Fox News again? You gotta start looking at a few more sources, specifically one that didnt try to invent an Obama scandal based on a video taped in 1998 of him basically saying the same thing he said in that famous speech a couple months ago: the redistribution of wealth.dvdjunkie wrote:http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/09/ ... try-future

Fox news is no news.
How can anyone even TRY to use them to convince others? I mean, they would even write, Obama transformed into the devil and ate 1000 good white Christians.
You're saying all the time to the people you argue with, they are manipulated by the liberal media and use yourself Fox News as source? Really?? The one channel, which is known EVERYWHERE around the world for its biased, untrue and manipulative reporting.
All I can say is, we have actual unbiased reporting in Germany (as well as in the UK) and I would never consider to vote for the Republicans. The whole discussion is even that strange to me, that I wonder, what kind of society the US might be. The insane people of the GOP, calling themselves politicians, wouldn't even get near the German Bundestag. There is no party in our parliament that much conservative as the Republicans.
All they do is to make sure, that rich, white Christians have to pay less taxes, so that they can easily live from their interests without giving any of it back to the society.
...oh and they start somewhere in the world a war, in which they kill millions of innocent people, so that they can detract from their disastrous domestic policy.

If I waste my vote on a candidate that will definitely not win--and anyone other than a D or R will never win, regardless of whether they’re the better option--it only makes it more likely a Republican will. So, no.bradhig wrote:People don't vote Democrat or Republican. There are other choices on the ballet. The US electoral system is monopolized by them. The two parties need to be dissolved.

When Ross Perot ran for president the LIBERTARIAN candidate tried to get into the debate in St. Louis and he ended up on the ground getting beat by the police. After perot they changed it so someone needed like 14% of the vote to get in the debates. Making such changes and monopolizing the election system should be unconstitutional.Disney's Divinity wrote:If I waste my vote on a candidate that will definitely not win--and anyone other than a D or R will never win, regardless of whether they’re the better option--it only makes it more likely a Republican will. I'm in total agreement with bradhig. The two parties control the system, so it's impossible to vote for real change when when your only choices are hand picked by the people causing that need for change. The illusion put forth that there is a difference or even a lesser of two evils is the greatest illusion there ever was. Voting for either party is just prolonging real change.
In an ideal world, they'd abolish all parties and people would be left to vote purely on positions. Too bad that can never happen, since the two parties control everything.

While a large part of the process is illusion, there is a lesser of two evils when you compare this administration with the last. But I agree. Neither party can be a catalyst for any real change, otherwise the resistance to such change would be burning cities by now. That's really how afraid people are of actual change.jpanimation wrote:I'm in total agreement with bradhig. But we're not living in an ideal world and, yes, there is a lesser of two evils. Obama is not going to be pushing anti-gay or misogynistic laws like Mitt Romney, or starting another war with Libya or Egypt to find 2 or 3 terrorists who don't even live there--or just pissing off the rest of the world in general.jpanimation wrote:In an ideal world, they'd abolish all parties and people would be left to vote purely on positions. And wasting your time not voting in the hope that a mass rebellion of the two-party system will occur only makes things even worse than they would be anyway. You will never get the general population to do anything like that, so you have to learn to function inside a corrupt system.

This one got to me. It's from my brother, who is an insurance salesman in California. I think everyone should read this quote from His lowness Barack Obama. Read and comment:
The Quote of the Decade:
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."
~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006 Pass it on 'til eternity...

I remember during 2000-2008, childish insults like this about the President would be called treasonous by most Republicans. Guess they got past that drawback when Obama was elected.

Read again. He was talking about the fact that our government was throwing money into useless wars, cutting from food, education, and basic social services so we could effectively drill for oil in iraq, focring our version of "liberty" and "freedom" on others under the pretense of hunting terrorists and defending our country. Need I remind you that the big news 4 years ago was that Bush put us a trillion dollars in debt. You can argue all you want that Obama put us even further in debt, but his administration has at least managed to steer some of that spending to things that are actually good. The resistance he's met is overwhelming and that's why the "change" he promised hasnt happened.
Spending is a necessary evil. Any good businessman knows that, and we all know Disney doesnt, and I'd bet my life that McCain would spend unnecessarily on anti-gay rights promotions, the war that hasnt fully ended yet(he actually supported sending more troops rather than bringing them back), and tax cuts for the rich.
Our situation may not be much better than it was four years ago, whether we're better off or worse off is logically debatable among economists, but I believe that all the evidence says that our downwards spiral has slowed a bit.
Oh, and on another note, whether or not Fox News actually says the truth is irrelevant when they're the laughingstock of the news world. try another source.
and on yet another note: we keep hearing about how our democratic "liberals" would be the conservative party in any other democratic nation on earth.

I don't consider voting for someone I agree with as wasting my vote. That attitude you have that is shared by the majority of this nation - or is it fear - is one of the reasons the two parties thrive. People feel it's safer to vote for the candidate they don't agree with then for the one they do agree with because it would be a waste of a vote. How does reinforcing this mindset change anything?Disney's Divinity wrote:And wasting your time not voting in the hope that a mass rebellion of the two-party system will occur only makes things even worse than they would be anyway. Except I don't completely disagree with Obama--probably the only way I'd find a candidate who believed all the things I do is if I voted for myself.jpanimation wrote:I don't consider voting for someone I agree with as wasting my vote. Are you forgetting that the popular vote doesn't elect our President? It's the Electoral College, and they have the final say over who is going to be our next President.
Our voting rights are just that, the right to vote for the person of our choice, and nine times out of ten it will be the Electoral College who interprets these votes for the final result.
There are still a lot of people out there who think that if they don't vote for Obama they will be called racist and that is what needs to be taken out of this election.
Obama has been flip-flopping so much on this Libya thing it makes a lot of people wonder what exactly is the truth about it. With Obama in office we will never get the truth about anything.
Most of you are in college, are single, and don't have a lot of money, and are used to living like that. Look to those people who own businesses, work for a living, can't afford to "keep up with the Jones's" and are affected by the greed in Washington.
As a senior citizen I fear what is going to happen in the coming months as the end of the Federal tax cuts "cliff" gets closer and Congress and the President can't seem to be bothered about the fact that the country will be thrown into one of the deepest recessions ever if a budget is not passed by December 31, 2012.
Then, of course, there are those of you who are saying "Well December 21. 2012 is supposed to be the end of the world, so why should we care who gets elected, we won't be around to enjoy it."
Something else to think about. Wednesday night is the first of three planned Presidential Debates, and I defy all of you "haters" out there to watch this with an open mind and watch how Obama skirts around the questions and only answers those that make him look good. I will be watching to see how "truthful" each candidate can be. I am still not 'totally' decided on who is going to get my vote.
Oh, and I forgot to mention one thing:
I AM A REGISTERED DEMOCRAT!!!!!!

I am suddenly realizing that the majority of you are just "kids" here, and probably aren't old enough to vote and if you are old enough you are going with what is popular with your friends so you won't lose any after the election is over.
How many of you work for a living, have a family to support, and depend on a decent paycheck every week or two weeks? How many of you are saving for the future and have seen that savings dwindle in the past four years without any explanation? How many of you have lost over $100,000 in 401k benefits because of this 'free-spending' President? How many of you own or are buying your own home and have seen the cost of maintenance go up? How many of you still live at home and mooch off Mom and Dad because you think going to school is going to get you somewhere in the future? These are questions that you need to ask yourself - before you make a decision that will cost you even more in the future.
Watch and listen to the debate tonight. Even though there have been limitations (mostly by Obama) on what they can talk about, there is one debate coming in the next couple of weeks that will resemble a town hall meeting where the common folk get to ask the candidates their questions and hopefully we will get some correct and truthful answers.
Some of you may scoff that none of this has anything to do with you, but it has every bit to do with you whether you are 13, 18, 25, or over-the-hill like me.
I voted for Obama in 2008 and thought he would bring cnange to this country of ours, and he didn't and hasn't. Now he is talking about spending more of our money as a "hush" payment to Federal companies who are going to be down-sized after the election and he wants it kept quiet so those people can vote for him, so he has offered to pay almost $175 million in 'hush' money to the CEO's of those companies to help keep quiet just how many will be unemployed after the first of the year. And where does that money come from. We are already almost $17 trillion in debt and all he wants to do is add more without you having a say in it.
I only hope that as enthusiastic as you are about using me as your punching bag now, will admit to being wrong after the election when the Romney/Ryan ticket wins this very close election. I still am not totally sure that I am jumping parties, I have been a registered Democrat all my life, and for the first time I am actually starting to believe that I may have voted wrong in 2008.
Here's something for you to chew on before the debate tonight:
