AHHHHHHHHHHHH! THANKS FOR POSTING! LOVE IT!Lnds500 wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8cLhckSAAw

Now that you mentioned it... Brave DOES have a Ghibli feel to it. The main character being this strong willed woman that is independent and fighting against her culture, fighting for freedom and nature, no romantic interest and lots of colorful characters around her.
Merida could be Pixar's Nausicaa and Mononoke!

There is a romantic interest in pretty much all Ghibli movies though. It just tends to be more low-key.pap64 wrote:Now that you mentioned it... Brave DOES have a Ghibli feel to it. Oh I know. Just stating that Merida seems to be more of a Ghibli character with a dash of Pixar and Disney mentality thrown in.qindarka wrote:There is a romantic interest in pretty much all Ghibli movies though. Miyazaki is a big influence on the Pixar company so it should be expected that hey would finally take some traits from his movies.I still wonder if they would ever allow Miyazaki to ever make a Pixar movie.Preferably one that is based on Japanese culture.
I can tell that Pixar did watch Princess Monoke because of the vibes I feel from the movie.

That would be awesome to see. However, Miyazaki is VERY anti-capitalism and doesn't want to fully "sell out", and Disney/Pixar LOVES to sell their movies to the extreme. Plus as great as his stories may be he seems like the type of director that is impossible to work with. So that would be impossible.jazzflower92 wrote:Miyazaki is a big influence on the Pixar company so it should be expected that hey would finally take some traits from his movies.I still wonder if they would ever allow Miyazaki to ever make a Pixar movie.Preferably one that is based on Japanese culture.![]()

Speaking of the man,I think he should be accepting his award for Spirited Away since the Iraq War is over so he doesn't have to protest it anymore. If I remember he was against having the academy award on the account that America was in Iraq. And lets not talk about Iraq unless we get into an ugly flame war.pap64 wrote:That would be awesome to see. However,I think they would at least work on a short with Miyazaki because shorts don't often get merchandising except for when they are sold on DVD and stuff.
Agreed on the short idea. Miyazaki (and Ghibli in general) are really good at telling two types of stories:jazzflower92 wrote:Speaking of the man,I think he should be accepting his award for Spirited Away since the Iraq War is over so he doesn't have to protest it anymore. If I remember he was against having the academy award on the account that America was in Iraq. And lets not talk about Iraq unless we get into an ugly flame war.pap64 wrote: That would be awesome to see. - Sweet, magical slice of life stories
- Heavy, politically driven dramas
Pixar's shorts usually are the magical and sweet type, and if Ponyo taught us anything is that Ghibli LOVES the whimsical. A Pixar short of that nature would be great to see.
No sarcasm, I didn't realize they changed the name there. According to Cartoon Brew's post the title could also translate to Merida and The Forest of Fear. I kinda like that better.pap64 wrote:Unless that was sarcasm, the Japanese title for Brave is "Merida and the Frightening Forest", which explains the long title.
Ah OK. I just thought you were joking about the Japanese name for Brave had a lot of lettersKyle wrote:No sarcasm, I didn't realize they changed the name there. Yeah. It reminds me of Tarzan too. In particular, a poster of Tarzan. Let me check if I can find it.Tristy wrote:Is it me or is anyone else getting a slight Tarzan vibe from this poster?
