Has anyone but me noticed that they majorly screwed up with where The Wizard came from, as in the book and movie it explictily states that The Wizard came from Omaha, Nebraska.

I saw this today and I was quite disappointed! 'Alice in Wonderland' was so, so much better, thanks to its wonderful cast! The acting and the writing in 'Oz, the Great and Powerful' were just okay...

I finally got to see this in IMAX 3D tonight, I loved it! I kind of hope Disney does their own version, but in ways I'm worried they may mess it up. It'd be interesting how they explain how things work though.

My other big problem with the movie was the Wicked Witch's make up. I know she is supposed to be ugly, but damn, not like that. It was such a hardcore fail by the make-up artists. The prosthetics looked more ridiculous than scary, and somehow they took that tiny little actress and made her look like she gained about 50lbs... all in her face. Normally I can let bad make-up slide, but it was just too much of a distraction for me.

I thought her make-up was GREAT! It truly made her look SCARY!!!

“Oz the Great and Powerful” deals with the themes of believing and how powerful faith can be. The story handles the theme very well with clever writing and homages to the older film (keep in mind that this is a prequel to the actual story and not the 1939 classic film by MGM). Sam Raimi does a good job of directing the film. He mixes humor with the more semi-serious moments. There are moments of excitement that gets the blood going and legitimately scary moments that make you jump out your seat. However, the story mainly in the middle gets a bit confused on what it is about and what’s happening. Along with that, certain things feel a bit rushed particularly when Oz arrives in Oz.

The acting and characters for the most part are decent. Oz, James Franco, is pretty much the scene stealer as one would hope from a movie titled “Oz.” Franco brings a lot of charisma and charm to the character along with being relatable. He sometime goes a bit over the top, but when he puts on his big cheesy smile almost everything is forgiven. Mila Kunis is okay in the movie at best, but half way through she become not so good. Her character feels forced and any emotion she tries to convey comes off as trying too hard. There’s a flying monkey and little porcelain girl that bring a lot of the heart to the film. They’re incredibly likable and help show off some of the humanity in Oz.

I particularly like the visual effects. The backgrounds are well detailed and immerses the viewer into the world. There are some moments were you can tell it’s CGI and the character don’t blend well with the background, but they don’t appear very often. The musical score by Danny Elfman is effective, but not too memorable until the third act.

Overall, “Oz the Great and Powerful” isn’t great, but it is still pretty good. The special effects are great, but have some spotty moments, the score my Elfman is solid, and James Franco’s performance steals the show. However, there are some minor story issues in the first two acts and the acting by the rest of the cast, especially Mila Kunis, leaves more to be desired. The final act of the film is spectacular though and sums up everything great about the film incredibly well. I give it an incredibly high 3.5/5, acting could use some work, but Franco and the third act make this a really good experience.

I think her transformation where you saw nothing ... said everything, you know? Very well done on Disney's part there I think. And Rachel's reaction to it as well

Well, even though they did a great job with it, I was really hoping to see her transform. At least when the Queen in Snow White transformed you saw her hair and hands change.

I don't know if I'm 100% sure right, but I think when Evanora tried to kill Glinda she said "Say hello to daddy"...does that mean glinda is also sisters with evanora and theodora?

Yeah they're all sisters. It's just weird that they're always say, "My father" instead of "Our father"

It's never stated anywhere in any of the movies or books that the wicked witches are sisters with Glinda. You can take that interpretation, but I never saw any reason to.

This was one topic that confused me, I believe that they aren't though, because they talk in away that the dad is only Glinda's father.

I saw it twice and at no moment was it stated that Glinda and her father were in any way related to Theodora and Evanora.

In the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, There are two good witches, The Good Witch of The North, who welcomes Dorothy to Oz and The Glinda The Good Witch of The South who sends Dorothy back home. In the 1939 classic, MGM combined South and North together in to a single good witch which is Glinda The Good Witch of The North, played by the talented Billie Burke.

Of course they're all sisters. SUPER SPOILERS Glinda said that Evanora poisoned her father but made people think Glinda did it. Their father was the one who ruled on Emerald City's throne. With him gone, Evanora thought she could take the throne. The movie however doesn't note why she didn't just take the throne. It may have been because Glinda "was in the way" somehow.

Saw it today and liked it far more than Alice in Wonderland.....

The first part is amazing...The opening titles in 3D looked like watching an episode of the twilight zone... and the black-and-white part was classic.

Love the fact that there are a lot of slow-paced moments in the movie, which are far the best. The part were Oscar finds China girl in her house is such a sweet moment(classical disney), and I have to say China Girl is amazingly realistic made.
Overal the dialog parts in the movie are the best. Shots of faces for example are shown really beautiful. Another positive thing about the film are the many nods to the original classic and the background they try to give characters...Love how they include the mother of Dorothy Gale, Theodora's reaction to water, the poppy field, and so on
The finale and the moral disney tried to give us are pure greatness(or should I rather say goodness ) in my opinion, loved it...Michelle Williams is such a wonderful Glinda, would love to see much more of her as this character.

Negative things about the movie are the CGI, way too much, and the sometimes forced temporary humor. Why do people think films like these need that anyway. The middle part of the movie is a bit dull too, the usual person enters fantasy world and has to travel trough it...
The acting sometimes was dull too, I expected Evanora to be more dramatic and Mila Kunis just can't play a broken hearted girl(Felt like I was watching a little child cry)...I was expecting a great background on Theodora and an creepy psychically rage were she would go through before transforming, something ala Burton's/Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman....Anyway I liked the Wicked Witch, shame that she did have few screen time

.But I overall think that its more due to the script, which had little character development...Except for Franco, which I found really pleasant to watch (in contrary to all the negative things I heard about his acting)
