There are no words to describe the horror of this.

My thoughts are with the Families of the victims as they deal with pain I couldn't begin to imagine. Image

It hit close to home...home state...at a theater that I've been to multiple times in the past. My heart goes out to family and friends of the victims.

The poor victims and their families! I was browsing Tumblr earlier today and found a post made by a friend of a woman named Rebecca Wingo who was killed in the shootout. The friend said Rebecca was a mother of two little girls. The poor dears.

I hope the cops trying to get into the guy's booby-trapped apartment don't get killed by a bomb(s).

My thoughts and condolences are with the familees of the victims who have lost their lives in the most ruthless and senseless way imaginable and to those who were injured and will now have to live with the scars of this tragedy, both physically and mentally. I really hope that the evil and deranged lunatic responsible for this gets exactly what is coming to him.

And another thing that disgusts me about all of this was the fact that this guy called himself the Joker! :x

Disgraceful... :(

Like many others, I hope this guy gets what is coming to him! :x :(

Last I heard, that part is just a rumor.

And even if it was true, The real Joker would of done that too.

I hope so. It's disgraceful.

But the thing is: The Joker is a beloved Batman villain(as odd as that sounds). For someone to go in, shoot all these people in the theater, and refer to themselves as the Joker-- Who is a very popular Batman villain-- Is in extremely poor taste. :(

Plus, the Joker's hair was green.

Nitpicks aside, I cannot take any of the politicians' condolences seriously. Even back when Gabrielle Giffords was almost killed, none of them even tried to talk about gun control, and some groups have even suggested making guns EASIER to acquire.

They say they're afraid of taking peoples' freedoms away, but they obviously had no problem with that at airports after 9/11.

Drugs are illegal and people still buy/sell/use. Legality is not the problem or the issue here. The problem is...we don't even know the problem.

We don't know the WHY.
If he had a mental issue. Was it being treated? If treatment stopped, why? Why did he do it? What where his motives? He booby traps his whole apartment, it was ready to blow. He could have had a shootout with the cops, and he instead gave up. Then he TOLD them about the booby trapped apartment? And now there is word of a second person of interest who may be connected to, even supported his assault?

Look at the guy in Miami who ate the other guy's face off. Weapons or not, evil crazy people will do bad things. Banning weapons and controlling guns will not stop crimes. Criminals don't have any problem or trouble acquiring illegal things. Again...Criminals.

^ Yes, gun laws would prevent shooting sprees. This guy bought his heavy equipment all legally with a permit!!! Just look at what he carried with him. The 2nd amendment is about defending yourself, but you don't need the type of ammo he had. A simple handgun would do. Your reasoning doesn't ring true. You say: "people are still going to do this-and-that, so why should we ban it?" Well, that's like saying: "people are still going to produce kiddie-porn, so why should we outlaw it?"

Because all the outcry for stricter gun laws is missing the point exactly. Which I see you missed as well in the post. Look closer at the trigger man, not the weapons he chose. It doesn't take assault rifles to have a shooting spree. Two regular handguns...lots of ammo and magazines, holsters for convenience to hold loaded magazines, and you can take down just as many people just as easily. I'm not against outlawing large magazines. Those 100 round magazines have only one use...war zones. No use for protection or hunting. Same with fully automatic guns/rifles. However I am against outlawing semi-automatic guns of most any type.

Also it wasn't just guns, but he also had bombs ready to go off. From the sound of it, lots of chemicals. Also easy to get.

What gets me isn't the weaponry or the bombs....its his mother's reply when contacted about her son's involvement. "Yeah, its him." I'm glad she isn't in denial but she also didn't sound shocked. Makes me think he likely has had a long history of issues that may or may not have been addressed. And if addressed, done so improperly. Not blaming his family outright here. Again, details are scarce at the moment. But I do wonder how deep and long this issue has festered. And how many knew he had a few screws loose.

For every one whack job with a gun, there are plenty of perfectly normal people who don't act violently. Assault rifles are purchased by many because simply, they are fun to shoot for target practice. We have none. My fiance wants one but I'm not a fan. I prefer a traditional hunting rifle. But we do have a rifle which has no other use other than to take down animals as large as Cape Buffalo. We have none here in Florida, Robert just likes to shoot a big gun out at the range.

Also your comparison with kiddie porn? Kiddie porn ALWAYS has victims. ALWAYS. Guns do not.

If you hear what people describe the kind of person the shooter in this kind of tragedy (Columbine, Virgina Tech, Arizona Shootings in Arizona with Senator Gabbie Giffords)the one word that is consistent with the person, (usually young person under 26) that word be, loner. If we help kids not feel left out and parents don't look at mental health as some sorta omen or the logic of tough it which is illogical. A lot f these loners also say the were bullied or oddballs and parents and teachers just. Perhaps if they didn't feel left out or depressed and feel like if they talk about their sadness or frustrations they fear and feel it will fall of deaf ears. However the shootings do not make this right at all

also I agree with Goliath, this guy nor anybody should have this much ammo, except fighting in the army

Whoopi Goldberg pointed that out (I would have no idea).

As far as the gun control subject, I don't think banning guns would stop someone from illegally obtaining them. That said, I don't know what purpose civilians would have for legally purchasing assault rifles, other than slaughtering people.

That's it right there.

I still support the 2nd amendment but shit like this is ridiculous. Just because people like playing with guns (you know it's playing; watch people shooting guns on reality TV shows - it's one of the only real things on reality-TV - they can't get enough, for some of these people it's like sex) doesn't mean we should keep risking the lives of so many people in public so some people can collect guns like most people collect movies. It's practically political. Like a status symbol. Another way for people to show off, only now it's because they think they're doing some great American duty just by holding their hands up (and in this case, having something in them).

Siren wrote:Because all the outcry for stricter gun laws is missing the point exactly. Which I see you missed as well in the post. Look closer at the trigger man, not the weapons he chose. It doesn't take assault rifles to have a shooting spree.
But can you tell us that you have statistics that most public shootings with a bodycount like this are the result of the abuse of handguns? I think you'll find most crimes of this magnitude are committed with weapons no one needs to acquire in order to protect their home and family.

Of course, you also have something with the wacko factor. Mentality is always the first thing to make someone kill. Not their weapons. Although, once you have an unbalanced person, what do you think influences them to go for heavier firepower than your average handgun? Do you think this guy would have been able to make a production of his crime if he had just a handgun or two (and I say "just" as in this is what he would think)? Or that he would have committed it if he couldn't have made it into a show?

A crime like this is, in my view, facilitated by 2 things:

1) Media Glory. People like this just want attention. And you only have to shoot a baby to get national coverage. Hell, say a few controversial things while you're at it and you'll make it on Fox News too!

2) Glory of Guns. People are so desensitized to guns in everything, people like this are being culturally programmed to think "I'd be the first person to make these guys realize what it's really like to be shot, to see someone else shot." Not like he's just a flavor of the month but like he's going to incite a worldwide wake-up call.

Which is an ego trip some people get on because of this culture's absurd love of weapons. You have to admit it makes a difference. People are so quick to take guns beyond their intended means and make them into a party favor. They're listed by people as hobbies, used as an excuse for people to get together in groups, and as a symbol of national pride. And none of that is for any good reason under the sun.

We also can't forget to consider intelligence level and their innate capacity for psychotic behavior.
