Do Mermaid fans get a bit of a rough-house treatment ? I know Ariel is all over the place and in our faces all of the time, but people forget about her actual movie.....it isnt condsidered as 'great' as BATB, as funny as Aladdin, epic as TLK or the ultimate 'princess' movie .... always seems to be hovering between all those things.
And this cancellation has capped it all off for me.

It may not be as "great" as BATB, as funny as Aladdin, epic as TLK, or the ultimate princess movie BUT it does have the BEST music of ANY animated classic!atlanticaunderthesea wrote:Do Mermaid fans get a bit of a rough-house treatment ? I'm still holding out for a 3D home release. If I can't see it in 3D in theaters at least (hopefully) I'll be able to see it in my home.
Walmart: the perfect place to shop for a headache at a discount price.
People usually see BATB and TLK as the more "serious" movies, while Aladdin is the comedy and TLM has the best music. It's more "light" than BATB and TLK but that's just what I like about it. It has romance, it has drama but at the same time it's witty, funny and upbeat. That's something rarely achieved... Honestly, most of the time, I hear people around me (university, army, work, family) rave about either TLM or TLK.atlanticaunderthesea wrote:Do Mermaid fans get a bit of a rough-house treatment ? As for the cancellation, it has to do with the fact that the lineup that started in 2001 had BATB and TLK precede TLM, so it's based on their performance that TLM is green-lit or not.

And make enough money to produce a sequel with a plot about spy planes or something more ridiculous.RodryCroft wrote:They only want to sell new toys ¬¬atlanticaunderthesea wrote:If bloody PLANES is getting a cinema release, they can jolly well go and release Mermaid in the cinema! Hunchback does have a beautiful score, but the I don't think the lyrics are as memorable or good as the 3 Howard Ashman movies. Lyrically, I think Batb or TLM deserves the crown.Disney Duster wrote:I'd give best music to Hunchback, but Mermaid may be as great as BatB.tlc38tlc38 wrote:It may not be as "great" as BATB, as funny as Aladdin, epic as TLK, or the ultimate princess movie BUT it does have the BEST music of ANY animated classic!
Agreed! Although Hunchback comes at least VERY close for me.Disney_freak wrote:Hunchback does have a beautiful score, but the I don't think the lyrics are as memorable or good as the 3 Howard Ashman movies. You guys have got to be kidding. THE LITTLE MERMAID is well known as the movie which ushered in Disney's Renaissance period. It is most definitely a big deal. Take a walk in a Disney Park and count how many toys, candies, and merchandise there is for TLM.
As for the reasons for its apparent cancellation, which could be no more than just a change in release date, there are many business reasons why this would not/could not go ahead -- none of which may be due to popularity.
Everything is really speculation at this point. It is way to early to have any definitive answer. I would think even Disney can't say for sure.

When I contacted Disney studios a couple of weeks ago they said its still a fall 2013 release. Apparently they confirmed this again when they were talking to Tlc38tlc38 and from the sounds of it Aladdin is still a diamond edition from what he said. Heres his post from the pinocchio thread if you missed it.

She also told me that The Little Mermaid in theaters has been canceled but it is still coming out on blu-ray later this year (she didn't know about a 3D home release). She didn't know anything about The Jungle Book but she did mention Aladdin getting pushed back for Peter Pan.
Thank God! It's still coming to Blu-ray!Disney_freak wrote:When I contacted Disney studios a couple of weeks ago they said its still a fall 2013 release. LOL, that's one of my favorite parts as well, when she gets huge. You can also hear a really muffled sound of groaning in the background... it's really scary, lol I love it.Sicoe6256 wrote:The film has some of the most impressive sound effects used in motion pictures, but my favorite is when Ursula rises from the ocean, and becomes huge. When I was a kid, that scene scared the crap out of me. Especially at the Disney On Ice show. For a long time after Disney On Ice I stayed away from The Little Mermaid for about three years if I had to guessrodis wrote:LOL, that's one of my favorite parts as well, when she gets huge.
