Honor Hunter wrote:Those of you that are fans of "Prep & Landing" will be interested in knowing that the ratings for last Christmas' "Naughty Vs Nice" special weren't where ABC/Disney wanted them to go, and any plans for a third special have been put into a holding pattern as the Suits figure out what/where or even when/if it should go forward. It's possible that the advertising schedule didn't exactly set the mark for giving people the information for when it would be broadcast. So Burbank is factoring in merchandise, ratings and other elements to see if there is any viability in creating another special. I certainly hope so, because there was talk of taking all of them and combining the into a film with original footage along the lines of "Winnie the Pooh."

My kids (4 & 3) absolutely adore Prep & Landing and "Bad Prep & Landing" (aka Naughty vs. Nice). They must have watched them 50 times this past holiday season and even a few times since.

Yet, for as popular as these shorts are in our household, I'm not sure they're as mainstream as Disney would hope. Some people just don't watch that much television and these shorts kind of get buried in the everything else that's out there (i.e., like "Elf on the Shelf").

My brother in law and sister in law live in Southern California, have annual passes to Disneyland, etc., but have no kids, had no clue what Prep & Landing even was.

If Disney really wants this to take off as a franchise, I think they should create a 5 minute short (ala "Toy Story Hawaiian Holiday") and run it in front of Wreck it Ralph and any other holiday releases they may have. Shoot they could even run Operation Secret Santa. Then folks who might not otherwise pay attention during the endless drone of commercials about holiday specials would be aware of it.

Q: Do you know if there'll be another Prep & Landing special? Kevin & Stevie said they were working on another one before Naughty vs Nice had debuted but since it didn't get as high ratings as the first one, it may have been cancelled.

Steve Hulett: My understanding is that the Prep and Landing team is developing a feature.

If that's true, I'll be a little torn. I'm not sure I want a WDAS film to be Christmas-themed. I want to be able to watch my WDAS films any time of the year! :P

I think it will probably be a TV movie and not a theatrical one. If so, it won't be part of the canon.

That's intriguing. While in the past (1950s / 1960s) WDAS has produced animated material for television (until Walt Disney Television Animation and DisneyToon Studios came along), I don't think they've ever done a full-blown TV movie ... yet.

So shouldn't a TV movie be handled by Disney Television Animation? The only reason I see WDAS taking on such an assignment would be for their theatrical-quality animation (as seen in Prep and Landing). But why would Disney management want to create feature-quality animation film for TV, at WDAS? Don't they usually farm out TV CG animation to India or Korea these days?

A new special is coming, but it's not being made by WDAS.
Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol (22-minute special)
Produced by: Disney Television Animation
Executive Producers: Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton
Story Editor/Co-Producer: Colleen Evanson
Producer: Melissa Kurtz
Director: Shane Zalvin
Writer: Hilary Helding

In this new installment of the Emmy-winning holiday specials, the high-tech team of elves from the elite unit known as Prep and Landing is back! When their holiday missions go awry, Wayne thinks he is in big trouble with Santa, which opens a vault of merry mishaps from the past. It’s going to be hard to dig their way out of the snowbank this time in Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol. The special will debut next year.

The new special follows Christmas elves Lanny and Wayne, whose holiday mission goes awry, leaving Wayne convinced he’s in major trouble with Santa and accidentally revealing other merry mishaps. Magee, the North Pole Christmas Eve Command Center Coordinator and lover of eggnog lattes, brings along her pet arctic seal pup Nog to the office — kicking off endless hijinks.

Original voice cast reuniting for the special include Dave Foley as Wayne, a world-weary but dedicated Prep & Landing elf, alongside Sarah Chalke as Magee, the ambitious and eggnog latte-obsessed Command Center Coordinator, and Derek Richardson as Lanny, Wayne’s loyal friend and ever-agreeable partner. They will be joined by new cast members Manny Jacinto as Renato, the most sought-after massage therapist and holistic healer in the North Pole; Dulcé Sloan as Janice, a clerk at the North Pole Post Office; and Danny Pudi as Chef Geoff, the master chef at the Fruitcake Factory. Rounding out the cast is Christopher Swindle as The Big Guy, a.k.a. Santa.

Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton return to their roles as executive producers, and Colleen Evanson is co-producer and story editor. “Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol” is produced by Disney Television Animation, part of Disney Branded Television.

Fresh off the success of Season 2 of Monsters at Work, supervising director Stevie Wermers-Skelton and executive producer Kevin Deters were thrilled to finally be able to talk about their return to Santa’s Village with Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol. Having created the first two TV specials and shorts during their time at Walt Disney Animation Studios, Stevie and Kevin had a lot of ideas for additional stories starring Lanny, Wayne, and Magee. Unfortunately, Walt Disney Animation Studios seemed to have closed the book on the characters. But now that Stevie and Kevin are at Disney Television Animation, they were able to dust off some of their “tinsel” ideas.

Fresh off the announcement, Stevie and Kevin could share only a storyboard panel from the new special's introduction. Familiar imagery, like a closeup of the Gingerbread Man (GBM) device, was paired with a new gadget: An angel tree topper whose horn to hark doubles as a fire extinguisher, used to put out the flames of a burning snowman. Stevie and Kevin also confirmed that Dave Foley, Derek Richardson, and Sarah Chalke will reprise their roles as Lanny, Wayne, and Magee.

I'm surprised they even want to do a followup, the original wasnt that great was it?
But I'm glad they arent wasting the main studio on this. Or even the new canada studio.

Well, they’ve already done two. This will be the third one. And I know last year, Disney’s Hollywood Studios had a nighttime projection show themed to Prep and Landing. That suggests to me there is some audience interested in Prep and Landing, since Disney keeps returning to the well.

Maybe it does really well on Disney+ at Christmastime?

We Got new update and trailer.
"Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol will premiere at 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving (Nov. 27) on Disney Channel. The special will be made available on Disney+ the following day, and the elves will head to ABC’s shelves later in the season. And since Disney has roughly 1,000 platforms … that’s not all! Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol will also be a part of Freeform’s “25 Days of Christmas.”

The Snowball Protocol marks the fourth Prep & Landing holiday special; the series follows an elite organization of Christmas elves tasked with preparing (the “prep”) homes for Santa’s arrival (the “landing”). Dave Foley will reprise his role of Wayne, the “world-weary by dedicated” one. Also back in voice form are Sarah Chalke as Magee, the “ambitious and eggnog latte-obsessed” command center coordinator, and Derek Richardson as Lanny, Wayne’s “loyal friend and ever-agreeable partner.”

Newcomers include Manny Jacinto as Renato, the North Pole’s resident massage therapist and holistic healer; Dulcé Sloan as Janice, a North Pole post office clerk; and Danny Pudi as Chef Geoff, the master chef at the Fruitcake Factory. Christopher Swindle plays Santa."
