This map shows off some of the most important people who do that for me.

And if you're willing, I dare you to figure out who everyone in here is.
If you want to make your own, here's the template. Go for it!

Sounds cool, but deep connection for...what?Super Aurora wrote:3. Ralph McQuarrie- Lucas may been a dickhole now but if there one thing I'd give him huge credit for , is his choice and collaboration with this man, Ralph McQuarrie. Being a big Sci-fi person, you can imagine how much of an influence this guy is. Without him you wouldn't have Star Wars. It was his work that persuade the Hollywood executives to consider Lucas to making this film. His work is also amazing in the ideas and concepts his imagination can come up with for a sci-fi world. I love the sci-fi architecture he created for Cloud City, Coruscant, and Jabba's palace. The colors he use influences me too the way he has these colors give deep connection for.
I think his work is pretty cool and amazing, but I don't know if you heard me on the phone when I said I hate his faces he draws. Actually a few of the guys you like, just can't seem to do faces well. I have to say...maybe even in Berserk the faces aren't so good. A lot of them look creepy or ugly to me, but most especially Akira's.Super Aurora wrote:19. Katsuhiro Otomo- Man who created Akira. Most people are more familiar with the movie rather than the manga. read the manga. Has some awesome mind blowing artwork, designs and story. He's another legend I love and I have his Akira artbook too.

I love that music video. It makes me laugh so hard. I love Danny Elfman.Lazario wrote:<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/jItz-uNjoZA" frameborder="0"></iframe>Super Aurora wrote:His girls. LOL
Thanks. Next time you come over I'll show some of the art books I have. I have many of them home. I will hopefully get some of Yeagle's for my B-Day.Disney Duster wrote:Wooooow...that's some influence map Chris heh heh. But it's awesome. Yea, a lot of those guys are really amazing. I looked up some of the guys' art you talked about. All really cool and great.
Oops i forgot to finish the sentence LOL. I meant that they give off a deep connection, at least for me, to the scenery and the environment. It's kinda hard to describe and explain. You have to look and admire his work to see it.Disney Duster wrote:Sounds cool, but deep connection for...what?Super Aurora wrote:3. I can see why you don't like the faces in Akira but he goes for more realistic approach and to me, they match up perfect blend of comic look and realism on Asian faces. Usually Asian faces are harder to transits to cartoon format. That's why you always hear people say "Anime characters don't look Asian blah blah". As for Berserk, Muira going more realistic look (debatable on some of the loli girls he drew but whatever on that) That's why you don't see lovely or pretty bishie and such(except for Griffith) So I'm going have to disagree with you on that. Character's who's face look creepy or ugly doesn't mean the faces they draw suck. It show the artist have a much much more wider range of variety of characters and face portrayal rather than "same face syndrome" some artist does. I can see why you dislike the faces on Akira, but to me it doesn't bother me and in a way has a nice unique iconic appearance to it. It also works nice in a post apocalyptic 80's sci-fi setting. Berserk I can't see at all why you say that and which other artist's faces bother you? Some of the work I like that I list are because of the characters and their appearances. It's unique and give me expansion of influences to draw from.Disney Duster wrote:I think his work is pretty cool and amazing, but I don't know if you heard me on the phone when I said I hate his faces he draws. So that's what Steve's boss was singing on American Dad when he was dating Steve's daughter. Haha. That video looked like it was designed by Tim Burton. Or maybe it was an 80's thing.Super Aurora wrote:I love that music video.
Yay! I hope so for you too.Super Aurora wrote:Thanks. Next time you come over I'll show some of the art books I have. I have many of them home. I will hopefully get some of Yeagle's for my B-Day.
I totally get and see that. I think. Yea.Super Aurora wrote:I meant that they give off a deep connection, at least for me, to the scenery and the environment. It's kinda hard to describe and explain. You have to look and admire his work to see it.

Meh doesn't bother me. I could do without seeing Bishie all the fucking time.Disney Duster wrote:Akira has some pretty nasty faces in all the characters in the movie.
Disagree.Disney Duster wrote:I think in general in a lot of old manga and anime have really bad and ugly faces.
Not always. I'd argue that nowadays manga have gotten pretty generic and boring(especially in SJ when compared to SJ of the 80's). This is coming from someone who love and know a lot about Japanese manga and it's history.Disney Duster wrote:I can't believe it's just the style because today's anime has pretty much all gotten better at faces.
Oh I didn't know he did the animated series, wow. But I did know he did music for a loooot of Tim Burton films so I'm just wondering if Tim helped him design that video or they just have similar taste even in visuals or something.Super Aurora wrote:Tim Burton is very good friend with Danny Elfman. Danny the one who did the music for Batman and Batman Return (as well as the opening to the animated series).
Well then I guess we agree to disagree, and I can see how you disagree and how they aren't that bad, but I personally think they are and that they got way better. If we looked at the books together, and drew together, maybe that would help, though I haven't drawn seriously in forever so it would probably suck and it would not help my case haha.Super Aurora wrote:Disagree.Disney Duster wrote:I think in general in a lot of old manga and anime have really bad and ugly faces. Not always.
