AS we approach the season of Halloween , how about Disney releasing the new Witch character Mother Gothel for Rapunzel?

A new Villains Countdown would be appropriate too!!

No, they didn't.
The disc's dated sneak peeks promote The Jungle Book: Platinum Edition, Enchanted, My Friends Tigger & Pooh: Super Sleuth Christmas Movie, and Little Einsteins: Race for Space. Menu promos advertise Meet the Robinsons, Tinker Bell, High School Musical 2, the finished-looking but thus-unrealized Mulan/Cinderella Disney Princess Enchanted Tales DVD, and Disney Parks.

Maybe it's not cancelled after all...

Wow, that's even lazier of Disney than I expected!

I wish it meant the series wasn't canceled, but I doubt it.

Well, in that video you can hear her singing under the vocals being played at the beginning. Plus, it sounds exactly the same as on her CD. I'm not trying to diss her, I love her... but perhaps they didn't have a backing track for it? Ok, well... let me watch it again...

Sorry about bumping this thread without having anything new to add...

but I've recently read online that the reason the Enchanted Tales series was cancelled was because of poor sales. Can anyone tell us about the performance of this title? Anyone that has the numbers?

I always thought it was because of Lasseter's decision to stop producing DTV sequels. However, if it's true that Lasseter's jurisdiction does not apply with franchises related to Disney Consumer Products (which would explain the Tinkerbell series) then the reason could really be about poor sales.

Anw, I find it a real waste not to at least release the almost finished volume of Kingdom of Kindness and the half-finished volume 2 and let the animation rust in some archive.

I agree about releasing the remaining finished stories...if cheapening the brand, though, is part of the reason, then I guess it's understandable why they're just sitting in a vault or whatever, but at least recoup your money!

This article (from 6/21/07) says:

http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/ ... rrill.aspx
And since Sharon was pushing to put a "Disney Princess Enchanted Tales" DVD series (Which would feature all-new adventures of classic Disney characters like Aurora from "Sleeping Beauty" and Jasmine from "Aladdin") into production (Which John & Ed worried might then undercut audience's interest in "The Princess and the Frog," that new feature that was supposed to revive traditional animation at the studio) ... Clearly a change had to be made at the very top of DisneyToon Studios.

So first Lasseter & Catmull got the "Disney Princess Enchanted Tales" line cancelled (The first -- and now only -- installment of this new series, "Follow Your Dreams," goes on sale in September). Then they got Disney management to remove Morrill herself.

And with that, DisneyToon Studios was now officially out of the sequel business. Oh, sure. There are still a few high profile productions like "The Little Mermaid 3" yet to be burned off. As well as "The Tinkerbell Movie" (along with that trio of sequels that are also supposed to support the "Disney Fairies" franchise) that have yet to be completed & released.
I think that the Disney Princess line is a little blurred- it is a DCP line, but the basis of the line is the animated classics, versus Pixie Hollow and Tinker Bell's friends aren't included in Peter Pan... but, with TP&tF and Rapunzel, maybe Lasseter doesn't want any cheapening of future princess films...?

*edit*

Some DVD sales info:

9/16/07:

http://www.the-numbers.com/interactive/ ... ewsID=2850
Disney Princess Enchanted Tales - Follow Your Dreams was close behind with 220,000 units sold for the week for $3.95 million in sales.
http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/2007/0DPET.php
Home Market Performance
US DVD Sales: $14,722,708
That's quite a lot of money...I imagine that there was a pretty small budget for this project, so surely they made a lot of money on it.

Thanks for providing us with the numbers.

I still wish they would continue the series though.

I'm not sure Disney would be able to lose money on an animated Disney Princess DVD, no matter how poorly-reviewed.

But they're losing money on it by not releasing it- they paid people to make it, but they haven't gotten their money's worth, but if they release it, then they'll make some money back (surely they'll make more than they spent making it).

Right. I meant ones they actually release. They could put out the disc they shelved with a minimum of marketing and still turn a tidy profit.

They could put Belle's (almost) finished story as an extra in the new Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition DVD/Blu-Ray.

But I really wish they would continue the series.

Sorry to bump this thread after two years, but does anyone think we'll ever see a Blu-ray release of Disney Princess Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dreams?

I know the planned DVD series was cancelled after the first release didn't sell well, but would Disney be willing to try again in HD, maybe pairing it with something else in some kind of "Princess Collection?" I've only ever seen part of this, but from what I remember the quality was decent. I believe this was one of the last hand-drawn DTV films released before John Lasseter cancelled future sequels from DisneyToon Studios.

Also, I remember reading that when the trailer for this release debuted it showed two completely different stories than were actually released on the DVD. Were the other two stories completed or was the footage shown in the trailer recycled from something else?

There were some stories that were planned for this series, however, only two made the first volume and then they stopped.

As we all know, the first volume was called 'follow your dreams' and featured Aurora and Jasmine.

However, the first volume that was planned was called 'kingdom of kindness' and featured two different stories, one about Belle and another one about Aurora (a different one than the one included in follow your dreams). We found this out through a trailer with new footage. They also released a Belle song, an Aurora preview and there was another trailer (I think this was the first one actually).
Nothing was heard from this volume after it got replaced with follow your dreams.

After the release of follow your dreams a second volume was planned (with no subtitle yet) with a story about Cinderella and Mulan. Again, a trailer was released but this DVD never saw the light of day because of the bad sales of the first volume.

However, Disney never made a statement about this footage, if it is finished or not, which is a shame.
No word on a Bluray either but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

I love the clip you posted with Aurora in her Briar Rose outfit! Seriously, this looked almost complete. I don't understand why they don't release it, or at least air it on the Disney Channel. In fact, I think Enchanted Tales would have been better as a weekly half our TV series on the Disney Channel. Much better than Sofia the First, that's for sure................

I want to see this released! Or at least if nothing else see Aurora's song: The look in his eyes released! I love the sound of that song so damn much and I can't hear all of it cause it was never released!

I know this has been said before; but I firmly believe that if effort had been put into these releases, they could have become little gems.

The characters are beloved, and they have a wealth of material with them, with fun side kicks and lovely environments, vocal talent is sturdy to.

So if there had been more care in the script and songs, things could have turned out differently. Look at the Tink series and 'Tangled Ever After'.... all beautiful pieces as EFFORT was put in.

I would also like to see the series continued. Much better than Sofia the First, and this series actually showed some potential.
