As you can see from the package below, the video output available is NTSC 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p with audio output at Linear PCM 2ch, 5.1ch, Dolby Digital 5.1ch and DTS Digital Surround 5.1ch. An installation of 10.9MB is required to play the game

With the recent announcement of KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5 ReMIX- in western territories, the time has come for promotion to begin, and what better way to start it off than with a trailer? Originally featured at PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts, this trailer may seem familiar to those of you who've followed along since the title was originally announced at last year's Tokyo Game Show!

This North American launch trailer is exactly the same as the TGS 2012 trailer, albeit with English text and voice acting. Gameplay remains in Japanese, though of course the game itself will be entirely in English.

Kingdom Hearts is just going to be in a higher resolution, with low poly and low textures intact (excluding a few). Square-Enix has confirmed that the Kingdom Hearts HD port was handled by 2 employees over a single year, while the Final Fantasy X HD remaster was given a much larger team with more development time. Seriously, why wouldn't they give Kingdom Hearts the same treatment as Final Fantasy? Texture face in HD is gross.

What are you talking about, KH 1,5 is one of the best remasters. They put great care into that one. The fact that they got new textures (like clothes) is probably due to the fact that they had none before. Clothes in KH never looked that bad.

Seriously, would it have killed them to add a couple more people to the project and have them use the fully animatable models of the characters to replace the scenes that previously had texture face. It's jarring each time they jump between the models and it's only going to be more noticeable in HD.

'Merely'. You make it sound like they threw it at us. Square had a lot of work put into KH as well, much more than other companies have put on their remasters. Aside from the new models for some characters (Sora, Riku, Ansem, the Princesses of Heart etc), you are getting a rescore, a new camera system, the reaction command, newly rendered CG cutscenes, a method to reduce banding etc etc. I don't have the game but from what I've seen there are plenty of spots where you can easily see that they have updated stuff.




Btw, we don't know that FFX's faces will be fully animated? Changing textures/models and animating characters anew are 2 different things. The fact that they added more textures probably is because the originals were pretty bad to begin with. KH didn't have that problem, or maybe the art-style complimented the lack of complicated textures.

I'm also looking forward to getting the FFX HD release (and I'm really glad they decided to include X-2 as well. All on one disc! ), but I will say I don't think Kingdom Hearts ever looked as bad as FFX did in many places, so of course no drastic differences.

Most of the effort being made for 1.5 is trophy support, enhancing past features (like adding the triangle commands to the first game for simplicity and altering the camera), and creating a film version of 358/2 Days' storyline. I don't think that's anything to turn up my nose at. The collection also has the appeal of bringing the series to the PS3 and including previous handheld games as well; and allowing gamers outside of Japan a way to play Final Mix (I know there were ways before this, but I mean without having to go through an enormous amount of trouble/reading Japanese/etc.). I thought it was said that the 1.5 remix was utilizing the figures made for the characters in Kingdom Hearts 3D anyway?

Oh, and I see it hasn't been mentioned yet, but apparently 1.5 ends with clips from KH2, Birth by Sleep, and Coded--hint for a 2.5 collection? We knew it was coming anyway, and I'm glad.

This year marks the 90th Anniversary of the Walt Disney Company, and Walt Disney Company Japan plans to celebrate it by having their first ever D23 Expo! [sum]D23 Expo Japan 2013 be hosted by many Disney Japan creative executives who plan to unveil upcoming movies, television series, music, games, theme parks, and more to commemorate the success of Disney throughout the years.

At the expo to be held October 12-14 2013, there will be a KINGDOM HEARTS Fan Event where executive producer Shinji Hashimoto, along with iconic voice actors from the series, will discuss their experiences with the series, production secrets, and insider information that is only available at this event! The KINGDOM HEARTS Fan Event will last an hour from 3-4pm JST on October 14th and will definitely be an amazing treat for fans that are able to attend D23.

New Square Enix president outlines plans for the future

Yosuke Matsuda, the newly announced president of Square Enix who will be replacing Yoichi Wada in a few months time recently outlined his plans for the future of the company, hoping to "cast all of [Square Enix's] resources" towards extending what makes it successful along with "thoroughly squeezing out what doesn’t."

People have speculated about Matsuda's leadership in the company, hoping the future would look brighter under his command. Under Wada's leadership, the company announced a net income loss of 13 billion yen, followed by his resignation.

Matsuda's plans are outlined in the most recent Square Enix Holdings briefing session, in which he states that he plans on reviewing all Square Enix duties, business and assets on a zero-based budgeting standpoint.

"Due to the radical change of environment, I’d like to fundamentally review what works and what doesn’t work for our company, then cast all of our resources towards extending what makes us successful and thoroughly squeezing out what doesn’t."

This coincides with recent layoffs at Square Enix North America, confirmed to have taken place last week. As of yet, they seem to be the only division affected so far. Meanwhile, Phil Rogers CEO of Square Enix Europe will be made the new CEO of Square Enix Holdings.

"As far as a concrete plan on what to expect from us, I will further explain it on another briefing session in the near future, so I kindly ask for your patience. Thank you for your support."

What this means for the upcoming projects and games at Square Enix will remain unclear at least until Matsuda formally takes over the position of president in June of this year. The KINGDOM HEARTS series as a whole will undoubtedly be a part of Matsuda's reviewing process, especially with the debate which it has recieved as of late. Series director, Tetsuya Nomura's emphasis on expanding the series to various hand-held systems, instead of sticking strictly with TV consoles might thus very well be reconsidered by said reviewing process.

Your thoughts on this? Were the layoffs necessary? Do you believe there are changes to be expected for the future of the KINGDOM HEARTS series?

Yes, but don't get your hopes up. The XBOX is generally looked down upon by the Japanese community and developers. Versus (an HD game from Nomura) has been a PS3 exclusive while FFXIII was released on the 360 as well. It makes sense from a business' perspective though.
