Ducktales in Australia (R4) - Updated with pics/review

Post by Loomis »

My Ducktales was due to ship today, but I got an email informing me:

"Title has been pulled from release by distributor."

This doesn't really surprise me, given it was never on the BVHE site in the first place.

A shame though. This could mean bad things for the overseas releases too (unless they are already out).

They are already advertising the dvd on the United Kingdom site and I got word from Buena Vista here that the dvd will not receive much attention anyway, they will just release it without any information given to the press.

So why bother to release it? They should at least do a semi-decent press release and send it out.

I dunno. BVHEUK - run by muppets.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Well the press agency here wasn't asked to do this, so they only told me what they know... Normally they announce every dvd with a press release and ads on TV and others. Now Buena Vista said they don't need any of that and would like to just release it ;) Not sure how people will know that the dvd is out then, but hey :P

It is all part of their secret plan to not sell ANYTHING. That's my theory, anyways.

BVHE are doing that constantly here - releasing DVDs on the market at certain locations ('Fables' and 'Everybody Loves...', exclusive at K-Mart and Target repsectively), and not actually mentioning this to anyone. I literally stumbled across the 'Everybody Loves...' titles on an ill-placed cardboard stand (facing the opposite direction to customers I might add) in a K-Mart.

It seems retailers are the only ones who were told about Ducktales here, but they have since cancelled their orders. It will be interesting to see if other retailers keep their listings (it is still on EzyDVD, for example).

Its out here in Denmark, I'm not sure if any danish retailers ship to other countries, but perhaps u could make some sort of agreement with a nice Dane...

I myself have bought a few DVDs from Australia before, and region 2 and 4 is basically the same thing. Both pal.
Hope this helps... I could do some futher research if U want me to...

Found this...

Ok, a fellow DVDBits writer told me they contacted BVHE and were told
"This is an account specific title, so we don't have any copies available" (to paraphrase).

He was baffled, as was I for a time.
But we assume that means it is only going to be available in certain shops (K-Mart & Target are likely).

EzyDVD have now also removed their listing.

Duck Tales Treasure

Post by Disney Guru »

I am also very sad about this news. I have always loved Duck Tales they were always so sweet and pure. Who can't love Uncle Scrooge, Hewey, Duey, and Louey. What a great little show they should release the whole show on Disney DVD. And release the Ducktales Movie on DVD to.

I wouldn't be too upset - this is just the Australian release. And it seems it is coming out, just not as a general release DVD.

As far as I know, the UK and European releases are still going ahead with a wider release. Amazon UK is selling Ducktales, for example. And as mikovich said, there is a Danish copy available...

Still, it is a shame this isn't getting a broad release in Australia, as there will be people who simply wont be able to get it.

I bought the Brazilian edition of the movie this past Saturday. Even though it is virtually extrasless, it was great watching the movie in so good shape. The picture quality was much better than I had antecipated, and the Dolby Surround track, though no DD5.1, suits the film (at least we can hear the catchy theme song with good quality).

A pity the only extra is a boring game (that I didn't even have the patience to go through) I'm sure including an episode from the series would cost much less.

By the way, it has passed to my mind... Could Disney be delaying this release in the US because of the stereotyped Arabian character, Dijon?

I have confirmation from a fellow DVDBIts writer that Ducktales IS available in Target Stores across Australia NOW, and...

... it is in 1.66:1 (16x9) widescreen.

Again, only a crappy game to accompany it, but it DOES exist. I should pick one up on Saturday.

Loomis, have you already received your "Extreme Sports Fun" DVD? If so, could you give us a quick review?

Ah yes - meant to update.

It turns out that the retailer sent out a "DVD has shipped" e-mail prematurely, so in fact the DVD will probably not arrive until sometime early in August (when it was MEANT to come out).

Sorry for the confusion, but rest assured it will be reviewed when it comes in.

Also, for interest sake, here is the cover with the "Exclusive to Target" sticker on it.

Not sure why you'd want to look at it, but it is exclusive to Target stores in Australia.[/img]
