The screenshots Polizzi posted look decent. Can't help but think that the Disney version will blow this away though.
On a related note, does anyone know of a DVD of the 1959 Russian Snow Queen animated film taken from a good-looking print? I want to see that film, but I don't want to purchase a mediocre DVD. Also, I'd like to see the Russian version, with English subtitles, rather than the English dub.

This news was posted last Thursday, February 9, 2012.The Snow Queen was first presented for international buyers at the American Film Market in November 2011. Olga Sinelshchikova, Business Development Director, explains, “At the AFM, we received very positive feedback from buyers from over 20 territories, including USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, South Korea and China, among others. Due to this fact, we decided to produce a version for international distribution, so this past January we successfully completed the English dubbing with Los Angeles-based production company Verité Films. The dubbing was recorded at Salami Studios with established, veteran animation actors – Cindy Robinson, Doug Erholtz, Kirk Thornton and Wendy Lee – who have more than 200 animated projects in their portfolio. The Snow Queen is now more than ever an international project. We are convinced that this kind of story as well as the stereoscopic 3D technologies have high commercial potential and will attract an extensive audience not only in Russia but worldwide. So we expect to close first deals for this project at the EFM.”

Isn't the synopsis from Disney's, "Frozen (The Snow Queen)," kind of similar to the synopsis from Disney and Pixar's, "Brave," who Merida has to stop the curse? Of course, Merida causes the curse by changing her fate to get the suitors off her back, and earn her freedom.A prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter in Frozen, so Anna (voice of Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen (voice of Menzel) and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

Amazon. Also, there's a free video and download of it. Here it is.Jules wrote:Polizzi, do you perchance know of a good DVD release for the original 1959 hand-drawn Russian Snow Queen film? I'd certainly be interested in owning that, as well as the newer Russian version and the upcoming Disney adaptation on home video.

Yeah, I think it was. I think We had it on VHS when I was little(in a dub, obviously), but it wasnt my favorite so I dont remember more than snippets.Jules wrote:Wizart have a tough job. Their version is already facing comparison with the earlier hand-drawn Russian adaptation of The Snow Queen. I've seen some clips of the older film online, and it looks good!
