I don't like it

Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
I can't understand for the life of me why they continue putting out this horribly overly rendered, clipartish, off model artwork when they obviously have artists that can make incredible covers for these movies. It's almost painful to compare Brittany Lee's cover for that new book to the new DVD cover.
It's not the worst they've put out, by any means... but I definitely prefer the Platinum cover.

well its not Disney fault its GermanyScamander wrote:They put Triton right under the rating logo? Way to go, Disney! -.-

Oh its still their fault. I mean, if I were disney I would try to design cover arts around these kind of things. They knew full well about Germany's requirements. And different territories get different cover art all the time.Magic.Mirror wrote:well its not Disney fault its GermanyScamander wrote:They put Triton right under the rating logo? I think Germans are pretty used to the ugly stickers by now. I also think the current edition will make them so happy, they won't care about a stupid cover.Kyle wrote:Oh its still their fault. Nah, still hate the logo. Sure we'e used to it but we keep complaining, trust me. Nearly everone but Disney uses stickers or print the cover without this logo on the backside again. Too expensive for Disney.Lnds500 wrote:I think Germans are pretty used to the ugly stickers by now. I also think the current edition will make them so happy, they won't care about a stupid cover.

Of course. My comment was more of general nature

King Triton should have been in that space instead of the tiny space in the bottom left corner.Disney's Divinity wrote:Yes, I like the cover, even with the minor issues (I'd prefer a blue-ish background). My biggest gripe is still that they should put something the background to the left of Ariel at least. All that empty green looks bad to me.

I think it's empty space there because that's where the vertical title is going to be on the U.S. edition.

Oh, yeah. That didn't acquire to me when I made my other comment. So King Triton will be covered up almost as much by the vertical logo in U.S. as he is by the fat rating block in Germany. Poor guy.DancingCrab wrote:I think it's empty space there because that's where the vertical title is going to be on the U.S. edition.

Actually aside from Sebastian's size they really aren't that off-model, and I think the composition is great. A shaft of light coming down the center of the image with Ariel in its center, no floating heads.PatrickvD wrote:She's off model (horribly so actually) and Sebastian is as big as het entire upper body. Now I've seen the movie and I'm pretty sure he fits in Ariel's hands. Does that crab look like he fits in her hands?
Flounder is also off model. The entire image's composition is awkward and 'off'. Sorry, I'm just calling it the way it is.
Can you link me to a picture of the French Platinum cover?atlanticaunderthesea wrote:As I said in the other thread, it looks like a cross between Ariel's Beginning and the French Platinum cover.
Yea I know, wth.Disney's Divinity wrote:It still infuriates me that Ursula's earrings and makeup are continuously colored gold and green, respectively. I have no idea who fished that color scheme around Disney marketing, but they seriously suck. She'll be looking like that for the next 25 years on these things.

From the looks of it, they're talking about this cover:Disney Duster wrote:Can you link me to a picture of the French Platinum cover?atlanticaunderthesea wrote:As I said in the other thread, it looks like a cross between Ariel's Beginning and the French Platinum cover.

I could be wrong though, because they have two different versions listed on amazon FR from 06'. The other one is identical to the US version though.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is the one. I do like Ariel's pose in this, but I'm not loving the floating Ursula/Triton/Eric. I do like how it's not too crowded, like the US Platinum cover was.Disney_freak wrote:From the looks of it, they're talking about this cover:Disney Duster wrote: Can you link me to a picture of the French Platinum cover?

For one of the few times in life, we actually agree.Disney Duster wrote:Actually aside from Sebastian's size they really aren't that off-model, and I think the composition is great. @DancingCrab: You're probably right about the side-title thing. That'll help, I guess, even though I hate the side-title phase.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
Re: The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition - Fall 2013
Been meaning to post my response on the cover since I seen it last week, overall I quite like it though hopefully they will refine it over the coming months. If they touch up Ariel's face slightly and add Atlantica in the background it would be pretty perfect, looking forward to seeing it with the English title.
The UK edition had better come with a slipcover otherwise I will be really annoyed, I still haven't forgiven Disney UK for their treatment of Peter Pan and Aladdin (not to mention various other newly released titles) although I have to say I watched my new Aladdin BluRay last night and the PQ was stunning so I can't complain about the actual films themselves just Disney UK's presentation of them. I am ecstatic to finally add my favourite film of all time to my BluRay collection and I want it to get the best possible treatment it can.
I'm hoping the spine will be an nice aqua blue colour with a picture of Ariel at the top, obviously the UK edition will have the "Classic No 28" which I quite like because it really makes it feel like a collection but I honestly wish they were more uniform and that they used the US official canon! It is annoying enough that Dinosaur is replaced with The Wild but now they've decided to completely ignore Winnie the Pooh so when Wreck it Ralph gets it's UK DVD and BluRay release in June (which I am very excited about seeing as I never got the chance to see it in the cinema) it's going to have "Classic No 51" on the spine rather than "52", this is not doing any good for the OCD in me
Anyhow apologies for going off topic, it's been a long wait but it will be worth it in the end to finally get to see it in HD! I see Disney left giving their best princess the HD treatment till last

I love The Little Mermaid and Ariel

I actually think it looks worse now. Her face is more refined but she looks like Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
