Dory did steal the spotlight in the original movie in a good way. Maybe a story on how she gained her memory problems ?PatrickvD wrote:I would love a Dory-focused movie actually. More of a spin-off I guess.

Agreed. While I feel she might be best left as the comedic relief, I love her character and I don't think she's gotten old at all. She's far and away most people's favorite character in the movie.atlanticaunderthesea wrote:Really ? Dory is an extremely popular character I thought .... To me, she was a stand out character in the movie.
I still think it's going to be called Finding Dory and will revolve around her memory loss and how Nemo is now set out to find her.. Which,in itself may still prove interesting. That is the easiest route to take.. But at least there are no cars involved and the scenery will be much nicer as opposed to the desolated planet earth Wall-E called home. I have to say, after Cars 2 I find that to be Pixar's weakest movie, storywise, in terms of look.. It just doesn't lent itself for repeat viewing for me. I know the premise is for the planet to look that way.. Still it bother's me
When it comes to brains, I got the lion-share,
but when it comes to bruth strength, I'm afraid I'm at the shallow end of the gene pool

While I do think Dory was one of the only good things about FN, I don't think she could carry a movie either.qindarka wrote:Bad idea I think. Dory's shtick got old very quickly and I doubt she could carry a movie.

There you have it, people.
Source: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/mo ... ory?page=2Andrew Stanton's next directing project will be a sequel to "Finding Nemo."
"What was immediately on the list was writing a second 'Carter' movie," he said. When that went away, everything slid up. I know I'll be accused by more sarcastic people that it's a reaction to 'Carter' not doing well, but only in its timing, but not in its conceit."
i've got a title for it (and free cyber mickey ice cream bar if you catch the reference in it)

Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

Can I get my ice cream bar now?
But all kidding aside, I think it is unfair to fully accuse Andrew Stanton of John Carter's failure. Yeah, he may have directed the film and wrote parts of it, but he wasn't the only person involved in the project. The material he was working with just simply wasn't strong enough for him to create something big out of it.
I mean, considering his two movies: Finding Nemo and Wall-E. Both were original stories heavily inspired by real life situations lived by the director and thus were blessed with both inspired emotional storytelling and a more personal vision for its characters and setting. John Carter, on the other hand, was a pulp fiction book based heavily on classic literally tropes. Stanton had a handicap right there: it was hard for anyone to make an already shallow story into something more meaningful.
Stanton may have directed the whole piece, but I certainly wouldn't place the WHOLE blame on him. Why punish HIM when there were other producers and writers involved? Maybe I an ignorant and naive of how the whole thing came to be, but as much as I heavily disliked John Carter (more like YAWN Carter, am I right?
As for Finding Nemo 2, I know the mentality is to write it off because it is a sequel, and considering how awful Cars 2 was in the long run, I don't blame anyone for being a little cynical on the matter. But for me, I am willing to give them a chance at a sequel if it proves to be good. Plus, they have already announced several original projects to be released on the next few years (providing they don't suffer the same fate as Newt knock on wood), so I am not THAT worried that Pixar has gone into sequelitis mode (which ironically is what people wanted them to do in the first place, Ellen DeGeneres included
I SERIOUSLY doubt that is the case.Semaj wrote:It is if nobody wants one.SWillie! wrote:I would hardly call making a sequel to one of the most successful animated films of all time a "punishment".
I remember when Finding Nemo came out, and the very first thing people wanted was a sequel. People wouldn't stop talking about how awesome the characters were, they couldn't get enough of them and wanted more. Same thing with Monsters Inc.
Now, this was back when Toy Story 2 came out and blew people away by how good it was, and managed to be even better than the first movie (and the third movie, in turn, proved to be better than the two of them in their eyes). So the idea of a Finding Nemo 2 was not only a possibility but a welcomed one because of how fantastic Toy Story 2 one.
Nowadays, the main reason are shunning the idea away is because of Cars 2, which was the lone example of Pixar at its weakest. So now we are getting sequels (or prequel in Monsters University's case) to two movies that people adored, and not we don't want them? OK, I get the concern that Pixar might be too reliant on their proven franchises and not enough on their own original ideas. But at the same time, we are getting what we wished for years ago, and now it's an issue? Pixar doesn't even get the benefit of the doubt.
Seriously, some fans are fidgety as to what they want out of movie studios
You're highly deluded there. The only people who don't want one are the cynical, hardcore fans that whine about any talk of a sequel to anything. On the other hand, the other 99% of people who loved Finding Nemo will be More than happy to learn about this. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this put up Toy Story 3 numbers.Semaj wrote:It is if nobody wants one.SWillie! wrote:I would hardly call making a sequel to one of the most successful animated films of all time a "punishment".
