Friday the 13th Box - Full Specs Announced

Post by Loomis »

HorrorDVDs.com has posted the specs for the full Friday the 13th box set. A little disappointing (especially given what Anchor Bay are doing for Dawn of the Dead). Anyhoo, I know there are heaps of horror fans here, so here is the full deal.

I have also posted cover art here.
Paramount has issued a press release for their Friday the 13th DVD collection, entitled "From Crystal Lake to Manhattan". The 5-disc box set (2 films per disc, as well as a separate bonus disc) will retail for $60.00. The release date is set for August 5th. All the films will contain the same transfers as the previous discs, but there is a batch of new supplements that have been added. Here is a list of supplements:

* Cast commentary on FRIDAY THE 13th - PART 3 by author Peter Bracke and actors Larry Zerner, Paul Kratka, Dana Kimmell and Richard Brooker
* Commentary on FRIDAY THE 13th – PART VI: JASON LIVES by director Tom McLouglin
* Commentary on FRIDAY THE 13th – PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD by actor Kane Hodder and director John Carl Buechler
* Commentary on FRIDAY THE 13th – PART VIII: JASON TAKES MANHATTAN by director Rob Hedden
* A featurette “Tales From the Cutting Room,” in which exclusive deleted scenes and footage is revealed for the first time.
* An 8-part featurette “The Friday The 13th Chronicles,” which looks at the legacy of the films throughout their history, featuring cast and crew commenting on each film and why they appeal to audiences. Includes Adrienne King, Amy Steel, Corey Feldman, Kane Hodder, Lar Park Lincoln, Betsy Palmer, Tom Savini and directors Sean Cunningham, Tom McLoughlin, Rob Heddon, Joseph Zito and John Carl Buechler.
* A 3-part featurette “Secrets Galore Behind The Gore,” which looks at the work of master make-up effects designer Tom Savini in Part 1 and Part IV and John Carl Buechler in Part VII. Includes rare and never-before-seen footage, drawings and stills illustrating the make-up techniques used to create Jason and achieve elaborate death scenes.
* A featurette “Crystal Lake Victims Tell All!,” in which cast and crew from various films share amusing anecdotes. Includes Corey Feldman, Larry Zerner, Adrienne King, Amy Steel, Lar Park Lincoln and directors.
* A featurette “Friday Artifacts and Collectibles,” which looks at props and collectables from the films.
* The theatrical trailers from all 8 movies except Part VI, which is represented by the teaser trailer.

Hmm, not quite the 2 discs per director-cut-movie-super-special-edition-set I was expecting... 2 movies per disc? Eh, I think my money will be better spent elsewhere. :( Oh well.

What the heck? Paramount can't even get all the proper trailers together for their "Ultimate" collection?

Pass.

word, they couldnt even record a commentary track for the first film... what the hell?

I quiver at the concept of 2-feature length films from exisitng transfers slopped together w/ commentary tracks per disc. Paramount really went all out eh?

-agreed

this sounds like something Disney would do to a set of catalog titles. Fans of these films have been BEGGING Paramount for special "unrated" editions of each of these films in which true gore can be seen. I'm glad that Paramount is at least giving some more effort than the previously released barebones editions available, however this is a far cry from what the fans of these films are looking for. Still, the Nightmare on Elm Street boxed set only had the films and then the bonus disc, so maybe this bonus disc will be as packed as the Nightmare one. The jury is still out on me.....but I'm thinking that I'm also going to pass.

by the way, i'm still working on watching the "horror film" series. i finished the evil dead series.......LOVED ARMY OF DARKNESS!!!

i'm still trying to find all of the children of the corn movies. are they really worth looking for? leprechaun 4 (in space) totally sucked @*%!

The stranger thing is that R4 (Australia) and R2 (UK) have a disc released through Warner Bros (who own the rights here) of the first Friday the 13th with a commentary AND a short doco called 'Return to Crystal Lake: The Making of...'.

Obviously Paramount couldn't use that track, but the fact they couldn't be bothered recording a new one is shameful.

It will be nice to have them all together in one spot, but one can't help but feeling disappointed.

Well, Paramout could use the existing commentary. Lots of discs in the UK (and Australia I would bet) are distributed by different distributors than in the US, but have the supplements retained. EIV who do the Lord of the Rings Movies over here (and Roadshow I guess in Australia) are just one example.

It's just a case of working out a licencing agreement. I'm sure Warner would love to get some of the money back on their recording. Of cours it looks like Paramount are too cheap to even do this.

The commentary is actually comments from the documentary for the most part, so it's a bit superficial on the PAL discs, but it would be an excellent addition for the documentary-less R1 so-called "ultimate" set.
