I wouldn't count on itDisneyFan09 wrote:Does anyone know if the bonus features from the 2004 dvd was originally intended for a Laserdisc release? It seems as the featurettes and the audio commentary were not recorded in 2004.

Disagreed. Disney often does this.disneyboy20022 wrote:I wouldn't count on itDisneyFan09 wrote:Does anyone know if the bonus features from the 2004 dvd was originally intended for a Laserdisc release? It seems as the featurettes and the audio commentary were not recorded in 2004.
Lilo's special features didn't resurface until years later. It's very possible the stuff for Mulan was recorded in 1998.

The review here, http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Mulan-and ... 74/#Review, details the bonus features. It appears to be pretty much the same as the previous dvd releases from what I can tell.DisneyFan09 wrote:Does anyone know if the bonus features from the 2004 dvd was originally intended for a Laserdisc release? I know that the features are the same from the DVD, but that wasn't my question. I was wondering if they were recorded during the films release in 1998. Sorry for being quarreling.gardener14 wrote:

Re:
Are there any differences between this bluray set and the previous 2-disc DVD? Mulan is one of the few titles I want to upgrade to Bluray but want to make sure it won't be a disappointment like Pocahontas.

Everything's carried over except the art galleries, DisneyPedia, and the trailer (which was only on the 1999 DVD anyway). Thankfully, Disney learned their lesson and have stopped the "Virtual Vault" nonsense that plagued Fantasia, The Lion King, and Pocahontas.

Escapay, can I ask why you hate the Virtual Vault so much? I've never used it myself, but the idea at least sounds like a good one. Do you just not like the fact that the features arent on a disc? Or does the Virtual Vault actually not work well?

I'm still disapointed the galleries have not been included on new Blu-ray releases, even if they were before. I'd get rid of more of my DVDs, but not if I'm going to lose hundreds of images.Escapay wrote:Everything's carried over except the art galleries, DisneyPedia, and the trailer (which was only on the 1999 DVD anyway). That's pretty much it, actually. I don't see the point in exiling standard-definition bonus features to a streaming-only option when a disc has more than enough room to include them. Take into consideration, for example, the fact that the Fantasia 2000 Blu-Ray actually includes all the "Virtual Vault" features on the disc itself (according to Kelvin's review), but makes it inaccessible except through either the buffer-heavy Virtual Vault, or by directly accessing the files through a BD-ROM.SWillie! wrote:Escapay, can I ask why you hate the Virtual Vault so much? Or, we could look at how the Pocahontas Blu-Ray uses only 36.6 GB of its disc space, leaving plenty of room for its standard definition extras (some of which weren't even included on Virtual Vault, and thus, left off the new release entirely).
I'm sure streaming will be the way of the future, but in the meantime, if Disney has the capabilities of including something on the disc itself, I'd rather they do that.
On the other hand, some of their streaming does work well. While I initially had problems with Second Screen (my old laptop was terrible at syncing), I've been revisiting that recently and enjoy the ability to peruse through bonus material while watching a film. Granted, I'd rather all this bonus material be available anyway, and not at the whims of when I want to watch a movie, but I'll take what I can get. Some of their decisions with that option are puzzling too, though. For example, the "360 Degrees of John Carter" documentary is extended by about 9 minutes on Second Screen, but is not offered in high-definition.
Sadyl, Disney's already moved beyond Second Screen's potential for supplemental features and lately seem to just use it for storybook apps or interactive games.

I find that I am viewing less and less of the special features, unless they are genuinely new special features such as interviews.
The primary reason to upgrade is for the superior video and audio quality. It always has been. If you don't see that, you should upgrade your TV because blu-ray is awesome.
Furthermore, they don't really need to 'fill' en entire BD with content. Just because a BD isn't filled, does not mean you are losing out. 36 Gig of movie is still a heck of a lot better than 7 Gigs of the same movie.

However there is extra content available to add and it wouldn't take cleaning out the Vault to do so and is lazy of Disney not to do so.
. It's sad when the inferior DVDs have more juice on the disc than the almighty superior blu ray.
However I know this arguement was made when DVDs didn't have anything on, but they were superior to the VHS because they would last a lot longer and that was different. Disney should be going beyond the call of duty to make sure Blu ray has just as many if not more bonus features this their past DVD editions such as Tarzan, Atlantis, Emperor's New Groove, Mulan, The Great Mouse Detective, The Rescuers/Rescuers Down Under the list goes on and on and on

Re: Mulan & Mulan 2 on Blu-ray (Spring 2013)
It's not a matter of filling out a disc with content. Disney clearly intended for this extra material to be available for viewers who wish to watch it (Virtual Vault or not). So why banish it to some online platform that is more problematic than simply putting on a disc that clearly has room for it?GreatGreg wrote:Furthermore, they don't really need to 'fill' en entire BD with content. Because for the sake of using a Blu-ray exclusive feature, no matter how much sense it makes.
