I think they might be able to use Silver Samurai, since in the past, Marvel was able to use Wolverine and other X-Men-related characters in the "Hulk vs." feature, but weren't able to use the Silver Surfer in "Planet Hulk", so I think Fox's deal with the X-Men excludes animation, but their FF contract doesn't.

They can't use Silver Samurai because Fox holds the theatrical rights to the character through the X-Men universe. In fact, Fox is using Silver Samurai in the upcoming film The Wolverine. Disney's Big Hero 6 will be a theatrical release. It's irrelevant if the medium is animation or live-action. Disney/Marvel still holds the rights to these characters for TV, direct-to-video, and online projects.

Damn Sotiris, just when In was trying to forget about Big Hero 6, this gets announced! We have yet to see anything for Frozen, now this! Very curious to see how this turns out! That guy is right, it is a exciting time at WDAS!

Ummm we haven't seen anything for this though?!?! Both Frozen and BH6 have had tweets?!?! But nothing else. Which isn't unexpected as Disney keeps their cards close to their chests! It would be different if we saw actual art for BH6 and not Frozen, but that's not the case.

Steve Hulett: At Walt Disney Animation Studios, staff continues to be hired for Frozen, with a chosen few laboring on Big Hero Six, scheduled to swing into production later in the year. It will overlap with Frozen.

Q: How are things going on Big Hero 6? You said once you've seen boards. Have you seen the character designs?

Steve Hulett: I've seen some environments, (nice looking) and a few other bits and pieces. I try and avoid peeking, but sometimes my eyeballs get exposed to proprietary work.

Great news for Big Hero 6! Really looking foward to this film, a little more than Frozen even. As for it's release date, it's clear it will be in November 2014. Pixar has "The Good Dinosuar" coming out that may, while 2 live-action Marvel films will be released: Captain America The Winter Solider in April/Spring, Guardians of the Galaxy in August/Summer, so Big Hero 6 should be out that November/Winter! If it isn't out in 2014, that will be the 1st time since 2006 that Disney Animation will go a whole year without an animated feature! And I can't see that happening, not in the modern CGI era whlie their rivals like DreamWorks has 3 films coming in 2014: Me & my Shadow/March, How to train you Dragon 2/June & Happy Smek Day/November.

A November 2014 release date for Big Hero 6! I've been saying that for quite sometime, no surprize there! I can't wait til next simmer's Comic Con & D23 to see the 1st images! This is a Marvel property, so they clearly won't take long to promote it, especially since this is an obscure Marvel franchise. That means Dreamworks Happy Smek Day will be out in late Nov 2014. So Disney & Dreamworks are ready for November battle for BO $$$ for the next 3yrs:

2012: Disney's Wreck-it Ralph vs. Dreamwork's Rise of the Guadians
2013: Disney's Frozen vs. Dreamwork's Mr. Peabody & Sherman
2014: Disney's Big Hero 6 vs. Dreamwork's Happy Smek Day

Let the battle begin, Go Disney!

I don't think the guys at DreamWorks even consider WDAS formidable competition. To them, the guys at the hat building are still playing catch-up.

Maybe with Wreck-It Ralph, WDAS will put an end to that, and finally get into the VIP circle currently populated by Pixar, DreamWorks, Blue Sky, and most recently, Sony.

Mostly, yes.

I've long wondered how the average Joe percieves WDAS these days. Are people aware that the studio that made Tangled is the same studio that made Beauty and the Beast? Do they know that it's independent from Pixar? Do they know it still exists, and didn't sink with Home on the Range?

I doubt it. Most people aren't really aware of WDAS, they just lump everything under Disney. So you get people complaining that Disney doesn't make animated movies anymore, just tween shows. Also not sure that Home on the Range is well-known enough be generally perceived to be a sinking point.

You hit the nail on its head.

For most people:

1. DreamWorks Animation films are made by DreamWorks Animation. (correct)
2. Pixar animated films are made by Pixar Animation Studios. (correct)
3. Blue Sky animated films are made by Blue Sky Studios. (correct)
4. Disney Animation films are made by "Disney", as in the Walt Disney Company. (incorrect - the artists and film-makers that make the WDAS films have little say what goes on in the rest of the company, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, they were hardly ever, or never involved in the production of the direct-to-video sequels, good or bad. Unfortunately, WDAS is the only studio that had to pay for the egregious errors the rest of the company was making as most people thought (and still think) that the theatrical (WDAS) films and the DTV movies are made by the same creative group.

You'd think the new Steamboat Willie logo, introduced with Meet the Robinsons, would help people differentiate between WDAS and the rest of the company.

I forgot if it been mention or not, but what medium is this movie going to be made as? : CGI or hand drawn? Considering this is marvel movie, They usually do their animation productions in hand drawn style. I don't think they have ever done one in CGI.
