Thor: The Dark World

Post by milojthatch »

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - By Odin's beard, get ready for "Thor 2."

Disney and Marvel Studios are moving ahead with a sequel to the hit superhero movie, setting a July 26, 2013 release date.

Kenneth Branagh will not return to direct, though he will serve as a producer. According to sources, Branagh had an option to direct the sequel and there were talks, but a 'mutual parting of ways' occurred.

No writers have been hired for the sequel although Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, is slated to reprise his role.

"Thor" made $437 million at the worldwide box office.

^^ That is very true. None of the other Avengers have that. Great news for "Thor" fans for sure!

Hopefully, Disney will do a good job. The first Thor movie was enjoyable (though, probably not my favorite comic book movie adaptation). Let's hope they keep the same cast or better.

It has been officially announced that Patty Jenkins will direct Thor 2, making her the first female director for Marvel Studios. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston and Natalie Portman will all return for the sequel. Disney also announced that Thor 2 will be moved from its July 26, 2013, release date to November 15, 2013.

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the next 'Thor' and revealed that the second installment in the epic will "take Thor literally to other worlds." "Thor 2 will primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster and how the new dynamic with his father is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds," said Feige.

Not much is yet known regarding the plot in the sequel to one of 2011’s most successful films, but the new director and the principal actors have been confirmed. Disney's/Marvel's Thor 2 starts filming summer 2012.

Though "The Avengers" continues to dominate the global box office, Marvel is not slowing down on preperations for its future endeavors as Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to star as a villain in Disney and Marvel's "Thor 2."

It is unknown at this time what part he will play, but what is known is that his Tom Hiddleston, who played Loki in the original, will still have a big part as an antagonist. Marvel and Disney declined to comment on the casting.

Looks Like Flynn Rider will be stepping in for Prince Charming :D

Zachary Levi for Thor 2
Dallas played Fandral in the first movie, but his commitments to the TV show Once Upon a Time mean that he can’t work the schedule to reprise the role in the follow-up. Interestingly, this has opened the door for Chuck star Zachary Levi, who is reportedly in negotiations to take over the part. The interesting part is that Levi was originally up for the role when the casting for the first film came around, but his own commitments to the TV show Chuck prevented him taking that interest further.

I have to admit, I usually try to avoid trailers for movies I want to see (although the trailers played before movies in theaters is one of my favorite parts of the experience. Go figure), so I've been trying to not watch this before I see Iron Man 3, when I'll have no choice but to see the thing.

One part of it has caught my eye, though. Thanks to the Tom Hiddleston fangirls on tumblr, I have seen this shot of Loki.
