The reason I'm in love with the WDAS collection of animated films is because very few of them are masterpieces, if at all. A good bunch are great achievements, though, and I can find something of merit in even the most maligned of entries (e.g. Chicken Little).
I bet some of you think I'm bonkers.
You are bonkers... but not for liking some of the flawed Disney movies . I do agree with you in that the beauty of the Disney animated classics is that they are so varied that there will be some OK ones to great ones. I actually like Chicken Little now. I used to detest it at first, but then once I stripped myself of the annoying notion of what Disney should be, I saw a lot of charm in it. Yeah it is quite flawed as a movie, but it has some good stuff about it that DO scream "Disney".
It's possible that the less-than-favorable reviews could mean that this movie could be less of a crowd-pleaser, which could be a good thing. I've always found most of Pixar's films too generic, trying to please every single person in the audience. Maybe this one isn't about pleasing everyone, for once--which could be good or bad, I guess.
Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"
I think these guys NAILED what is Brave's problem. The problem does not lie in the movie itself, the problem lies in how IT WAS SOLD.
The guys said that coming in they were expecting lots of action, Merida being a badass princess, lots of emotional confrontation etc., but when they saw the movie they got something else instead. I do believe it since people were head over heels IN LOVE with the movie based on its trailers and advertisements, especially on Tumblr where they worshipped Merida like the best princess ever.
It seems that Disney and Pixar did a great job selling the movie that it wound up against them, and now people are coming in expecting one thing and then come out seeing another.
Seriously who are these people who love Merida on tumblr?
I think most people are just over reacting on here about it.
I don't really follow many Disney blogs but more images of Rapunzel and Ariel come up with tens of thousands of notes. And I haven't seen one for brave? So i'm just curious why people are saying Tumblr Users are obsessed with Merida when I don't actually think they are. (Sure there may be a few)
Also, Those Dudes gave a great review, Brave probably will be one of Pixar's less memorable films.

Oh trust me, they exist. Rapunzel and Ariel have tons of notes because they are already established characters whose popularity have been rising in the last few years. Merida is just getting started, but trust me when I say that there ARE insane Brave fandoms on Tumblr. There is one Brave tumblr page dedicated to confessions, that's where people admitted to claiming that Brave was their favorite movie ever without even seeing it, or saying that Merida was the best princess ever. There was also one Brave focused tumblr page where the owner would go insane posting images and then going gaga all over them. And when the first video of Merida's face character at the Disney parks popped up, the pages went nuts. I reblogged one video, and by the end of the day, it had over a hundred notes, and I am not even "tumblr famous" as they say.
So just because you didn't see it it doesn't mean that they are there.
Hmmm, I just had a thought... Maybe the reason people say Merida isn't that memorable is because... she doesn't sing and doesn't fall in love with a prince...
Hmmm... maybe I am sensing backwards mentality in people...
And before you eat me alive, I am KIDDING! Though, it does seem that the most memorable princesses are those that fit the role well enough. I mean, lord knows Aurora does nothing for half of the story, and people still love it, and that was because she had an amazing singing voice and her duet with Prince Philip was one of the best moments in the story.
Maybe Pixar needs to add a scene where Merida sings about her desires in a forest, and one of the young lords serenates her... XD

Lol. Kind of goes to show some people are just never satisfied.

I just looked this up and my gosh, it's insane 62 pages! Fan(atics) is right.

Something I didn't say in the little review I posted, but I think if they had kept The Bear and the Bow as the title over Brave, it would've made more sense. The Bear and the Bow practically sums up the entire plot perfectly, after viewing I am not too sure of what "Brave" has to do with the actual film.
Disney and Pixar's, "Brave" percentage on Rotten Tomatoes is up to 69%. Just checked it today. No offense, but it would probably be on par with DreamWorks Animation's, "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted."

It dropped to 65%. I'm not sure when it did this.
I still say that it would probably be on par with, "Madagascar 3,"...maybe.
I doubt it. I think people need to stop worrying about the RT percentage number, and actually read what the reviews are saying. The general consensus, even in the positive reviews is that this is not the groundbreaking or epic movie that has been advertised. Some people are ok with that, others feel cheated.
I'm disappointed that Pixar apparently hasn't put the usual effort they do into the storytelling of their first female lead feature. Of course I haven't formed a personal opinion yet, having not seen it. But now my expectations are lowered which is sad. Brave seemed to have the potential for greatness too, which makes it all the more tragic that critics think it's just "ok".
I bet it ends up in the high 70s, low 80s. It's now at 71%. I think people are reading into it.
I think the biggest issue that people are having is that isn't a movie that is for everyone, like most other Pixar films. It's a movie for those that enjoy fantasy and adventure - and fairy tales. Unfortunately in this day and age there are plenty of people that are turned away by that sort of thing.
I, for one, have gotten more and more excited for Brave because of the reviews, which are all stating things like "just another fairy tale" or "classic princess fodder" or "feels more like a Disney movie" - all of which is exactly what kind of movie I love.

I am feeling the same way. I love the Disney princess movies, I love fairy tale movies, I love fantasy films, and even with the middling reviews this looks like a good one. Like I said before, I think this might be a Cars case in which the film didn't get glowing reviews yet it gained a strong following that yielded a lot of great things. In other words, Brave could be to Princess films what Cars was to boy centric films: a massive hit with the target audience
I wonder if Wreck-It Ralph gets glowing reviews whether Disney will still push Brave for the Best Picture Oscar (for its more epic qualities), and let WIR sink. They've never really bothered much with the WDAS films whenever it comes to awards season.
Like pap and Swillie, I am looking forward to this film. I think I really must be a bit twisted movie-wise, but I find it much easier to root for an underdog type film (i.e. one that's not getting unanimous acclaim) than for one that's raised on a pedestal.
