Margaret Thatcher Has Died

Post by Dr Frankenollie »

All lives are unique, all are precious, and all should be universally regarded as such. But that doesn't stop me from being cheered up somewhat by this news. :P

Goodbye to the woman who was friends with Pinochet, Reagan and Saddam Hussein, the woman who fought against trade unions and the woman who called Mandela a terrorist.

Yeah, I have a hard time feeling too bad. I mean, I respect her as a woman who was in power, but a lot of her work can't be respected, imo. I know J.K. Rowling in particular did not like Thatcher because she cut benefits for single mothers, while she was still poor/unkown. (I believe the Ministry/Dolores Umbridge is thought by many to be an expression of Rowling's feelings of Thatcher, but it can be read more generally than that as well)

Margaret Thatcher is basically the female Ronald Reagen. The fact they're "BFF!!!" and were leaders in same era helps too.

I give credit to Ms. Thatcher for many things, one of the first women to have political power in the UK she fought tooth and nail when a woman's place was considered in the kitchen and doting on her husband/children's every need. I always thought she was stuck in her upper middle class (at least) lifestyle and had no knowledge of anything less. Very out of touch with reality. Did she try I think she did, but besides the upper classes she had nothing in common. She bravely fought Alzheimers for a long time and various health ailments, I was raised by my grandparents from day one and adopted by them at the age of 5 so I know all too well about the frailties that hit the elderly and I am glad that she is no longer suffering. I think she did the best she could. Was she perfect hardly, but she did the best she knew how.
