Disney Logo Collection Thread

Post by SWillie! »

Hey all - so, I've recently been interested in the idea of logo branding. Someone pointed out at some point that since the 90s, Disney's films have all received actual logos that are then used for each release thereafter. Prior to that, the logos were all over the place, using generic fonts and changing all the time.

I like the more modern approach, where films have been branded with their specific logo. I'd like to use this thread to collect those logos in high quality. While I can find some through a simple image search, I'll need some help for some of the less-known films. I'd like to get as high quality as possible (at least 500 pixels wide). Where possible, I would like to have the logos on a plain white or black background, like the images used on disneyanimation.com for the recent films. This way they are more easily used in design projects.

For the earlier films, I'm interested to hear everyone's input on which logo might be the "definitive" logo for that film, were it to be released for the first time today. For instance, while Bambi has had plenty of "logos" and fonts over the years, I would personally consider the loopy logo that appears in the actual title screen of the film, and was more recently used for the Bambi II logo. Consider how might they be updated to fit today's design standards?

I'd like to keep this thread updated, and the idea is to have a full list of a single definitive logo for each film. So, if you have any logos stored on your computer or know of any great sites to find high quality logos for any films that are missing, please share!

This is awesome! I love this. They are all iconic in their on way. I recently took a typography class and I have a new found appreciation for logos, fonts, and their effectiveness. Can't wait to see all of them once they've been gathered.

I am glad they now stick with consistency through their logos; though a few have been altered for home release I think ? Cinderella springs to mind.

Only a few logos are showing on my comp though ?

Whatever fonts were featured in the earlier films' title cards can be thought of as their official logos.

Didn't know that each new film had their own logo, though looking back at some of the earlier film's re-release trailers (mostly Snow White's), I can see how it would make sense to have one.

They are not all there yet. This thread will be a continuous work in progress. I've just listed the WDAS and Pixar films as placeholders.

For the most part, I agree. Films like Bambi, Pinocchio, and Dumbo have title cards that also work great as logos. But for some films, the actual title card is really not that great, and I feel later releases used a logo that better embodies the film. Most of the films in the 60s and 70s used horribly bland fonts for the title card, and I think newer logos should be considered.

I love this idea. I'm a logo nut myself. I shall go through what I have and share in the next couple of days (I am actually busy at the moment creating original logos for my job, lol)

Great topic, I'll be sure to check it often. I wrote a bit about Cinderella's logos throughout the years in another thread as I find this whole concept of unique title art fascinating when done right (like Pixar does with their films) and it annoys me that Disney keeps changing logos for some of their films. Thanks for starting the thread!

Thanks guys! Glad to hear you all like the idea!

universALLove, those are great! Do you know where you got them from? I'll use those ones for now and if we can find higher resolution I'll replace them.

So for Beauty and the Beast - who prefers this one and who prefers the more commonly used gold one, as seen on the cover of the Diamond edition? I personally like the title screen one. I feel it embodies the film more.

This is a great thread. While I have not worked on it for a while, this will be very useful for future work on my custom DVD/ Blu-ray covers.

I've updated with several new logos over the past couple hours, including Bambi, Aladdin, and the ones submitted by universALLove.

Thanks again universALLove!

As for Cinderella, I'd like to hear what everyone thinks. There are a number of different Cinderella logos throughout the years, and in my personal opinion the one on the title card from the film doesn't best represent the film. If you had to pick ONE logo that were to be used for Cinderella from now on, what would it be? Would you prefer a new logo, something that hasn't been done yet?

Here are some of the logos that have been used:

The gold one is classier, more stylish and more somber, IMO. The title screen one, while gorgeous and more elaborate and lavish, is a bit flashy and flamboyant (or should I say baroque), which may seem gaudy and kitschy at times and I can't see it really working on home video covers - unless it's structured similarly to the gold one (horizontally, Beauty and the BEAST) and recolored differently.

So, my vote goes to this one:

Btw, there's also a third logo, similar to the original one, but slightly different:

I'd stick to the PE one. Either that, or the '90s logo. Anything but the cheap-looking current one.

^^Agree with Mooky on the gold BaTB logo... They have used that logo for several releases now, and the other one has only been used as the title card...

As for the cinderella one, when I think of a Cinderella logo I think of the one used for the one used on the PE and DE. It was also used on some VHS releases as well. Even though it has varied slightly that seems to be the logo Disney has stuck with for the past two decades or so... I prefer the PE one to the DE one though as I find it more balanced.
