is two back-to-back episodes of Lizzie McGuire: “Between a Rock and a Bra Place” and “Gordo’s Bar Mitzvah”.
The following Wednesday (May 1) at midnight is two back-to-back showings of Kim Possible: “Emotion Sickness” and “Bonding”.
This will be the first time a regular Even Stevens episode (minus the DCOM) has aired on Disney Channel since 2007. Lizzie McGuire was last seen on April 7, 2010 (minus a few airings of the movie that summer). Regular Kim Possible episodes have been off U.S. airwaves since Disney Channel did the “classic purge” on June 30, 2010 (where almost all non-current series were dropped from their late-night line-up).
At this time, there is no indication for why these sudden additions were made. There is also nothing available to tell whether they will continue this Wednesday night feature or not. Just because a few episodes are airing doesn’t mean they’re all coming back to the regular line-up… but you never know. Maybe Disney is interested to see how well these will do at a later time? I guess we’ll find out sooner or later!"

Thats cool, I guess. These arent really what come to mind when I hear disney channel classics though. I thought you meant more along the lines of goof troop, talespin, duck tales, aladdin.
I wonder if this could have something to do with building back the audience that will eventually watch Girl Meets World? Maybe sister sister will show up too in the coming weeks?

Me, too.Flanger-Hanger wrote:When you said "classic Disney" I was thinking of Vault Disney stuff...not that.

You'd think they'd start showing re-runs of BMW on the channel. They already do on ABCFamily, so maybe that's why they don't.I wonder if this could have something to do with building back the audience that will eventually watch Girl Meets World? Maybe sister sister will show up too in the coming weeks?

This is a start. I say we tune in. We should show our support.
I would like them to turn it into a nighttime block like the "90s are all that". I don't expect the Mickey Mouse Club and such to be shown but if they're doing a 90s/early 2000s block I would like to see the likes of these as well:
The Famous Jett Jackson
So Weird
Bug Juice (would be great to show over the Summer)

I've thought for years that they should show older series at odd hours so they can at least continue to be exposed in some way and remain the public consciousness.
This is a start, and if it results in seasons 3 & 4 of KP finally getting a DVD release, I'm happy.

Shows like Kim Possible, Lizzie McGuire, and Even Stevens are 10 years old, but I see your point.carolinakid wrote:If THIS is what is known as "classic" Disney.....Jesus, take the wheel!
I wish they would bring back something like Vault Disney which aired at night hours with classic Disney material. Heck I remember seeing a letterbox version of Sleeping Beauty one time. Those were the days.....

I want to be hopeful and say that these are just baby steps towards a return to Vault Disney, possibly one that combines older Disney Channel programming with Disney Afternoon classics and some of the studio's earlier TV ventures, but like that'll ever happen.

While it would be nice to introduce this material to a younger generation, that is a very risky move by them. It would especially risky now that they established the channel for a completely different demographic. Choosing the shows that they did makes sense for them as it is less risky. I don't really know how they can re-introduce the much older material at this point unfortunately. How could we get material such as the Mickey Mouse Club serials and "Walt Disney Presents" specials to appeal to the viewers of Shake it Up, Good Luck Charlie, A.N.T Farm, etc.? If the older material were always in the line up as it was up to when the Vault Disney block ended, there wouldn't be an issue. We are going on 11 years this year that Vault Disney ended. Guess how old the largest demographic of Disney Channel viewers are? They had no exposure whatsoever to Vault Disney. It would be hard to bring it back as it was then onto the current Disney Channel.
Re: Classic Disney shows at Midnight starting Wednesday!
Well I don't see a problem with Disney airing some of these shows later at midnight. What kid wants to watch the same shows they can see all day in the day time again this late at night? If any kid is up, they'll want to watch something edgier like [adult swim] or whatever else they can.
What's the harm of Disney putting older shows on at night time? Nick and Cartoon Network don't air their usual shows on at this time, and they seem to do fine.

Those listed shows flourished after Disney Channel got rid of Vault Disney in 2002. They're hardly anything I'd consider "classics".

"OH COME ON, REALLY?!?!"

I have a feeling the Disney channel is in the process of a major revamp that expands the demographic. Girl Meets World being part of that. Gravity Falls is another one that has an older following. Tron would have been another one but that obviously didn't go as planned. Still, it shows their setting their sights above the typical Hannah Montana fare.
That said, I do agree, we probably wont be seeing anything older than a decade, but you never know. They could be toying with the idea. Their remaking the duck tales game afterall, they could tie that in some how.

Re: Classic Disney shows at Midnight starting Wednesday!
They already show DuckTales on Disney Jr. every night at midnight. I don't see why they cant air that kind of stuff between 12-5am, especially when they have no interest putting Vault Disney-ish programing on DVD like they used to.
And given the amount of back catalouge content, it would be comparatively cheap for Disney to make a seperate, extra-pay, Vault Disney-style channel that could air "Zoog Disney" (1997-2002) content after school on weekdays, 1983-1996 Disney Channel stuff during the day and "classic" stuff after 8 or 9pm.

Well I checked the Canadian schedule, so of course it may be different in the states.Disney's Divinity wrote:Do they? Must not be where I'm at, unfortunately.Flanger-Hanger wrote:They already show DuckTales on Disney Jr. every night at midnight.![]()

Re: Classic Disney shows at Midnight starting Wednesday!
Yeah, it must be a Canadian thing. If the American version of Disney Jr. had DuckTales on, the internet would've been ablaze by now.
