Oh, no! No! No! NOOOOOO! this is entirely unacceptable. What has happened to Disney???? First, they show no interest in DVDs (remember the Snow White situation in 2009?), then they release 1-disc Diamond Editions, when they should be 2-disc releases (remember Bambi, The Lion King and Lady and the Tramp). Then, they decide that Blu-ray discs don't deserve disc artwork like the DVDs' situation and finally, the cherry on top of the cake, they don't do new restorations??????? Excuse my language, but WTF, Disney????
Sicoe6256, I'm afraid this is not a sudden decision on Disney's part. When they restored the film back in 2005 (for the Platinum Edition), they obviously did so with the intention of getting the most out of their investment, and not having to restore the film again in a matter of a (mere) 6 years. Of course, had they not screwed up the colours in 2005, then that restoration would have been perfectly dazzling now, in 2012, despite the 7 year gap.
Disney no doubt are aware of the fans' reception of the 2005 restoration, but seeing as we - the fans (and movie buffs) - are not the primary market for their animated films, they clearly decided that it's not worth redoing Cinderella's restoration, or at least correcting the old one, as best they could.
One more thing, it should be noted that Lowry Digital, who did the 2005 restoration, are not "horrible, villianous people" for restoring Cinderella that way. Undoubtedly, the restoration was done with a lot of love and dedication (which shows, given the immaculate image on the last DVD), but some mistakes were made, as in the choice of colours, and some undisciplined DNR.
I wouldn't be surprised if the people who worked on that restoration wouldn't mind doing Cinderella again, and this time doing a better job.
Until that happens, we'll have to be content with the current Blu-ray, which, in all fairness will not be terrible, video quality-wise. Far more films have been treated worse on DVD and Blu-ray, I'm sure.

I find that strange, because in 2011, Alice in Wonderland got a new Blu-ray release (in spite of having a new DVD release in 2010), and that got a new restoration. Why would they do that in AiW's case and not Cinderella's? Especially when Cinderella is a Diamond Edition. And Disney has the necessary resources to produce a new restoration for the film. Thy make millions of dollars annually, from their theme parks, or films or anything else. I'm not saying I don't like the old restoration, but that was okay, 7 years ago.

Maybe cause Alice had an even older restoration and it was time to do another one?
Just seen the play.com TV spot for the Blu release, and it had the narration "the worlds most beloved Princess" which was quite cool.....BUT it had some random woman playing Cinderella !!! Not Jennifer Hale or Illene.....someone I have never heard play Cindy before. Has anyone else seen/heard this pointless change?

The 2010 DVD release, which was essentially just put out to cash-in on the success of Tim Burton's version, re-used the older Masterpiece Edition transfer from 2004 (yes, it was that much of a hurried release). As far as I'm aware, the 2004 transfer was also a digital master, but it wasn't as thorough as some of the later restorations, and I doubt it was produced with HD in mind. I think it was therefore considered worthy of yet another restoration.
Will the UK and the US release of Cinderella have the same transfer? I noticed the Trilogy set is around $30 shipped from Amazon UK. Can't find out for sure if its Region Free, but that's a lot cheaper than the US release... Although you don't get the DVD copies with the UK release.
Nevermind... That's for the DVD set. The Blu-ray set is around $40.

No we don't get double play on Disney no more
Good lord, I didn't even notice that ! And it is still bloody expensive, even though we are one disc down ! Normally Disney Blu debuts to around £16/£17 in first week of release in HMV, Cindy is £20 !
atlantica, I'm actually considering buying the US Aristocats BD, rather than the UK release, for the extra DVD.
Do you think next November's Disney BOGOF (Europe) will include the new Aristocats and 101 Dalmatians UK BDs? If so, it'll be worth waiting until then to get them.

Zavvi have bumped up their price too, only on Sunday (when it was still available to pre-order) it was £12.99 now it's £20.95.

That's what I plan on doing. Disney UK have BOGOF offers every 6 months; one in Spring and one in Autumn. In 2011 the Spring offer was in April and the Autumn was in October, this year the offer started in March (a month earlier than last year) so I have an inkling that the next could actually be some time in September. Therefore I doubt 101 Dalmatians will be in it or Cinderella as they are fairly new releases (just like Lady and the Tramp; at the time of the Spring 2012 offer it wasn't included as it was still a fairly new release, only a month or two old). I'm confident the May releases (The Fox and the Hound, Pocahontas & Tarzan) will be in it as well as the new Pinocchio summer release, so hopefully The Aristocats will too *fingers crossed*. Even if it doesn't make this one I'll wait until the next. As long as I get them before they return to the vault, I don't care about getting them right away or on the day of release, I'd rather be patient and save myself some money. I mean, why pay £20 each for 2 Blu-Rays when I can get them together for that price... Good things come to those who wait, as they say. The only time I might get a release within close proximity of release day is if it has a slipcover as you can't get them after the bulk of the early batch have sold.
And I have also ordered it from Amazon instead as it was just too expensive otherwise. Especially with the DVD disc missing. I'm glad someone pointed that out; otherwise I wouldn't have noticed!
