The 2003 DVD is the one Disney restoration that I find most successful.

clarity vs. color
Can we sometimes have TOO much clarity? Who looks good with a magnifying glass up to their face in florescent light?
I think with animation - and the size of the actual canvas - there is a place where you're going to reach the point of diminishing returns. Color is SO important to these films, and it looks so much like they are changing things.
BTW - I posted at the Home Theater Forum, and there are some interesting comments from that site as well as a sneak peak at some CINDERELLA pics.

I have the widescreen version on my VCD as well as the full screen version on VHS tape. The widescreen version would be a perfect fit for HD TV. The VHS Masterpiece edition is shown here.lord-of-sith wrote:Awesome caps and comparisons drsd2kill. The old VHS pan&scan caps make me want to barf.
They had the THX Certified logo on every Masterpiece edition VHS tapes along with "Fun & Fancy Free", "Bambi", "Lady and the Tramp" and many other VHS Masterpiece tapes. For those of you who had every Disney Masterpiece VHS tapes, the THX logo was a masterpiece. Here it is.

Re: Future comparisons
I can't wait to see that one. I've never actually sat down and compared the versions to that movie. Everyone says the color palette greatly differs in the Lowry restoration, so it would be nice to see it.drsd2kill wrote:CINDERELLA

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ "Elizabeth Taylor"
Katy Perry ~ "bandaid"
Meghan Trainor ~ "Still Don't Care"
I'm sorry you only have the THX VHS release of SLEEPING BEAUTY. VHS blown up to HDTV proportions is horrible! Even Laserdisc blown up to HDTV is a major compromise from anamorphic widescreen (compare the widescreen Laserdisc and DVD shots from SB - anamorphic enhancement combined with DVD higher resolution can't compare for sharpness and detail).

Here is a very nice comparison between all 4 versions

You could always use the actual image location instead of the page location. For example:Sicoe6256 wrote:Okay...how can i put the photo in here so that anyone could see it?Marce82 wrote:I tried that link...it doesnt work

Do you by any chance know what characters Floyd animated? I believe in the 1960s his role at the studio had changed. I don't think he was doing actual animation by then.Disney Duster wrote:Floyd Norman, who animated on Sleeping Beauty, said the 2008 restoration was really good and made the film almost exactly as it should be.
But I'm really curious to know what he animated. I'm not even sure whether he was a key animator or an assistant or inbetweener.

Okay Floyd Norman was an inbetweener, a breakdown artist, then an assistant animator. The first thing he animated was the lid of a trunk one of the fairies closes. He animated a young woman and lots of townspeople in "The Legend of Wind Wagon Smith". He animated some of Robin Hood in the climactic battle scene of the film, but still not enough to get a credit in the film credits. But he was a full animator by then. Then Walt Disney suggested he should be a story man instead of an animator and he changed his career to that. But he still loves (traditional) animation!
