Internet Fraud - maybe DVD Pacific

Post by karlsen »

Have anybody here used the internett store DVD Pacific?

There are now newspaper articles in Norway and lots of forums in Scandinavia that are pointing out that DVD Pacific users have had illigal transactions to their creditcard.

There are users in Norway, Sweeden, Finland, Denmark and Australia that all have experienced this, and now there are reportings in England, Germany and America as well.

If you have bought DVDs from this store (or any other for that matter) I recomend you to check your bills for the last days and see if you are safe from this internett pirates.

Prince Ali - thank you very much for your borderline racist diatribe.
Unfortunately in your race to just to a conclusion you failed to do any research.

DVDPacific is operated and registered to Brad Searle of Coral Gables, Florida. Turns out it is Amerian ripping people off and not the Asians you seem to want to blame for just about everything.

I am not sure the name DVDPacific gives you a hint of wrong doing. After all the US and Canada border on the Pacific. Ocean Pacific is a north american company. I looked at the site itself and it looks professional. Not unlike many other North American retailers.

Thus, your diatribe seems to be totally unfounded.

DVD Pacific is as almost everybody knows an American retailer, and they do try to be serious. Because of the low rate on $ they are just about the cheapest place to get DVDs from right now.

The reason why I am writing "try to be serious" is because they realy do try, but they did not listen to me when I wrote to them (and several others did) to let them know that the customers CC info was not secure enough. The resoult has now been that someone has gotten a lot of CC info from them and have used it to get money easy.

So nobody is blaming DVD Pacific for stealing from them, but they have just stored info to bad in my oppinion.

Karlsen,

I think that is a very important warning and speaks volumes about their business practices and corporate culture. For instance, when A&B Sound's site was hacked and all the numbers were stolen they made a great effort to get in touch with everyone affected whether it by by email or telephone the very same day so their cards could be cancelled with no disputed charges. Mine was stolen although there were no charges on it.

The fact that they do not seem to care would be a huge warning for me for dealing with them.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hopefully this will help karlsen and the original point of this thread.

There are numerous forums that are showing the problems with DVD Pacific and frauldulent charges to credit cards. The biggest that I have seen so far is the following thread.

I'll leave the thread as is for now, since it would be fragmented and tough to follow after deciding what to delete. But please no more off-topic posts here. The topic of discussion is credit card fraud at the e-tailer DVD pacific, and NOT bootlegs from countries near the Pacific Ocean. Future off-topic posts here will be moved or deleted.

You are welcome for the link karlsen.

I remember something a while back on another forum where this was happening (I can't remember the store).

It was concluded that it came from pop-up ads that were just closed on the site.

There must have been a link through the store and pop-ups that if you just closed it, the system assumed you wanted it and registered you.

This may be along the same lines. I have never used DVD Pacific so I am not sure if they use pop-ups or not.

Nice thing this isn't going off topic

First of all, DVDPacific is a reliable online retailer, who's been in business for many years. They only sell authorized region 1 DVD's. They've been just as serious as any other online retailer, e.g. Amazon.

The thing that's been speculated, is that DVDPacific have been hacked, and that the hackers have gotten a hold of creditcard information. Not anything else. Not Chinatown rip-offs, and not the credibility of Michael Moore. I (and many others I know) have been buying from DVDPacific for years.

I've split the off-topic posts about Asia, bootleggers, Michael Moore, and John Kerry:

This thread is for discussing the DVDPacific issue.
