Ok, the colors on the PE looks more dull than I remember...

However I think a lot of the old VHS caps we see have brighter colors than the DVD... I think that might actually be a flaw of the VHS format and not that the restorations have become worse... I think it could be that the VHS format didn't have the same color depth as the formats of today... I don't think can be used as proof of original colors... I'm not just talking about the Peter Pan release but all their titles...

I also believe VHS is not a good indicator of how the films "should look". The restorations they could do back then were very limited as well, not using the original film prints etc.

I do, however, take issue and become suspicious when heavy, out-of-the-blue colour alterations happen, like the

Cinderella - Golden bedroom becoming light brown
ImageImage

Aristocats - coat colour change

the bard in Sleeping Beauty etc etc

^yeah I see that as a possible issue. While it doesnt really harm the background, the chair and parts of the floor are altered too much.

edit: actually looking again, the background loses significant depth and contrast by comparison.

So is it easier/cheaper for Disney to do the type of restoring they do?

It's certainly a less intelligent, no-brainer manner of restoration. Not cheaper or correct.

Haha, very good

This will indeed be a poop release with no promotion then I guess. Tied in to Secret of the Wings maybe ? Not sure if that has been given a release date yet.

I bet your right! Whilst I am very excited to add this much loved classic to my Blu-Ray collection if the latest Disney releases are anything to go buy it will not receive the treatment it deserves
I love The Little Mermaid and Ariel

Thank you for the release link.

This really will have no promotion, and will be tied in to the fourth Tink film, much as the first Tink film was to Peter's Platinum.

And it isn't a Diamond either! Depressing.

You mean, much as the first Tink film was supposed to be tied in with the Peter Pan Platinum Edition. ;)

Regarding the Diamond Edition, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest, if The Little Mermaid turns out to be the only remaining release.

^ Yup and the sequel and prequel will be paired together; plus a undersea themed collection set for everything to go in it.

Aladdin will also get the snob and just be a lousy " here's the movie I guess.... "

I imagine a deciding factor in removing Peter Pan from the Diamond Edition line-up was a lack of desire on Disney's part to produce new bonus features.

Is it being billed as anything at all ? Or a 'Special Edition' ?

The cover art for the UK release is out. It's the same as the German one. :(
