Correct Aspect Ratios?

Post by albogango »

I'd like to know the correct aspect ratios/resolutions for the Disney canon 50 blu-rays. (In 720p) I realize the 16:9 features (Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, etc.) have a ratio of 1.78:1 and a resolution of 1280x720, but what about the more obscure ratios, like Fox and the Hound or the 4:3 early features? Blu-Ray.com has FATH's ratio at 1.66:1, but its resolution of 1200x720 comes out at 1.67:1 instead. I'm just curious to know the exact resolution of each of these blu-rays released thus far.

Here's what I got:

-OARs of all pre-63 Animated Disney movies are full screen (the exception is Sleeping Beauty which was made in 2.55:1 widescreen and Lady and The Tramp was made in wide and full screen. The latter possibly being Walt Disney's preferred ratio for the film)

-OAR's of post-63 to pre-90 animated Disney films were made in full screen and shown in theaters in a matted 1.75:1 widescreen (the exceptions being The Rescuers, The Black Cauldron, and The Rescuers Down Under)

-Post-90 animated Disney films were probably made in widescreen and cropped for full screen (some being 1.85:1 but later cropped and open-matted a bot to 1.66:1)

-Post 99-Present animated Disney films were made in widescreen and cropped/pan-and-scanned for full screen

-And a bonus, Pixar films were made in widescreen (though A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, and Cars received special formatted/open-matte full screen formats)

^ Mermaid, Basil and Oliver were all widescreen and came before Rescuers Down Under. Pretty sure Fox and the Hound was the last movie made in "full" screen and matted for theaters.

So what is the exact resolution these films would have in 720p?

I'm just curious about the Blu-Ray releases, not how they were originally animated.

These are the films I'm interested in:

2.56:1 (LATT) - 1280x500
2.55:1 (SB) - 1280x502
1.78:1 (BATB, LK, Pocahontas, Tarzan, PATF) - 1280x720
1.77:1 (HOTR) - ???
1.68:1 (TP) - ???
1.66:1 (Aristocats, FATH) - 1200x720?? (Wouldn't that be 1.67?)
1.35:1 (Pinocchio, Bambi) - ???
1.34:1 (SWATSD)- ???
1.33:1 (Dumbo) - ???
1.32:1 (AIW) - ???

These aspect ratios are straight from blu-ray.com
