Holiday Viewing Log 2012
Even though I personally include any viewing that is about any holiday taking place from Nov. 1st when Halloween ends to Jan. 6th when Little Christmas/Epiphany is held for some many seem to start the night of whenever the American version of Thanksgiving is. With that in mind I happily declare this wonderful season OPEN for the UD/DVDizzy Forum! Please list everything you watch during the season from Kwanzaa‎ to New Year's, Winter solstice to Hanukkah, and Christmas to Festivus in this list.

A slow start for me but started off with this:
1. Pocahontas
2. Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World

I do like watching Disney DACs at this time of year. Hopefully I can get into the theater next Tuesday to see Wreck-It Ralph.
Ok, I admit Pocahontas II is the first DTV Disney sequel I have watched. It's bad, but it's not that bad. It is a little sad to see decently designed characters having to put up with Saturday Morning Cartooon calibre animation.
Want to watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, but can't find my copy right now. Hmm wonder where I put it.

Bambi and Bambi II
I like to watch Bambi at this time of year probably because I pretty much grew up in a forested area and spent a lot of time in the bush in the autumn. Always loved Bambi since I was a kid. Loved how Walt's animators designed the forest. The animation is truly a work of art on this one. Always loved the April Showers sequence with all the water droplets. What amazes me is animators these days don't take a risk and make something a little bit more artsy to appeal to all ages (like in the Walt era). Seems like everything coming out of the Mouse House these days has to be targeted mainly to hyperactive children.
As for Bambi II, it's not that bad. The animation doesn't feel as much as a Saturday morning cartoon on this one. And Captain Picard voices the great prince of the forest - who I met this year at the local comic con! Hope to meet Sir Patrick Stewart again one day, a very nice gentleman and he had some great stories to share.

I would participate, but being a hard-core holiday movie buff, I don't count cartoons, short subjects or television shows as holiday watching events. I list only movies, and that is all. After all a Holiday Movie Viewing log should include only holiday movies, and the shorts should be just an extra to break up the monotony of watching nothing but movies. And those who watch on-line things are taking a chance of getting a virus of some kind, which are more prevalent during the holiday season.
When I list what I have watched, beginning Saturday, December 1st, you will note movies and Christmas and other holiday shorts mixed in. I will only count the movies.
My goal this year is to watch 75 movies or more.

The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!

It's been QUITE a while since I've seen that but I recall really enjoying the peppy junkyard dog song at least. Did you have any feelings on that number either way?Barbossa wrote:

As I said last year, I don't care what you list your rules are yours and yours alone, just enjoy and to paraphrase Yukon Cornelius of the Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer Special of 1964 (which more than a few consider a Holiday event each year) : 'You list what you like, and we'll list what we like.'dvdjunkie wrote:I would participate, but being a hard-core holiday movie buff, I don't count cartoons, short subjects or television shows as holiday watching events. As for the Online thing, I've never heard of anyone getting a virus or something from Blip.tv, or YouTube or other such reputable sites that I visit. I don't pirate my viewing, hell I don't even know how. I simply enjoy alternate programming that happens to be on the internet, be it a Sitcom like The Guild or a review show like The Cinema Snob or just a vlog like many Youtubers, the internet video scene is not all a dark dirty place so again I have no problem here *Shrug*.

Saw it in the theater last night. Was great! Loved all the cameos. Definitely a day 1 purchase for me.
I think I'll give that Beauty and the Beast Christmas sequel a try next.

Prep and Landing and Prep and Landing Naughty vs. Nice
I think this is about the third time I've seen Prep and Landing, but just the first time I've seen it's sequel. Both are good. I wonder if they'll make any more in this series.

Miracle on 34th Street
A classic to kick off the Christmas season. I still haven't seen the John Hughes remake from 1994, but I picked it up on Blu-Ray the other day so I'll watch it too this year.

1.Scrooge (A Christmas Carol)(1951)
Specials
1.Rifftrax: Magic Christmas Tree (Viewed on 12/5/1012) -This was a somewhat amusing Rifftrax. The movie being riffed as usual was awful. It had very little to do with Christmas (not until the last 20 minutes at least.) and the effects were laughable. The riffs were hit or miss. Some being really funny some just meh. The cartoon before the movie (The Shanty where Santy Lives) was pretty racist in some areas and the gang had some decent riffs for it. I did not care much for the commercials however and they were probably just filler to make the feature seem longer. Overall it was a pretty funny offering, but not the trio's best holiday outing (Rifftrax Live Shorts Spectacular was better).

Saturday Night Live Christmas
A great collection of Christmas sketches, but they got enough to do a volume 2; this one is missing Samberg and Timberlake's Dickinabox.

A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas
A new holiday classic! I definitely want to upgrade my 2D version to the 3D when I get a 3D TV.

They do a new updated one on TV every few years but only one other version has made it to DVD. In 2010 a DVD release happened for the version that was 'hosted' by the annoying Glily character. That one features 'Dick In A Box' as well as some other newer stuff like John Malkovich reading his “The Night Before Christmas”, Alec Baldwin's Glengarry Glen Ross Christmas Elf, Will Ferrell in "Mark Jensen’s Family Christmas” (the one with the spinning singer), Bill Hader in “Vincent Price’s Christmas Special" and others. The only problem is finding the blasted thing as I hear it was North America wide but other than a review based in Toronto I can only find evidence it that it was a US only type title. You could try Amazon, eBay, or other internet places I'm sure.Barbossa wrote:

Miracle on 34th Street (1994)
Not a bad remake, but I found it too perfect and a bit filled with too much "fluff". Too bad they couldn't get the rights to use Macy's for this one.
Thought I'd watch more by now, but I'm just too darn busy right now.
