That is an illustration for a random "Snow Queen" storybook. It has nothing to do with Disney.disneyprincess11 wrote:Oh, and I found this on Tumblr under Disney's Frozen

Sweet! Great to hear that it will be a musical and that Kristen Bell is doing the voice. While her filmography is not that great, she does do an awesome job in Assassin's Creed, where she does the voice of Lucy Stillman.
And hopefully Alan Menken does do the music for it. I don't mind Glen Slater, I actually like him, but he lack the sophistication in his lyrics like Stephen Schwartz and the creative fun playful lyrics of Howard Ashman.

As much as I love Alan Menken's work, does he need to write the songs to every Disney musical? Are Disney fans so afraid of variety, that they don't want another composer to have a shot? I'm sure there are plenty of other talented song-writers who would do an excellent job at writing the songs for a Disney flick.

While I am glad Menken is working on this, I agree. Not that he's super old or anything, but Disney really needs to find the next generation of songwriting teams.estefan wrote:As much as I love Alan Menken's work, does he need to write the songs to every Disney musical? But for now, I am happy to hear that Menken is on this. I really hope they turn to someone other than Glenn Slater. I think the songs in Tangled could have been great, but were pulled down by the lyrics. I would love love love to see Stephen Schwartz do them this time around.

I hope we get Schwartz, too. Pocahontas and Hunchback have some of the best songs from any DAC, in my opinion. I haven't really liked anything the Menken/Slater team have made. I didn't like any of the new TLM songs and Tangled's songs were only so-so (then again, I'm not the biggest fan of the movie).SWillie! wrote:But for now, I am happy to hear that Menken is on this. I wouldn't mind other composers working for Disney, but since Menken has been involved in the project since it was a stage production on the Tokyo Disney Sea park, it would have been a little of a let down if he wasn't invited to participate in the movie too.estefan wrote:As much as I love Alan Menken's work, does he need to write the songs to every Disney musical? I really like Tangled, but I agree that the songs are among the weaker of Disney's music catalogue, with the exception of "Mother Knows Best", none of them is particularly memorable.TheSequelOfDisney wrote: I hope we get Schwartz, too. And I second the opinion that Stephen Schwartz collaborating with Alan Menken is awesome, and it would awesome if they could collaborate again.
I know Glenn Slater is not compared to Howard Ashman and Stephen Schwartz, but seriously, he and Alan Menken won a Grammy for Best Song I See the Light not too long ago, and now you keep criticizing him? Geez! Look I'm trying respect everybody's opinions, but with all due respect I think I See the Light was an awesome. Now that would be tempting that Stephen Schwartz will write the lyrics. That would be great. But there's one problem, in case you guys didn't notice, but I heard he's busy writing songs for an upcoming Broadway musical about Houdini.
Note: I think Danny Elfman quit writing songs for Houdini.

to me "I see the light" is "it" enough.SWillie! wrote:I love I See the Light too, but needed to be the "it" song of the film - the "Part of Your World", the "Beauty and the Beast", the "A Whole New World", the "Circle of Life"... and it just isn't on that level. It's great during the film, but it's not nearly as memorable as it could be.

Would you rank it on the same level as the others I mentioned?tu wrote:to me "I see the light" is "it" enough.SWillie! wrote:I love I See the Light too, but needed to be the "it" song of the film - the "Part of Your World", the "Beauty and the Beast", the "A Whole New World", the "Circle of Life"... and it just isn't on that level. "I See the Light" is a love song and if you're going to compare it, it should be to other love songs. Although I think it's a good song, I don't think it's as memorable as other Menken love songs such as "Kiss the Girl", "Beauty & the Beast", "A Whole New World", "If I Never Knew You", "I Won't Say (I'm in Love)". It's more in the category of "So Close" from Enchanted. It's a beautiful, sweet ballad but it feels a bit derivative and familiar. The melody does not feel as unique. You know what I mean?
I second that, although kiss the girl is not a favorite of mine, i find it to be Menken's weakest song yet. It is strange to me that so many people here dislike Glen's work, I loved " Will the sun ever shine again" in Home on the Range, now the movie itself I find very forgettable...Sotiris wrote:"I See the Light" is a love song and if you're going to compare it, it should be to other love songs. Disney have also leaked which songs they'll be using in the teaser trailers! Only they know how to market a movie!

Agreed! But perhaps over time, there will be a new type of Sherman Brothers to usher in a new Era of Disney- MagicSotiris wrote:Me too. It's a really good song. You see, that's my problem with Rapunzel's lineup of songs, I feel like I've heard it all before. I don't know where but I'm sure if I did a little research, I'd find the original songs that the melodies (maybe in some other form) came from.Sotiris wrote:"I See the Light" is a love song and if you're going to compare it, it should be to other love songs. Well, I wouldn't say that you can use it being derivative or not sounding unique as a criticism. Menken's work for some of Beauty and the Beast's themse sounds like that French "Aquarium" song I heard, "Kiss the Girl" sounds a lot like this one somg about sailing away that plays at my work, really any song can sound kind of like another song. I wish the claim that something sounds unoriginal would stop. I just hate everyone comparing things to other things. It takes away from the way everything is at least slightly original somehow. I know it's human nature but maybe if we didn't practice it so much and were more against it it wouldn't be so learned to do.Sotiris wrote:"I See the Light" is a love song and if you're going to compare it, it should be to other love songs. Does anyone wonder how much of the Snow Queen will Disney change?I also think these recent movies will probably make this era of Disney stand out from its Renissance years.I think this era needs to be its own and not a shadow.I think we might have throwbacks to the years of the Renissance but I think during these years with the new direction Disney will be going in they will be finding their own mark and make more movies that will delight children this decade.
