Top 25 Animated Features
I wanna know what your opinions are regarding animation. I know we're all fans of animation, especially Disney, but what are your favorite animated films. From Disney to Dreamworks to Pixar to Blue Sky and everything inbetween. I wanna get a sense of what everyone's opinions are and see where my favorites would rank on your list. Also, I'm pretty sure all the other members wanna know too. I'll post my list later.

1. Dumbo (1941)
2. Fantasia (1940)
3. Up (2009)
4. The Incredibles (2005)
5. Lilo & Stitch (2002)
6. Aladdin (1992)
7. Spirited Away (2001)
8. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977)
9. Pinocchio (1940)
10. Toy Story (1995)
11. The Little Mermaid (1989)
12. Monsters' Inc. (2001)

20. Toy Story 2 (1999)

22. Belleville Rendezvous (2003)
23. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
24. Finding Nemo (2003)
25. Coraline (2009)
...It's definitely subject to change. If you count Who Framed Roger Rabbit as an animated film (I obviously don't), it would be at #8, knocking Pooh down to #9.
Honourable Mention: The Thief and the Cobbler (even the 'Recobbled Cut' has to use some of the poorer animation from the bastardised versions, so I don't think it should rank alongside the best animated films if it doesn't really exist. If it did, it would probably be here).

5. The Iron Giant
6. Tangled
7. Grave of the Fireflies
8. Princess Mononoke
9. Aladdin
10. The Secret of Kells
11. Journey to Agartha
12. Pinocchio
13. 5 Centimetres per Second
14. The Incredibles
15. The Castle of Cagliostro

20. Castle in the Sky
21. The Little Mermaid
22. Beauty and the Beast
23. Shrek 2
24. The Illusionist
25. Spirited Away
All going by personal preference,I don't believe in objective rankings. Order doesn't matter so much, I sometimes sorted by studio a little for convenience.
I know Pinocchio seems like tokenism considering it is the only film on the list released prior to 1986.

I let myself have a little fun with this list. Instead of being strictly objective, I let nostalgia play a large part here. I tried to be representative of all different eras and studios, and I've included a short reason as to why it made my list.
1. Beauty and the Beast
The reason I got into animation. It connected art with movies for me for the first time.
2. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Just because this film embodies "Disney" for me.
3. Pinocchio
I would argue that it was Disney's greatest "masterpiece". Art, story, animation, all the pieces of the puzzle fit together to give us a fantastic film.
4. The Little Mermaid
When I think of Disney, I think of music. When I think of Disney Music, I think of the Little Mermaid.
5. Toy Story
Grew up with it, can't help but love it. The characters are some of the best ever created. This spot can act for the whole trilogy and the shorts, I suppose.
6. Bambi
Love the artistry in this film. A labor of love.
7. Tangled
Finally convinced me to fully embrace CG animation. I now do more CG animation than traditional, and I love it.
8. The Lion King
People say it's overrated. I disagree.
9. Mickey's Christmas Carol
Yeah, yeah, it's technically a short. But I look forward to Christmas every year largely due to all the great animated specials, and this is my favorite of those. Throw the Grinch, Charlie Brown, and Rudolph in here and it's a perfect Christmas.
10. How to Train Your Dragon
Far and away Dreamworks best film thus far. Love it, love it, love it. The amazing soundtrack plays a large part in that.
11. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
I have a very, very soft spot for the silly old bear. A Disney classic for everyone to love.
12. Cinderella
Love Mary Blair, and love the colors in this film. This is another one that embodies what "Disney" means for me.
13. Finding Nemo
A modern classic if there ever was one. Can't wait for the sequel.
14. Spirited Away
Let this stand for a handful of Ghibli films. While none of them are my very favorite films that I would watch over and over, the animator in me of course appreciates these films.
15. The Illusionist
My god, so gorgeous. I could watch the animation all day.
16. Lady and the Tramp
This to me was the height of the classic 40s-50s at Disney. They talked about this a lot during the production of Princess and the Frog, and I agree.
17. The Land Before Time
Used to watch this all the time, and I don't even care that there's like 37 of them now.
18. Shrek
It's very unfortunate that the series so quickly went downhill, as the first film is really really enjoyable. And who doesn't love Donkey?
19. Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
I chose this one only because Mask of the Phantasm was already listed. I really enjoy both of them, but I watched this one more as a kid.
20. Fun and Fancy Free
I really enjoy Bongo, but I LOVE Mickey and the Beanstalk. I wish they would do more featurettes with the Fab 5.
21. Aladdin
While I think the film itself is a little overrated, A Whole New World and Friend Like Me are perfection.
22. Pokemon: The First Movie
Yeah, I said it. I loved Pokemon, and still love those characters.
23. Secret of Kells
Love the art direction in the movie, and love that it was made by a pretty small team. Looking forward to their follow-up, Song of the Sea.
24. Peter Pan
While I've always felt that the film is a little disjointed and doesn't flow as a film, I love the characters and enjoy the sequels and spinoffs.
25. We're Back: A Dinosaurs Story
Yeah, I liked Dinosaurs when I was a kid. Yeah, this film isn't very good. I was a little boy. Don't judge me.
1. Beauty and the Beast

Yes, Pokemon had taken over even my middle school in the middle of nowhere.
Am I the only child of the '90s who grew up watching The Princess and the Goblin and Once Upon a Forest? I almost never hear them mentioned by anybody. I used to really love them, though they're pretty awful.

I actually thought about this. I remember seeing it in theaters at the time, and I actually still enjoy it (though I’ve fallen out of love with Pokemon, overall). My favorite part of the whole experience was getting the Mew card, which I still have somewhere.SWillie wrote:Pokemon: The First Movie

^I really liked Once Upon a Forest when I was little too. I found a VHS copy at a thrift store a year or so ago and watched it again to see what it was really like. Wow. Definitely not going on my list anymore.
I just can't rank my favourites in order. How can you all be so heartless?!
Here are 25 of my favourites. NOT in order, but numbered so that I can see how many I typed.
1. Toy Story
2. Monsters, Inc.
3. Balto
4. The Fox and the Hound
5. Beauty and the Beast
6. Oliver & Company
7. The Lion King
8. The Iron Giant
9. Treasure Planet
10. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
11. Alice in Wonderland
12. Peter Pan
13. The Secret of NIMH
14. A Bug's Life
15. The Prince of Egypt

19. How to Train Your Dragon
20. Howl's Moving Castle
21. Rise of the Guardians
22. Tangled
23. The Incredibles
24. Tarzan
25. Finding Nemo
Those are off the top of my head right now. They're not very accurate, but you get the idea of what kind of movies I like.

I still have Princess and the Goblin on VHS, and picked up Once Upon A Forest on dvd since it was pretty cheap.*Sucker for nostalgia*
I can't even begin to figure out what order these would go in, but here's a few that I can think of off-hand.
The Land Before Time
The Pebble and the Penguin
The Pagemaster (Does this count?)
Prince of Egypt
Road to El Dorado
Secret of NIMH
Anastasia
All Dogs Go to Heaven
Cats Don't Dance
We're Back!
G.I Joe Movie
Sinbad
Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest
Swan Princess
My nostalgia also demands I give a quick mention to Rainbow Brite, Happily Ever After, Cartoon All Stars to the Rescue, Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, Scooby-Doo and the Witches Ghost, and Freddie the Frog.

What really upsets me is that a lot of these non-Disney animations like Balto, The Iron Giant, The Prince of Egypt, The Road to El Dorado, The Land Before Time, Titan A.E., Cats Don't Dance, When the Wind Blows, We're Back! and countless others (mostly foreign animations) have yet to receive Blu-ray releases.
And other films like FernGully, Secret of NIMH and All Dogs Go To Heaven have, but received abysmal transfers. And they will probably NEVER be remastered or cleaned up. They all look so grimy and in need of proper restoration.

These are NOT in any order. I am just naming titles off the top of my head (which really isn't easy since I have to name actual favorites and not just random animated films).
1.Toy Story Trilogy (1995-2010)
2.Spirited Away (2001)
3.The Iron Giant (1999)
4.Aladdin (2002)
5.Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)

This is so true sadly. "The Prince of Egypt" would look amazing on blu-ray, along with El Dorado, The Iron Giant, and TitanProfessorRatigan wrote:What really upsets me is that a lot of these non-Disney animations like Balto, The Iron Giant, The Prince of Egypt, The Road to El Dorado, The Land Before Time, Titan A.E., Cats Don't Dance, When the Wind Blows, We're Back! and countless others (mostly foreign animations) have yet to receive Blu-ray releases.
And other films like FernGully, Secret of NIMH and All Dogs Go To Heaven have, but received abysmal transfers. And they will probably NEVER be remastered or cleaned up. They all look so grimy and in need of proper restoration.

When I make a rank list, I always have a hard time figuring out what to put on it. There's the 1985 stop-motion film "The Adventures of Mark Twain" I want to watch because I have a feeling I'd want it on my top 25 from seeing just one scene on YouTube.

@Pokeholic_Prince: Dreamworks' absence on my list is simply down to how much I hate their films. I don't even like How to Train Your Dragon, which seems to be regularly brought up by people who defend Dreamworks.

^You don't even like The Prince of Egypt or Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron? Those are the least DreamWorks-y to me (along with HTTYD and Rise of the Guardians, but these are more DreamWorks-y than the other two). As a rule, I'm not a huge fan of DreamWorks, but they do have a few decent to really good movies.
I realised I forgot a few movies in my lineup, so I'm gonna have to change that. I've also rearranged the movies to more or less accurately reflect how much I like them, and I've labelled the animation studios, just because. I love making lists of animation.
1. Toy Story (Pixar)
2. Monsters, Inc. (Pixar)
3. Balto (Amblimation)

Nostalgia Lane, A.K.A. Movies I Don't Necessarily Like Anymore But Enjoy Immensely Anyway Due to Extreme Nostalgia
Thumbelina (Sullivan Bluth). This one has such extreme nostalgia, it actually ranked pretty high on my list. What can I say, it was the first favourite movie I ever had. I had the computer game. I had the charm bracelet that came with the VHS. I remember my mom taking me to buy it in a now defunct department store. I still love it.
I'm trying to track down the soundtrack for a decent price, but that's turning out to be tough.
The Swan Princess (Nest)
Ice Age (Blue Sky)
Shrek (DreamWorks). It's been too long since I've seen this one, though. Maybe I still actually like it.
