Yet another big release for a movie I haven't seen but want to. I need to get up-to-speed w/ my recent Disney live-action. I've heard nothing but good things about this from friends, though, so I have a feeling I'll like it and want to purchase. Plus, it's Julie Andrews

According to DVDFile, the DVD also contains a still gallery and theatrical trailers, neither of which were on the old DVD. I'm not too sure about the inclusion of trailers since it seems DVDFile adds trailers to their specs by default, but the still gallery intrigues me.
They should add some more deleted scenes for this release. I know that there are more because one of the trailors includes Lana saying "Have you seen her hair?" talking about Mia. It is probably even on the trailors included in this release. Although, maybe just that one line was cut, making it not worth putting the whole scene on the DVD.
I'm currently watching and reviewing every Disney film in chronological order. You can follow along at my blog, The Disney Films, and also follow me on Twitter.
Yeah, I think there's more footage cut that wasn't put on the DVD because they might've simply been unused shots rather than whole scenes. For example, I distinctly remember a shot in the trailer of Mia and Lilly sticking their torsos out of the limo's sunroof and dancing. This isn't in the film nor in the deleted scenes.
Here's the coverart for the DVD (it looks squashed, but that's most likely the scan rather than the art itself):
Anne Hathaway doesn't look like herself...I think this is the first Disney DVD to be called a Collector's Edition (sorry, "Set") and Special Edition at the same time.
The Princess Diaries was the first DVD I ever bought and at the time I too, only liked Full Frame DVDs. I've since seen the light and now buy only Widescreen DVDs. I've been planning on buying another copy of the movie in Widescreen but now I'll just wait for this.
Curious that they moved the "making of" featurette to Disc One with the fullscreen transfer. I guess they figured since most of the DVD's contents are of substance, it can't all be crammed on Disc Two with the widescreen transfer, so they moved the featurette (which is the longest video feature, running at about 25 minutes).
I think you should just stick with what you have. The only new features on this DVD are a featurette on real life princesses, outtakes and, according to some sources, a gallery (though I don't see it in the menu pics). There's also a sneak peek at the sequel, but that's not that big of a deal, especially considering that the sequel comes out about 2 weeks after this DVD. Your current DVD is all you need.
Excellent I will pick up this one as well as Hidalgo on August 3!
When I first saw The Princess Diaries I fell in love with the movie. I haven't seen Hidalgo yet but I know it will be a great film. I can't wait to watch The Princess Diaries 2 at the theater!!!

w00t! I loved the Princess Diarys. That was a great movie! I'm glad it's soming out in a special 2-disc set. I'm gonna try and get it, but I probably won't because I have no money and I want those Sonic Plushies and that Tablet for the computer............*sighs*
Wow I almost wished that my friend would not have bought me the DVD for Christmas so that I could be able to buy the 2 disc special I love the Princess Diaries and cant wait to see the sequal in theaters. YaY!!!
I've since righted my wrong and seen the movie. I wish the menu wasn't so pink and girly, but sigh, demographics are what they are. Nonetheless, I loved the movie and will buy it.
Woot, a convert! Glad to know you loved the film, Aaron. I agree that the preteen girl demographic for this movie is a bit exaggerated by Disney. Every guy I know who's seen this movie has liked it, and it really isn't a chick flick at all (though Disney's promotional campaign made it appear that way by having its trailers and tv spots be mostly made of the princessy footage from the end).
Yeah, and then there's this business of calling the 2nd one "royally romantic." Maybe it will be, but I didn't think the first was much of a romantic comedy. I mean, sure, it had its romance (what movie doesn't?), but that wasn't the focus.
I saw the first one on the Disney Channel a few weeks ago. I thought it was very funny and enjoyable. I had a chance to see it when it was first on VHS b/c my cousin had it, but I chose to play video games instead. I'm glad I've finally gotten to see it because it is a very good movie. I don't know if I'll get the DVD since Three Musketeers will come out a few weeks after.
