Anyone else disappointed by the trailer? I thought it looked awful!!!

To be fair, I am a tough critic when it comes to trailers - I thought Tangled looked stupid, now it is one of my favorite Disney movies!

I actually liked the trailer, but there are a number on this thread who didn't.

I'm looking forward to the finished product. I have a feeling that this will be a movie I'll either love or one that I can take or leave (like Bolt).

i've been thinking about the "moral" of this story and interesting to note is that while it most likely will be a "you can choose your destiny" thing, it takes place in a world that openly needs villains which I think is an interesting departure from the norm.

^ Yeah it's an interesting moral/ethical question but I feel like a lot of that has been explored through the TRON series, taking a look at characters' purposes through an existentialist lens. (In TRON, is technology supposed to represent perfection? What is perfection, can it be achieved? etc).

Is the idea of evil/villainy absolute or relative, and can that be transcended? Certainly a thought-provoking issue but I feel TRON already addressed perhaps not the same question, but certainly through a startlingly similar vein.

The movie looks good. Hope it has that Disney magic like "The Princess and the Frog" and "Tangled" and not like "Meet the Robinson" (decent movie) or "Chicken Little" (no Disney magic at all).

For those who are already who are excited for this movie or just a Disney fans. On ebay some sellers are selling t-shirts from the E3 2012 Expo. Got mine last week for around $10.00 :D

Thanks for the reply. :)

Well I suppose seeing Bowser on the PS3 would have driven Nintendo nuts anyway. :P

Are film-based games good nowadays? The last time I was into gaming was about 10 years ago on the PlayStation (PSone) and I remember that many licensed games on that system (and others) were crap. They used to get terrible reviews. In fact I remember film-based games being stigmatised for the very fact that they were film-based - the general consensus being "If it's licensed, it'll suck!".

^That is still true with the exception of like one decent Spider-Man tie in. It's not great or even good, but the web slinging is fun.

There's a few gems out there, just like there's always been. Some of the key licensed games from that generation were GoldenEye 007 on the N64 and yes, Spider-Man for the PS1. Some great licensed games released since then:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic- A massively detailed RPG made by Bioware, the guys behind Mass Effect. It's set in the galaxy hundreds of years before the films, but the best part of the game is how intelligent the story and its interactions are. Whether you go good or evil, there's a lot of different paths to take.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay- Crappy flick, great game. It's an FPS with some sik exploration elements made by a development company too talented for their own project.

X-Men Legends- A side-scrolling RPG using the X-Men. It's fun to make the mutants level up and have them take down a couple of Sentinels. There's a sequel here you also get to play with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and a similar game involving the Marvel Universe that's made by the same guys, but I haven't played them yet. I'd still recommend those anyway. There's some other really interesting Marvel games out there.

Batman: Arkham Asylum/Arkham City- I think these are a tad overrated, but they're still pretty cool. These are detailed action games featuring Batman as you take on the Joker and other released members of his rogue gallery. Plus Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and other B:TAS alumni return, so you can't blame them too much. :D

Lego games- There's a lot of them, and it depends on your fancy. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Batman. They're simple action-platformer games that take you through chopped up, entertaining versions of the movies (except for the Batmans, which contain original stories from what I recall of the little I've played). They're great for your kids, and worth a playthrough of your own too.

As for direct movie tie-ins? Yeah, those typically aren't too good. Most of the time, they're made as quick cash-ins from weaker developers that rush things up to make sure you get as much of a similar experience as you can get.

Jim Hill posted an article talking about new Disney toys coming out and the 4th and 5th pictures show some of the Wreck-It Ralph toys. The only one that isn't in the Pixar Times toys link is the Fix-It Felix figure and it's nice to kind of get an idea of what the scale of the toys are.
