Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) Discussion

Post by DisneyJedi »

I don't know if a thread for this movie, but in case there isn't, I'm making one now.

Basically, I managed to watch the movie with my brother a few nights ago and I thought it was pretty good for a thriller film, something that you wouldn't normally expect Disney to do. Of course, my brother thought it was weird.

At one point during the movie, we had this exchange of words:

Me: You know, this is pretty surprising of Disney to do a movie like this.
My brother: (surprised to realize it IS a Disney movie) This is a Disney movie?! I call shenanigans! :x

Got this around Halloween along with 'Watchers in the Woods', and while 'Watcher' was the more mature and interesting horror film (save that ending, and they lack of information on 'that night'), 'Wicked' had an interesting premise, but it seemed a bit flat at ends, and the motivations between the adult's secret desires weren't quite clear. Despite being more 'Disney' in flavor and style, 'Wicked' is much more violent. That fake decapitation surprised me considering how jittery the studio was about objectionable content.

I know. How can this movie get off with a PG rating and contain a scene with a fake decapitation when The Black Cauldron was almost rated R and had to have scenes cut?
