Watched episode one with my 5-year-old grand daughter, and she really enjoyed it. She laughed when Hugo crashed after trying to avoid the tree and she jumped up and down when Sofia and James were the first two to the finish line.
This show is recording at the time she is in school, so when we brought her home after school we had her lunch ready and she and I sat together and had lunch while watching Sofia the First. Good show, and set on my DVR so I don't miss an episode.

Okay, I am puzzled. Disney makes a big deal about when "Sofia the First", the series, is going to be on and they premier it on Friday morning at 8:30 as part of the Disney Jr. shows on Disney Channel.
Now this week they have it on Saturday morning at 7:30 with no mention if this is temporary or if it will go back to Fridays. If they play around with this series it could be very short-lived.
Don't understand what is going on. My 5-year-old grand daughter was upset when she came home school Friday and there was no "Sofia" on because they moved it to Saturday.

That can't be cause I watched it yesterday too which was a new episode(the sleepover one). I lived in NJ which it airs 9:30am on Friday and that's what it does. Maybe it something to do where you live?dvdjunkie wrote:Okay, I am puzzled. The time differences might have to do with your provider?
We switched from Time Warner Cable to DirecTV this week. A lot of friends who still have Time Warner Cable got the episode at 9:30 but we didn't get it until noon.
My kids are young (5, 4 and 2) and we just record the episodes on our DVR. Thankfully, my kids are pretty content with watching any of them so if we get a new episode late (or not at all) it's not a big deal.

I have Cox as my service provider and have had them for over 13 years, and we have it set on our DVR for 8:30 a.m. Central time. The show didn't air Friday, and my DVR said it was going to be on Saturday morning (today) at 7:30 a.m. and, again, it wasn't shown, but my DVR says it is recording the show tomorrow (Sunday) at 7:30 a.m.
I will be talking with them Wednesday when I go into pay my bill at the office. This is something that I thing needs to fixed, if it is their problem, or contact Disney to find out when it was shown as scheduled.

So it seem this episode, episode 5, seems to be the last one for the season 1 as I don't see any listing to any new episodes, as it will repeat episodes. Any idea anyone know when they start again with new episodes again? Sotris?

Not gonna lie: I really enjoy this show. Yeah it is very cute and kiddy, and very princessy, but it is such an enjoyable story with funny and memorable characters. It reminds me a tiny bit of Friendship is Magic in that you see that it is a show that hopes to promote better values for children, but still manages to be enjoyable for anyone.
One of my issues I have with most of children's programming is that too many of them are like Dora the Explorer and condesending: always yelling at the screen.
"HEY BOYS AND GIRLS, DO YOU SEE THE HIDDEN TREASURE! COME ON LET'S GO!!!"
With Sofia and shows like it, it knows that kids are smarter than that and will react to what the characters do in the story, rather than to have them shout at the screen.
"The Big Sleepover" is my favorite so far, followed by the troll episode.

Yeah exactly. The show, while there are some elements of you can tell preschool toning down, is well made and treats it's audience(the kids) with sense respect and intelligence, where as most of those pre-k shows like pap64 was saying, seems condensing treat it's audience with retardation level.
I think the stories here are well put together with a moral lesson in them that isn't that forced or in your face. It has more of Aladdin type moral lesson subtlety in it, where you know it's there but at same time it isn't in your face either.
Some of the songs are bit catchy to me like "Princess Things":

I loved that they addressed gender roles in the show, how nothing should be related to a gender. I also liked the message behind the Troll episode: there are always two sides of the story, and they are both listening to, even if one of them contradicts yours.
The Cedric episode was just plumb adorable, especially when Sofia gave him a gold star. That's another thing about Sofia: SHE IS ADORABLE. And best of all, it comes off as genuinely sweet. Usually when cute girl characters are presented, they are either so annoying you want them to die, or a parody of an annoying cute girl. Sofia manages that balance between cute and likable. I think Ariel Winter nails her performance as someone that is naive, innocent and sweet.
I also love the stepsister, especially her subtle bitchy attitude. She is much better now than in the pilot movie, but especially in the sleepover episode she was all haughty about stuff. I loved that! Heck, the whole episode was great. Especially the sleep over song (WE ARE AT A ROYAL SLEEP OVER A ROYAL SLEEP OVER!)

Seems so to me too. Although not to the same boost level MLP does.Sotiris wrote:Is it me or is Sofia the First starting to develop a fanbase similar to the MLP: Friendship is Magic? (not that's a bad thing--it's simply an observation).

The way I see it, they are saving the princess cameos for the really big stories and character arcs. In the pilot movie, Cinderella appeared because Sofia had made a big mistake and felt alone at the moment. Considering we only have 10 official princesses (7 if you consider that Tiana, Pocahontas and Mulan may not fit the royal, classic fairy tale feel of the series), I think they are saving them for when they are really needed, like season finales, big specials and such. Note that Peter Pan didn't appear in Jake and the Never Land Pirates until way later during a special, so I suspect the same will be with Sofia and the princesses.atlanticaunderthesea wrote:Is there any news of the next Princess making a cameo? Logic dictates Ariel, no?
As for the fanbase, I've noticed that too, but I think what will keep it smaller than Friendship is Magic is that Disney will keep pushing it towards the young and family audience, whereas with FiM Hasbro suddenly wanted to focus on the Bronies and thus lost its way. In other words, Disney will make sure that it doesn't become an internet fad or something that gained ironic love, but will have a genuinely following from many people.
