Post by Uncle Remus »

i found this strange article on Internet Movie Database. check this out

Musical Number May Be Added To Mermaid
28 October 1997 (StudioBriefing)
Disney is likely to restore "Human Again, " a musical number cut from the original version of 1989's Little Mermaid, The (1989), when the film is re-released on Nov. 14, USA Today reported today (Tuesday), citing the studio's head of animation, Peter Schneider. The newspaper said that the number is also likely to be included in the next re-release of the Mermaid video.

pretty wierd huh? :)

Very strange, indeed. "Human Again," of course, was the deleted musical sequence from Beauty and the Beast, so I'm not sure how it was mistaken for The Little Mermaid in 1997 (or even how that song would fit in that movie).

On what page in USA TODAY is the article? Looking through today's edition I can't find any mention of Disney.

Hello hutch. Nice to see you here at Ultimate Disney. Just want to tell you that you wouldn't find that article in today's issue. Notice that in my post , it said:

Musical Number May Be Added To Mermaid
28 October 1997

this article was reported a couple of weeks before the reissue of the Little Mermaid in theaters.

That's pretty funny. Speaking of old articles...

I was reading an old Disney Adventures from Sept. 1997 and saw this:

"It's a bird...it's a plane...it's another Superman movie! Nicholas Cage begins filming his role as the man in tights this October. Rumor has it Jim Carey is heading for the role of Brainiac. The fifth Superman movie [Superman Reborn], directed by Tim Burton, flies into theaters next summer."

I just can't imagine Nicholas Cage as Superman. He doesn't seem very superheroish...

Which would be fine and dandy, as long as the original cut is made available.

I guess The Little Mermaid has had another DVD release (which is OOP). Thankfully, I have that copy as it too is my favourite "animated classic". Even so, I'm all for a new song provided they put the original on there as well. And IMAX print was done for TLM as well, wasn't it? I know that article is a few years old, but there is a new IMAX print isn't there?

And it isn't as though this is the first DVD edition, as I said. It wouldn't be hard to remaster the existing DVD and add a second disc with a new edition on it, would it?

I remember an old topic about the new segment for Little Mermaid. It was called something like..."Sunshine Only Shines on Land" and it was supposed to be after (white b/c of spoilers) King Triton found Ariel in her cave and destroyed all her human objects. Lemme do a quick search...

Lol, nm. Mermaid Kelly found a link to the topic in a topic I was searching. The new song is only a rumor.

EDIT: For the benefit of new members:

Topic about new song:

I didn't read through all of them since they dated back as far as Jan 2004 and Nov 2003, respectively. I guess all it was was a rumor.
