Diamond Edition vs. Ultimate Collector's Edition

Post by Barbossa »

So what's the better edition? Diamond or Ultimate?

"Ultimate Collector's" seems to be the new label choice for new releases now, the biggest combo which includes the 3D Blu-Ray. Brave just got the Ultimate treatment, with Finding Nemo, Up, Monsters Inc. and Wreck-It Ralph following.

So what if one of the movies in the Diamond line is released with a 3D disc, like Beauty and the Beast and Lion King? Is it an Ultimate or stays in the Diamond line?

:?

3 years ago it would've been a tie. Now it's hands down the Ultimate line. They usually come with a second Blu-ray disc dedicated to EXTRAS, which no longer exists in the Diamond line, and they don't utilize the dreadful Virtual Vault. I'm hoping these high standards are carried over to Wreck-it-Ralph's release as part of the line, since Rapunzel was basically barebones. Also, and this isn't really a positive or a negative but the Ultimate Collector's Editions I've seen have had lenticular covers. Seriously, it's not even a contest.

I'm kind of hoping that Aladdin, Lilo & Stitch, Tarzan, Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis all get the Ultimate Collector's Edition treatment, so that all the old fantastic extras get carried over and without the Virtual Vault. Hell, a Fantasia re-release under the new line with some decent extras this time would be wonderful.

Ugh... you just reminded me about the Tangled release. I was so looking forward to buying that. WHen I realized there were pretty much no special features, I decided to skip it.
Cmon... not even an audio commentary!?!?!?

Even the borders on the Diamond line used to be better - all sparkly. And the discs lost their disc art! :x

It's still Diamond Edition, even with the extra 3D disc. Just checked my 5-disc Beauty and the Beast to double check. :)
