Lion King 2: First Time Ever?

Post by 2099net »

Why does the Lion King 3 DVD previews insist that the upcoming Special Edition of The Lion King 2 is the first time EVER it has been released on DVD? It's an all-out lie - it was released only 3 years ago when Warner were still distributing Disney DVDs along with the other UK "limited editions".

First we had Disney claiming the Special Edition of Pinocchio was it's first DVD release (when shops were still selling the old version!) and now the addition of the word "Ever" on the Lion King 2 promo which states 100% it has never been released on DVD before.

Well, it's the first time EVER that the Special Edition has been sold on DVD? :)

This isn't the first time this has happened, and it probably won't be the last.

I reckon there would be a good case for a corporation engaging in false or misleading conduct in trade or commerce here (our good ol' s52 of the TPA...). I'm assuming the UK has a similar law in that regard....

I guess technically they are right in both cases: Pinocchio was remastered, so it was the first time ever THAT version had been available; and LK 2 is a SE so that is being released for the first time. Even so, I think it is still quite misleading and, as I said, there may be a case against them. If anyone could be bothered. :)

it wouldnt sell much if the ads would say: "we've released it before, but we'll just do it again, because we need your money!" .... lets just not think about Disney's stupid actions lately...gives you a headache!

To be fair, the Pinocchio ads never had the qualifier "Ever" but it just seems silly to state "for the first time ever" for the Lion King 2. After all, any new DVD - brand new or a re-release is the first time ever released on DVD.

I think it's quite clearly a case of false advertising and if I'm feeling bored or vindictive I may bring it up with the ASA (Advertising Standards Agency).

Right. I get a DVD magazine and there, taking up a fill page is an advert for THE LION KING II: SIMBA'S PRIDE.

And there, taking up about 11cm by 4cm are the words "FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER ON DISNEY DVD 28TH JUNE"

No. No. No. No. No.

Don't be sad, we get the same release as the US without a few games! In Europe all the releases are only 1 disc :)

Australia gets the same single disc treatment. But really, we are only missing out on the "games" and I don't consider that a huge loss...
