Since it seems it will come to 3D blu ray, that makes me think that a possible theatrical release isn't totally dead as of yet. I do think it's just been postponed with this piece of news ala Beauty & The Beast

Only one problem. How do we KNOW it's being postponed and NOT cancelled?

We wont Know until its officially confirmed, but just think about it, think about all the time money and effort it takes to convert a movie and do it well, especially for a non caps film and look at it objectively. Remember how low 3D penetration has been with home releases. Has any decent 3D release Not been released theatrically? Not that I can recall.

As much as Disney makes decisions we don't like, you can usually see where their coming from. If they don't want this investment to go completely to waste they'll release it theatrically.

If released PRIOR to the home release, then it will be a success. It has been away for too long for it not to be.

I just hope Disney know that ....

Hate to be blunt, Kyle, but I think the theatrical rerelease's status has BEEN confirmed, as of mid to late January.

And Atlantica, I certainly hope they realize they're making a financially fatal mistake before it's too late.

I think it's lame to release it theatrically after the BD's release. If it were the other way around, I could certainly see it doing around $70-80 million. It's THAT popular. But I guess will never know, since it's either not coming to theatres at all or coming AFTER the BD release.

I don't know ANYONE who thinks home release before theatrical release is a good idea.... who the hell thought of it at Disney I wonder?

I don't know, but it's frustrating. It would make half the business it could potentially do.

Personally, I won't be seeing it in the theatre. I prefer the 3D BD release so as long as they don't cancel that, I'm good.

Prices for the theatrical tickets are outrageous and I much prefer to watch it at home, and with a movie like TLM, I know I will watch it over and over. It is more economical.

I thought it was silly too to release BATB in theatres in 3D after the blu-ray was already out. I mean, what is the point there?

For the past few 3D theatrical releases of Disney Films, I've got a free ticket though Disney Movie Rewards except for Lion King and Beauty & The Beast. I went to a matinée and paid $7 to see it. Mainly for the big screen effect. If I wouldn't have had a free ticket for Monsters Inc of Finding Nemo I wouldn't have went

Only on weekdays at AMC Theaters. It's $4 for a non 3D movie.

credit goes to Paul H from Blu-ray.com

Mermaid fall Blu 3D; no Disneynature
“The Little Mermaid” will be released in 3D this fall after all, but on Blu-ray instead of theatrically on Sept. 16 as previously announced. The Blu-ray 3D will likely be on Oct. 1.

So it's no longer Diamond edition ?

*head-desks *

Recycled from the DVD cover as well. Talk about giving us TLM fans the finger.

showing a release date of Oct. 1 for a Blu-ray Diamond Edition of the movie. The date is listed next to a 90-second trailer that does not show a date and says nothing about 3D, but only that the movie will be “for the first time ever in High Definition.” But another trailer we found (below) promotes the movie as being in 3D for the first time ever on Blu-ray 3D, but it is not called the Diamond Edition.

It's referring to the trailer I uploaded which in turn probably referred to the now cancelled theatrical re-release.
