Sofia the First
I'm asian, living in australia too. I don't really know how you sound asian unless your english is bad, and then you would sound like anyone who's english is bad.
It looks a bit different to usual cel-shading I've seen, but I haven't really seen any in awhile except for the Tales games series...

So she's more than a Peacock Princess with the Keys to the Kingdompap64 wrote:And there you go. Sofia the First is the spawn of Disney Princess Enchanted Tales.

Egh, my eardrums never did recover from hearing those songs.
But yes, I do agree with you there. What's more, she has her own world, unlike the character of Darby being placed into the hundred acre wood in My Friends Tigger & Pooh, so hopefully less upset fans.
As I'm beyond preschool and have no desire to be a princess, and not just because I'm male, I don't have any particular feelings about this show. Maybe the merchandise sales will fund other things.
Based on what? A few clips, a trailer and some screenshots?Sotiris wrote:Enchanted Tales was a thousand times better that Sofia the First.
I know that all of us have joked about Sofia the First, and we can all agree that there is a lot of corporate synergy involved in its creation. But I think it is unfair to judge it without any of us giving it a chance. Heck, even WE gave Disney Princess Enchanted Tales a chance first before we all joined in the spectacular burning of said DVD.
Plus, I honestly believe that this will be a sweet series for the intended target audience. So what if it is a ploy to push the Disney Princess franchise even further... Are we quick to forget that half of the shows we grew up with were done exclusively to sell a toy line? Oh sure now we know better and look back and realize they weren't the best, but as kids we didn't care, we just took in the atmosphere, the characters and the silly stories (and even then, some series are still highly regarded as the best of their respective era). Even the absolute best TV shows and series had massive cross marketing campaigns in the theme parks, fast food chain restaurants and such.
I get that this is making me sound like an apologist, which is even odd since even I joined in the cynical fun and called out some of the show's eventual flaws. But at the same time, jumping in and suddenly declaring the show to be the worst without its pilot movie even airing is silly. Can't we at least see the thing when it comes out, THEN burn it at the stake if it deserves it?

Yes, based on that. We don't need to subject ourselves to every single bad movie to confirm that it's bad. That's what trailers, clips, and reviews are for. We already know that the animation and the designs are awful. We already know what the plot is about. For me, that's enough. Even you have to admit that from at least a visual standpoint, Enchanted Tales looks better than Sofia the First.pap64 wrote:Based on what? A few clips, a trailer and some screenshots? Well, you are certainly entitled to be negatively predisposed towards it, though you must certainly at least watch a few episodes to confirm that it's bad. And saying that Enchanted Tales is a thousand times better at this stage just silly, even if it was an intentional hyperbole.
And no, we don't even have the reviews yet, which is the most important factor in judging something without watching. Trailers and clips are hardly indicative of a movie's quality. Judging something based on the 'plot' is also ridiculous, in that case, we wouldn't need to watch or read anything and just read the synopsis on Wikipedia.
Pardon me if I am being presumptuous but I suspect you are bashing it primarily because it is in CG animation. Also don't like the constant dismissiveness of anything new, this issue also applying to other forum members.

Perhaps in terms of storytelling but definitely not in terms of the visual component. That's self-evident by now.qindarka wrote:And saying that Enchanted Tales is a thousand times better at this stage just silly, even if it was an intentional hyperbole.
First, I'm not bashing it; I'm offering my opinion by pointing out the series' limitations. A negative critique does not constitute bashing. Second, I'm not critiquing it because it's CG but because it's bad CG.qindarka wrote:Pardon me if I am being presumptuous but I suspect you are bashing it primarily because it is in CG animation.
I can't speak for other members but I never dismiss something because it's "new". There must be specific reasons to dismiss or dislike something which have nothing to do with novelty.qindarka wrote:Also don't like the constant dismissiveness of anything new, this issue also applying to other forum members.

They've had a mess of talent working on this puppy (Larry Leker and Linda Miller, among numerous others), and until today I kept being told "The Channel hasn't announced the project! Keep your mouth shut."
Good corporate shill that I am, I kept my mouth shut. But now the Channel has announced the Sofia, so I can talk about it. This half-hour has been in development some little while. Everyone was leaning forward in their chairs, waiting for higher ups to greenlight it to series. And now it's finally happened.
I was told by crew that it hadn't been okayed for full series, people were waiting, waiting...

There's lot of musical numbers and lots of production. Also lots of demands for quality placed on the artists. Disney's had a goodly amount of production money riding on the project, so it must be a relief to the crew members to know that the maiden effort has paid off.
Source: http://animationguildblog.blogspot.com/ ... jects.htmlSteve Hulett wrote:Today I bopped around Disney TVA (Empire Center) where this show is in production. Princess Sofia was in development a long time. I remember when it was in script and production board phase in Glendale. The project was in the process of becoming for what seemed like forever. The crew working on it now is talented, tight-knit ... and happy the TV movie broke records when it aired last Fall.
But like most television projects, staffing and scheduling for Sofia are tight, so artists work like demons to hit deadlines. As one said today:
"I don't get out for long lunches, I can tell you. The show's demanding. There are music sequences, action sequences. And the environments are complex".

Walking through the Sofia unit a couple of days ago, the crew was happy that a large number of new episodes had been ordered, since it means they've got longer-term jobs.

Aurora didn't have to give food to her animal friends. She went berry picking and they could pick and eat some while she filled her basket. Snow White's animal friends unfortunately got food residue on the dwarfs' plates and silverware for their service.thelittleursula wrote:^
