Where's that image originally from?
I'm pretty sure it's from Disney Store exclusive merchandise from the late 2000s, at least that's where it originated from because I had stationary with it on. Not sure whether Disney used it later on newer merchandise, when I immediately saw the new clipart I knew it looked familiar!
On the topic of the new art for the Princesses I am quite liking it! I am really liking Ariel's new outfit especially in the aqua-purple palette, it is so much nicer than the pink version because it relates to her original colour scheme and just generally suits her! Really like this "new" pose for her as well, although her face (particularly her eyes) she a little off, can't quite place it. I am really looking forward to seeing what new merchandise is really later in the year to celebrate the re-release of TLM
I am SO happy they're starting to use Pocahontas and Mulan more in the merchandise albeit only marginally, I just wish they would give Pocahontas some new poses instead of using the oh-so-serious pose that has been around since the movie was released in 1995! It doesn't portray her character at all, yes she has her serious moments but she has a very carefree nature and they could really make something of that, I'm sure! Mulan's new outfit is really nice, the only change I would make would be to turn the overall dress red and use gold for the trimmings as red is a very traditional colour in Chinese culture and it would make her look very regal. Has anyone got a full image of her new clothing?
The only thing I am not so keen on is the colouring of some of their hair in particular Aurora's which does not seem to fit in with the whole flat-colour palette of the Princesses in general, it would be fine if being applied when portraying the characters in a specific way as some artists do but not in generic merchandise. Belle's hair is just a voluptuous mess! The random loose strands are kind of annoying as well on certain characters.
Overall I am liking the new designs because it becomes extremely boring seeing the same old, bland artwork being applied over and over again! I mean the franchise has been around for more than a decade now so I like it when they mix things up a bit, plus it's fun seeing new designs that represent their stories i.e. sea shells on Ariel.
I think my favourites of the new design are Cinderella, Mulan and Ariel (the aqua-purple version), I wonder why they're not using the new Snow White design much
It would be cool to see more Ariel merchandise using the Tour of the Kingdom dress though!
EDIT: Whoops just seen the other people's post on original design for the new pose! I agree it does make her look really airbrushed, I did like how they did her tail though with all the scales. The artwork has been around since about 2008/2009 though I think the Disney store may have used it on new merchandise last year like atlanticaunderthesea has stated, rather than creating new designs
