I knew someone on another forum who had to scroll past my posts whenever I had an Ursula banner, he was so terrified of the character.
It was so bizarre. I must have been a really strange child, because she was always my favorite character, though I liked Ariel, too. The climax has always been my favorite part of the film. It's too bad merchandise of Ursula featuring the crown and trident is so uncommon; she doesn't look complete without them in my mind.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
I completely forgot it comment on this prospective VHS cover with the cancellation of the theatrical rerelease! I have never ever seen this before so thank you so much for posting it! If it was a little more refined with Ariel and Eric being more on model and it used original artwork for Scuttle, Sebastian and Flounder instead of relying on stock clipart then it would make a really nice cover which would easily appeal to children who would immediately be able to recognise the characters. Oh and like someone else suggested Eric should be holding his flute and not a sword as that it's completely random! What I find most interesting about this advert is how it states "Video Appeals to Boys and Girls!"; as a straight male who's favourite film has been The Little Mermaid since the age of about 2 it has always annoyed me that people refer to it as a "girl's movie" (the same applies to all other Disney Princess films) they're amazing films and should be enjoyed by everyone young and old! If only Disney marketed the film as gender neutral as they do here, guess the Princess franchise has pretty much killed any attempt at thatrb_canadian181 wrote:All this discussion of the new cover art possibilities got me thinking of one I remember seeing that eventually got scrapped when they were releasing the 1997 re-issue on VHS. This is about as good of a close-up as I've ever found of the un-used artwork. You can see that it says "cover art subject to change". Anyway I find this might be a good idea for them to use (something similar) for the next release because it's not an in-your-face close up and it has a variety of characters.
I re-watched my Platinum DVD today and it has made me even more excited and anxious for it's BluRay release. It is going to look and sound amazing. I'm still gutted that I'm not going to be able to see it again on the big screen, but then Disney are so illogical at times I shouldn't be surprised. I hope they at least put a lot of effort into promoting it's release from the Vault, if they do that it is sure to sell thousands of copies and top the Bluray charts at least!
Going back to my earlier post about what I would like to see on this release it would also be amazing if Disney dug deep into their Vault and included the original 1989 Making of The Little Mermaid that aired on the Disney Channel prior to the film's release. It can be seen on YouTube here. I very much doubt Disney would include it but it would be awesome to have alongside the McDonalds commercial to get a feel of the movie's original buzz. I hope we get some initial cover art and the trailer very soon, I'm looking forward to seeing how the logo will look! I was also thinking the could also perhaps (very unlikely) include the documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty being that it's all about the Disney Renaissance and it only had a very limited release, we didn't even get it here in the UK! I would love to see it!
This is guess work on my part but it seems we might be looking at an August release at least in the UK which was when we got Cinderella last year. I say this because Amazon have several Little Mermaid related books listed for a July/August release so this suggests that the release will not be long to follow. These are a few of the listings, I suspect the one's that have cover art might be updated nearer the time when the film's new logo is released:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Learn-Draw-Disn ... 316&sr=1-3
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Little-Mermaid- ... 383&sr=1-6
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Little-Mermaid- ... 411&sr=1-7
I'm going to be keeping a close watch on new listings for Mermaid related merchandise over the coming months
I love The Little Mermaid and Ariel

While I doubt it will be on the bluray release, make sure you see Waking Sleeping Beauty somehow or other, especially being such a big fan of Little Mermaid. An absolutely fantastic film - it did a great job reminding why I want to go into animation.miklc wrote:I was also thinking the could also perhaps (very unlikely) include the documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty being that it's all about the Disney Renaissance and it only had a very limited release, we didn't even get it here in the UK! Yeah I guess it's REALLY wishful thinking that they would include something like this on Mermaid's BluRaySWillie! wrote:While I doubt it will be on the bluray release, make sure you see Waking Sleeping Beauty somehow or other, especially being such a big fan of Little Mermaid. I really want to see this film and have done ever since I first heard about it, hopefully I will get to see it sometime in the near future. On a similar note with the Walt Disney Company turning 90 years old this year it would be amazing if they started releasing an annual documentary film focusing on a specific decade in the company's history; how amazing would that be! I recently re-watched the Disney Through the Decades on Snow White's Blu and whilst it is a really interesting insight into the company and it's development over the years in particular with regards to it's animation department it's length prevents it from going into detail. It really could be fleshed out into several standalone documentaries, chronicling the company from the Alice cartoons and the Silly Symphonies right up till the present day! Man I guess I can dream right?
Oh and I've thought of something else I would like to see on Mermaid's BluRay, I recently found out about a shelved show that was proposed in the early 90s featuring a live action actress playing Ariel titled Little Mermaid's Island. I believe two episodes were made, it would be wonderful if we were able to see them! There is so much amazing content Disney could include on this upcoming release however I have a feeling they aren't going to go out of their way to include it

Well I must have been a strange child too as I also adored Ursula. It wasn't until I grew up and fell in love with a Drag Queen named Divine that I fully understood my attraction. (Ursula was based on Divine).Disney's Divinity wrote:I knew someone on another forum who had to scroll past my posts whenever I had an Ursula banner, he was so terrified of the character. It was so bizarre. I also adore Lady Tremaine. Classic Disney Villians may have been evil but they still had a kind of untouchable elegance.
As far as merchandise goes, I have wanted a Vanessa Doll and figure since 1989 so I am right there with you. Oh, and this is my first post so hello everyone! -Steven

Disney is out of control.
I don't know if TLM3D got cancelled. It hasn't been confirmed by Disney just because it wasn't on the recent Disney movie schedule dosen't mean it got cancelled.
I think Disney knows that this is one of the biggest Disney movie and their not going to screwed up the 3D release date. Maybe the 3D conversion is taking much longer that they were expecting and just removed it from the schedule. TLK3D took around four months to be converted because it was in CAPS while TLM is all hand-drawn.
Have a feeling Disney is going to pull a B&TB after the blu-ray get release. Which I think it's a big mistake since everyone already going to own the recent release and this way they can loose money. In case they do this then there's going to be a 3D Blu-ray release (some people are going to say, "I just bought the 2D Blu-ray a few months ago). If Disney going to do this I rather wait for a 2014 release with a 3D release follow by the blu-ray release.
We just need to wait to see if TLM is still confimed on the Peter Pan booklet, hopefully a trailer too, and maybe a promo poster for the release.
Oh Disney
Really was looking forward seeing TLM on the big screen.

So excited about this!!!
most likely, the release date is going to be October 1st. I'm so curious to see the cover artwork for both the Blu-ray and the DVD (I might get both of them, here in Europe, the Blu-ray doesn't include a DVD copy of the film anymore). All we need now is a confirmation from the booklet of the Blu-ray release of Peter Pan and a trailer.

"After all, tomorrow is another day!"
Gosh, forgot that, we will have two different covers to choose from won't we, as there will be the DVD packaging and Blu as well ! Really hope it doesn't let us down even more so than this release already has!Sicoe6256 wrote:So excited about this!!!most likely, the release date is going to be October 1st. I'll probably be one of those people who buys several different versions, if they have different covers.atlanticaunderthesea wrote: Gosh, forgot that, we will have two different covers to choose from won't we, as there will be the DVD packaging and Blu as well ! But that reminds me--shouldn’t The Little Mermaid have a Steelbook, too? I hope it’ll at least look as nice as the one for B&tB’s Diamond Edition, but it’d be nice if they went for the jugular. I don’t think they’ll top Sleeping Beauty’s Steelbook though. It was gorgeous. I really wish I had been able to buy it at the time, since it’s going to be overpriced if I try to get it from now on.

Mermaid should be getting a steel case... I don't know if you've read about the issue with Viva metal box (the company that Disney used for past couple years) being sued by Steelbook and forced to shut down, but right now the future of Disney collectible packaging is kinda up in the air unfortunately. If they continue to make them they'll have to go back to using Steelbook. I certainly hope they figure it out quick, because it looks like Peter Pan will the victim here that doesn't get one while they sort things out.Disney's Divinity wrote:But that reminds me--shouldn’t The Little Mermaid have a Steelbook, too? Target may have a digibook since they are doing one for Peter Pan as well. I thought we would get a Metal Box at Best Buy, but not anymore unless Disney changes companies for the cases. Viva was sued by the makers of Steelbooks and they are no longer allowed to sell them.Disney's Divinity wrote:I'll probably be one of those people who buys several different versions, if they have different covers.atlanticaunderthesea wrote: Gosh, forgot that, we will have two different covers to choose from won't we, as there will be the DVD packaging and Blu as well !
