Non-tin Disney Treasures?

I bought the Complete Goofy Disney Treasure for a pretty good price because it didn't come with the tin box. The guy told me that it was an official Disney release without the tin. (I didn't really care about the tin--I just want the DVDs.) I don't think it is a bootleg or import. The case, box art, discs, booklet, everything looks exactly like the other Treasure DVDs I own, and the discs play perfectly. I was wondering if this is true--was there another run of discs made that came without the tin?

The only thing that worries me is that there was no "collector's art" postcard inside (even though the back of the case says it does).

Does anyone know the story with this?

There was a run released through some major chains of untinned treasure sets. You could buy the whole 7-piece Treasure set in a box (untinned) for a reasonable price. Costco, I think it was. The Disney Store online is doing them now as well.

This COULD be from that run.

However, as for the lack of inserts, I cannot say - I only have a tinned copy.

It sounds like the seller just got this set from Costco or the online Disney Store and broke the set up and sold the DVDs separately. The DVDs should be the same as their "tinned" counterparts.

As far as no artwork, I'm not sure. I've heard of some people getting two certificates in their's. So, it's not unlikely that your DVD just didn't get the artwork put in at the factory.

My Cotsco set treasures didn't have any Litographs. That (and not having the tins of course) is the main difference. I think that also some of the booklet covers didn't have the faint Disney with Mickey siluette but it might have been the light hiting on them, I was drooling so much in candy colors when i got it to be legally declared insane so uummm.. yeah


The oher diference was of course the cardboard box with artwork to hold them all.
After long deliberation I've come to the conclusion I like this presentation better cus
A: You don't have to be opening/closing the tins to get to the discs
B: All the saturated color swatches against the silver grey background on the spine of the treasures look plain cool! So much I've taken out my other tin treasures and put them in between the treasure chest and the Universal Legacy Collection box as my main display of goodies
I keep glancing from time to time to it. Eye candy.

If you read the description on the Treasures (without tins) at the Disney Store site it clearly states that the collectors Litographs are not included

Thanks to everyone who replied--it is a great help.

While the tin would be cool (to match my other ones), I never plan to sell them; so I'm not worried about the resale value. In fact, I kind of agree with deathie mouse that they look cool enough without the tins.
