NEW TREASURE: Disney's True Life Adventures.

Post by interactivemojo »

I'm wondering how many of you guys remember and (or) liked Disney's True Life Adventures. I started trying to collect them in the early '90's when they had a cataloge release, they weren't promoted too much and drifted out of site after a while and some were extremely hard to find.
For those who aren't familar with these little gems, Disney's True-Life Adventures were a series of "think Discovery Channel here" excillent Wildlife films with extensive nature footage and usually were quite educational, I think some of these might have made it into Disney's Magical World of Color when it was on TV and also shone some on The Disney Channel back when they actually showed Disney programming.
Anyway let me know what you guys think by voting on the poll below.
If you want it, I've got it. Need Disney Treasures, Truelife and some series email me for my list.

Yup, I think it is confirmed along with more B & W Mickey; some Pluto and some MM Club (the last one doesn't interest me at all, as there are far more interesting theatrical releases to get through before we start going through those).

Should be really good though (especially if they have the one where the lemmings were intentionally lead to their deaths!).

It's not at the top of my list (assorted shorts would be there), but I think it'd be an important addition.

The question has always been, which ones will be included in the set? I e-mailed Jerry Beck, who I think was the first to announce the next wave of tins at the public showing of war shorts. He said that he didn't know which ones would be included, so it's anybody's guess. There are 6 features and 7 shorts, which obviously won't fit on 2 DVDs.

I have the features on a very dead format that probably nobody has heard of, VHD videodiscs. I don't know if they are considered collector's items, but I do like the artwork:<p><img border="0" src="http://www.geocities.com/disney_laserdiscs/vhd/jcv.jpg" alt="Jungle Cat" width="503" height="313"></p>
<p><img border="0" src="http://www.geocities.com/disney_laserdiscs/vhd/solv.jpg" alt="Secrets Of Life" width="502" height="309"></p>

There are six ~70 min features (1953-59) and seven ~30 min "shorts" or "featurettes" (1948-53). Those who have expressed an opinion as far as I know have suggested a complete collection of the short films - which should amount to about 220 minutes + extras. Could be all right for one set I guess, even though I'd like to see a couple of the earliest features.

My wish and hope is that they only include the short subjects on this Treasure to keep consistance.
And that they release the features on DVD in conjunction with the release of this Treasure.

It was actually somebody else who was the first to announce it but I won't say who it was.

A good suggestion I've heard is to have one two-disc volume that contains three full-length adventures and three to four shorts and then another wave of Disney Treasures could have a second and final volume consisting of the remaining three full-length adventures and the remaining short features.

You could argue that this was not an "official" announcement but it was straight from the mouth of the person responsible for the Disney Treasures.

He says it's all of S1 of the MMC(which can't be true)

Also, why is it "a Pluto set" and not the complete Pluto set?

I only reported what I heard. You are getting very technical. "A Pluto set" could very well mean "the complete Pluto." I don't know. And there's nothing wrong with saying "A Mickey Mouse set (probably the first season)." At least we know one of the Treasures will be about Pluto and one will be about the Mickey Mouse Club. We weren't at a point in time where he could give every single detail about all four volumes. But the day will come when we will know more about each one. Just be patient.

One thing I’m wondering, is it hypocritical not to get TLA? Cause I have Tomorrowland just for the sake of having it  I don’t think it’s that great or anything

Any reason why we couldn't get possible a couple of volumes of True Life Adventures in the Treasures series? A few features and a few shorts in each volume?

Several people have mentioned that and I personally think it's a good idea. We have to wait and see what's going to actually happen.

Yes, you would be totally hypocritical.

I don't know why people don't seem to like Tomorrowland. All of the episodes are extremely well done and entertaining, and the Epcot short is amazing. I love these old TV shows. They are much more interesting than Davy Crockett IMO.
